  • Who was Johnny Powers? Never heard of him and I've lived through the ENTIRE rock'n'roll era. By the way, Powers doesn't sound bad at all--sort of like a pre-Elvis. But maybe it's just that famous "Sun sound?" And the second song in this video sounds like Elvis's "Too Much." Did Powers precede or succeed Elvis?

  • He recorded between 57 and 59. So maybe this promo record is from 56 or so. Elvis started recording in 53, so actually Powers maybe hadn't got a very big career boost because Elvis had done songs like his before already.

  • This one is from '59.

Johnny Powers was/is from Detroit and he's still actively performing. "Honey Let's Go (To A Rock And Roll Show)"/"Your Love" came out in '57 (Fortune 199); followed by his regional hit "Long Blond Hair, Rose Red Lips" (b/w "Rock Rock") on the Fox label in 1958. This Sun single followed. Powers is the only artist to record for three legendary labels: Fortune, Sun, and Motown.

  • Thanks, interesting info!

  • He was famous for the song Long Blonde hair

    Mikey xx

  • Great sound!

  • This audio is from my Johnny Powers Promo Sun Record. I bought it in Cleveland, OH for only 10 dollars.

The songs are 'With your love, With your kiss' and 'Be mine, All mine'.
