  • Yes what you hear is a tune in E major (C#, D#, F# and G#) but on the video he is playing only the white keys which corresponds to A minor or C major.

  • I LOVE this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The beggining reminds me of Beethoven's moonlight Sonata.

  • This is so beautiful :) ♥

  • Ah..! Do forgive me..♥

  • COME ON VICTORIA! Couldn't you have waited just 17 more seconds, and let beautiful victor finish!

  • Victor and Victoria are a perfect match. Both of them are shy, sweet, sensitive, and just want to get away from a society full of close-minded people. Poor Victoria's been trapped up all her life by neglective parents and Victor's never been appreciated for anything he's ever done in his life. I'm glad they ended up with each other at the end <3

  • i luv Victor's solo

  • I'm not a pianist. But hey, other than the arpeggios, they clearly tranpose the piano by a semitone the very moment the song starts. My guess is that Danny oviously already had the song done the moment they started shooting the scene, but the arpeggio was placed after the main shooting, hence the unnoticed misspitching.

  • " do forgive me !" it's sooo cute

  • Omg I love this song every time I hear it I want to cry

  • OMG JOHNNY DEPP! I LOVE HIM! I WATCHED THT I OWNE IT AND EDWARD SCISSORHANDS CLICK TO REPLAY -> 0:00

  • .... Anyone else see the similarity between this and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata..? o.O i mean i tried to play them at the same time, and it didn't come out EXACTLY alike. but it's pretty damn close lol

  • Is this really Johnny Depp playing?

  • @meginmd no of couse not

  • @meginmd No, it's Danny Elfman.

  • i can hear a little chopin - funeral march. But very good.

  • @dankabal :) and 4 me it's Piano Sonata No.14 in C sharp minor

  • oh do forgive me

  • i like how the song echos through the house

  • crossing corpse bride with nightmare before christmas sally might have some compitition for jack. emily is much more beautiful and seems more independent. she doesnt just hope someone will notice how she feels

  • lovelt

  • I just read that there is going to be a box set of all of the music that Danny Elfman has written for Tim Burton films. Yay!

  • He plays the piano,he's automaticly amazing ^^

  • In my opinion, VictorxEmily 3eva! :D

  • To the 5 jerks who rated this down, RETURN TO YOUR JUSTIN BIEBER SONGS AND STAY THERE. Thank you.

  • @Flash3713 totally agreee

  • Learning to play this song was very fun :) Danny Elfman is an amazing composer.

  • he plays the wrong notes in the very beginning for it to sound like it did

  • @Dayen211 You are correct. The first note played with the right hand (after the eerie intro with the higher keys), is a G#. However, he is shown playing a white key. He occasionally hits the wrong keys throughout the entire song :) But who cares, it's just a cartoon. I think the animators did a great job for this scene.

  • This scene really stands out for me, especially the shot of victor sitting down to play. I don't know why, but it's just so hauntingly beautiful.

  • this sounds so much like "moon light sonata"

  • where can you buy the soundtrack to this movie? such beautiful music.

  • Danny Elfman is a genius. Tim Burton and him make a perfect team =)

    I love this song.

  • Danny Elfman<3

  • the name of the song is in fact victor solo

    by danny elfman

  • I find it interesting how the underworld is colorful and the people are as alive as ever, while the regular world where the living stroll is really boring and colorless

  • If I remember correctly that was Tim Burton's idea, the living are stuck to their ways, their rules of society and how one must behave whereas the dead are free to 'live' as they choose with no fear of what people think

  • humm.

    lol.

  • The Name of this song?

  • @BlazzingSaber

It's just called "Victor's Piano Solo" for lack of better name (besides, any other name would probably be overdone, particularly for the beautiful simplicity of the piece.)

  • I love this song..

If only I knew the name of it lol..

  • ummmmmmmmmmm Victor's Piano Solo.

  • What's the name of this song ?

  • one of my late daughter's favourite films, R.I.P Bekiboo x 10.09.95 - 20.06.08 x

  • I love this song and the scene!

  • Yeah, it sounds like a Major Chord. The piano is off key xD.

  • Yes, very cool solo.

As for the question of the opening arpeggio:

This is one of my favorite "easter eggs" in the movie. Visibly, you see Victor playing a C diminished arpeggio - all minor thirds, very eerie and Victorian sounding. What you hear, instead, is a major chord.

This was definitely done on purpose. It's consistent with the style of the entire film: Visibly dark, depressed, and "dead". The lighter side of the film comes out in the character, conversation, and audio.

  • amazing, thanks so much for that comment, i'd have never known~!!!

  • @Wooskiee I'm glad another fellow piano player noticed that :)

  • @Wooskiee the arpeggio still bothers me. even if it is as you say, done on purpose, at least match the notes to their corresponding minors. the music is clearly faster than he is fingering and it doesnt match. if theyre going to do that then they should make him finger a diminished third every time a major third is played or even make it a relative minor.

    great song nonetheless

  • @luxon4 It's still one visual note for one audible note. There are four notes to make a full octave in the major arpeggio you hear (a major third, minor third, and a fourth), but it takes five notes to make an octave if you are doing a diminished seventh (four minor thirds). That means there is no way to "match it up" the way you suggest. But that indeed would be cool if it could work out - would be even subtler than it already is!

Very neat little easter egg. I love it!

  • the most amazingly lovely song ever!!!!!

  • this is my fav song to play on the piano! its so pretty!

  • i have the sheet music to this

  • the composer is Danny Elfman.. The name is the same than the title... Victor's piano solo

  • Love it...

  • I lov the COrpse Bride Main Theme song...

  • I like how the claymation figure is playing a c diminished arpeggio at the beginning, but the audio is a c major chord. I wonder if that was done on purpose.

  • beautiful

  • i want to learn this. anyone know where to get the music for it?

  • when you find out where to get it, can you tell me too? I want to learn this piece too.

  • aw victor is so shy :)

  • one word:: awesome!

  • this song like really REALLY reminds me of moonlight sonata. mostly at the beginning but still

  • Ah....this song gives me chills! I love this song!

  • beautiful... so beautiful

  • whats the name of the song?

im pretty sure its like haunting pionget or some thing?

  • Actually, it's just Victor's Solo. =)

  • It's just listed as "Victor's Piano Solo". I've also heard it referred to as "Hall of the Pumpkin King" (a nightmare before christmas reference) but I'm not sure if that is an official name however

  • My mistake, i heard the duet was called Pumpkin king, this is just Piano solo

  • this is my favorite song in this whole movie. i know a sustitute teacher i had play this!!!!!!! no lie!!!!!!!!

  • m00nlit3l0ve is right... This song is largely inspirated by Beethoven's Moonlight

  • dangg victor sure is good.

  • Excellent quality.

  • Victor's theme^^

  • this makes me sad but also calm

  • So Beautiful!

  • God...Danny gives me chills and always knows how to hit the spot in music/scores

  • Yeah He's so good!! Nightmare B C!!! is genius!! He's the singing voice for Jack Skelington and it blows my mind!!!!!

  • I love this song so much!

  • this song is acutally beetoven's moonlight solo except different keys this is for the people who are wondering what this song is called

  • Hmm, noooo... Actually this song was written by Danny Elfman..might sound like Moonlight for you, bit it isnt.. Sor

    ry :|

  • What song is that? The actual piano song that is?

  • I don't know what the song is called, but when u want to buy (read download) the song it will most likely be named "Victor's Piano Solo" and it's on the "Corpse Bride OST"

  • I think it was actually written for the film. Beautiful no?

  • The first thing Danny Elfman wrote for the score, actually. After getting this done, it was a simple matter of incorporating this as Victor's theme for the rest of the movie.

  • I love when He does that Piano Solo Its so pretty

  • Anyone else see that he messes up the arpeggio at the beginning? Sorry, intrinsic piano player obsessiveness... I love this song so much...

  • I knoticed but didn't care

  • I'm half way there to learning the whole song, but what do you mean he messes up the arpeggio on purpose, what does that mean?

  • I think they meant that the notes that are shown being played are not what is actually heard--I grabbed my tuner and checked, and at the very beginning, the audio and the actual played notes are different. =]

  • I just noticed that the piano on there doesn't have any black keys... 0.o

  • lol, ur sure u watched the vid? :P watch again, the piano does have black keys! ^_~

  • The black keys just blend in with the actualy body of the piano.. :)

  • @emz33 Lol I just saw your message and I know its from 3 years ago but if you pause at 1:23 you can see the black keys.

  • @emz33 ...
