I was looking at some of my special features on my Star Trek disks and for this epsiode they talked about how Gary could hardly see how of those eye contacts they gave him for that look.

That's why he has he head titled up constantly. It gave it a good twist actually. It made him seem more cynical. With more of a God Complex. It fit this scene well.

according to rumour and speculation gary mitchell is one of the names mentioned as a possible villiain in the next star trek film along with trelain harry mudd the telosians and the horta

They did an incredible job demonstrating Mitchell's god abilities, especially his super-human strength. It would be one thing for him to merely lift hollywood rocks with ease, but that throw at 1:50 is incredible. I love how Kirk instinctively keeps his distance at first when Gary get's his powers back. This is a tremendously well-filmed scene.

i was just about to write the same question....

maybe it was changed to T. instead of R. around the time of the films. i mean the costumes from the TOS were practically made by the actors mum, so the chances of a few script and or editing errors are bound to happen.

@Tilantelcontar Supposedly, when they were both at the Academy, Kirk was amazing at racquetball, and Mitchell joked it should be his middle name. So it's kind of an in-joke (though, of course, actually just a production mistake) but it makes it more horrifying to think about it in the context of Mitchell trying to murder his friend.
