  • This is shit... its a disgrace compared to the original. Utterly butchered.

  • Contra Fifth from Left, Greg Ramsey.......his rookie year blowin' it up

  • its called requiem for a soldier dumb asses

  • @kathleenkings9602 I tought mesalf hou two speel

  • I Tought Myself Sort Of How To Play This On Trumpet. :D

  • hats off to the devs for taking a beautiful Crown piece and Butchering it. the song is flowing. there are no pauses. it loses the effect. no matter how full of a sound you have.

  • The Blue Devils are not my favorite, but I don't despise them...but there are just some musical moments where trumpet players do not need to scream into the stratosphere. It's not musical.

  • Man those first trumpets were out of tune on the long notes!

  • the jmu mrd trumpet section does a version of this song that absolutely blows my mind.

  • Absolutely awesome !!! God bless those who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms!!!

  • I almost cried...

  • @drew32904 tough not to when you think about it.

  • Great sound, but ripple fail contra hahahah

  • Beautiful until 1:18, I am a trumpet player and i apologize for my fellow players, it happens... :/ . But this is BD, they would bring Mary Had a little Lamb up 2 octaves to if they could. After a long day of practice this was still pretty damn good.

  • i abosolutly love this song, they got it right on the spot!! go bluedevils

  • very well done i expect nothing less than musical excellence of the blue devils

  • Beautiful. This is probably one of the best arrangements I have heard in a long while.

  • he shanked the g :'(

  • way to many tropits

  • I love going on a BD video, and seeing a bunch of dissin on it........ it makes me so happy that people are starting to not like BD

  • @scottiesteele Some people have always not liked BD, but BD is still one of the best Corps out there

  • @scottiesteele You don't belong on drum corps vids then. DCI is about class, and dissing another corps is NOT class.

  • @scottiesteele this is why we can't have nice things. why do you look at BD videos if you don't like them? troll...

  • @Bluecoatsdrummer2012 Are you really in Blue Coats drumline? If so, immediate love making over the internet is possible now.

  • stop dissing how the blue devils played the song guys...its a beautiful song so just enjoy it. brings chills to whoever listens to it

  • mmmmmmmm.... overtones :)

  • this is from the movie right?

  • They clip the phrases... :(

  • man, BD upgrades their horns every year T_T now they are on the new King System Blue horns that their brass heads helped design

  • Lose the Pit and Bring Back REAL BUGLES .... Everyone tells me how much better it sounds ...I DON'T THINK SO TIM.....WHO thought it would be best to do a 17 Min Show in under 10 mins by RUNNING ???? I am a Fat Old Guy and If I Tried to march like these kids as a 20 yearold I would be DEAD .... I miss walking out Humming the tunes you just heard . Now you walk out looking up on your Cell Phone , is there really a Song by that name ? BRING BACK MY DRUM CORPS ..

  • @saxybeast13 You've obviously never have seen a live corps performance. All you have probably heard are youtube videos that the recording is crappy. Every corps has an amazing sound. I won't lie, I'm not a big BD fan myself, I pull more for the Cavies... But these corps all have amazing sound that will give anybody chills. Please grow up a little bit more before you go and comment about how they're "boring as hell."

  • haha I see Brad in the contras!

  • too much space!!! not enough long notes which is what the song should be like. thats the fucking problem with BD. NOTHING IS MELODIC OR INTERESTING. ITS ALL JUST PLAY AS LOUD AS YOU CAN. its boring as hell. yeah they have capes which is cool, but i hate their sound 100%!!!

wana hear the real shit, CAROLINA CROWN RETARDS!!!!

  • I believe the DCI has peaked and lost touch with the fans. Drum Corps is fading and I am afraid it will not last much longer. The top 10 are extremly talented but really the shows are not that entertaining any longer. 10 years ago BD, Cavies, Cadets, all made the hair on your neck stand , now we're into music the audience doesnt understand and GE that borders on avante garde...

Dont get me wrong, the instrumentation is far better than years ago, just no entertainment.

  • @Dusty8417 i don't know man. The Phantom's show in 2009 was possibly the best i've seen. ever. I mean, the old scouts doing the maleguanea was amazing but, still..

I'm still in high school, bt soon as I'm out i plan on goin up to them, me and alot of my other friends. DCI hasn't peaked yet...possibly just a new era of entertainment? They have most definantally inspired my band to go above and beyond what most highschools do. I dont think they faded just yet ;)

  • I like how on BD videos people just critique the shit out of the players. Yeah it was a little dirty. Big deal. They are still better than all of us.

  • @buzzcutjoe if they are better than "all of us" they should take pride in everything they do... this is not top tier quality.... moments are really amazing but it's the awful attacks and intonation that kills it... it leaves a sour taste in my mouth knowing they still get 1st place at finals

  • Comment removed

  • lead soprano's attacks are off.

  • wow that was awful....

  • honestly, I didnt really like it.

  • anyone else notice the angles that come in at 1:02 in the sop section... im just saying they have a little help being f-ing amazing

  • Man the trumpet with the solo was way outta tune, other than that lead trumpet need more volume on their high e's, other than that really nice.

  • @schilke237 its BD... they dont play classical style pieces...

  • that sounds like they just pushed poop through their horns. wana hear this sound good?...CAROLINA CROWN BITCHES!!!

  • that sounds like they just pushed poop through their horns. wana hear this sound good?...CAROLINA CROWN BITCHES!!!

  • the guy who directs them helps my marching band 2!

  • Go Mr. Phil!!!!

  • omg goose bumps

  • FANTASTIC

  • Were playing this song in marching band!

  • The tone of the trumpet's is just so brilliant, but it's just too much for a piece like this. But still best trumpet line out of any corp.

  • This is freekin amazing, i love band of brothers and i love the Blue Devils!!

  • Awesome Blue Devils!!!!!

  • Phantom...

  • I still think Crown does it better.

  • @Laxplayer027 The Marching Chips do it better than all of them.

  • @Laxplayer027 there is nothing like a crown, for picking it up, and putting it down.

  • phantom did it better lol

  • Einfach nur geil....

  • I <3 DCI

  • It's things like this that make me proud to be a brass player.

  • I still give best hornline to Phantom

  • idk.. I love blue devils.. but Band of Brothers isn't really their cup of tea. They're just blast a lot, don't take it the wrong way I love blasts as much as the next drum corp guy, but Band of Brothers is supposed to be warm and emotional, not as loud as possible and without a large sense of articulation. Still gotta love BD though :)

  • I love the song and the Blue Devils, but I don't think I would have arranged it in the beginning the same way with all of the pauses and breaths at the same time. Not that they did it poorly, just difference in phrasing opinions.

  • cant wait to march either for phantom or blue devils. Dlue Devils are an awesome corps but phantom has THE BEST hornline in the world.

  • @DjPeace4Life Not according to the DCI scores... BD in 1st, Phantom in 6th this year

  • @Jambando what the judges say finals night isnt everything. some people just refuse to understand that.

  • @goldcrayon2 Who said it was?

  • I wnna contra for marching!!!!!! X3

  • band of brothers is awesome!

  • BAC 2010 70th generation = ) no one else matters. Cant wait for touring to start

  • not good

  • Ok, I just listened to this again and I take my previous comment back.

This sounds terrible. Lots of blasting and intonation issues, and very little musical content.

  • @freshhh1994 It probably sounds better if you listen to it live, instead of through the camera. I don't think any of the videos on youtube do any of the bands justice to how precise and balanced they are, even the "C" Corps.

  • @HighTyro05 thank you high tyro

  • so this evolution of dci bands, this is BD. can't believe what I just heard.

  • the beginning was amazing, but got increasingly worse

  • Lol. the guy at the end relaxed then was like "crap we're still at attention!"

  • haha i know who that is

  • haha yeha i was just gonna say that

  • @kenny5292 He wasn't making to relax, he was making to bring his horn down like they usually do at the end of a piece.

  • @kenny5292 I bet he had to run a couple of laps for that

  • @kenny5292 The tubas do a peel horns down, idk if you saw at the end.

But the guy in the middle failed, haha, was pretty funny.

  • @Meik101 Yea I know they do the peel horns down. Yea I was definitely talking about the guy in the middle. lol.

  • i love this its great. im a junior in high school playin first chair trombone in jazz and symphonic, we have an ok music program it could be better but we have lazy ass people that complain alot... blue devils are beast. if anyone has the sheet music to this and their space chords message me wit them please. dont have to be trombone could be euphonium too. thanks

  • That ratio of Workers to Whiners is pretty important. Like you said, the lazy people complain the most and the loudest, probably and ironically about how lame your band is compared with better band X. Hope you have better luck in the future. Keep working hard. All-State was my salvation every year.

  • aahhh haha I marched academy and ASU with the contra 6th from the left lol. Vern is the man.

  • OOOOOHHHH i just saw you tick at the end of the piece! Tsk tsk lol.

  • breathtaking - i like the echo at 1:24

  • Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I liked Crown more too. I liked BD, but yeah. I think Crown plays BOB better, but that's juts an opinion.

  • It's not that Crown plays it better. It's the arrangement. If BD got a hold of the arrangement that Crown Played, I'm pretty sure it would sound just as good as or much better than Crown. But yeah... BD's rendition of BOB, I would have to say.....eh.

  • I think Crown plays it better.

Why would BD play it as well or better? Crown did win brass, after all.

  • esses caras são fodas !!!

  • must have been real tired, cus they could have done better, but hey im not complaining... i cant do this for my life.. the cops aren't the boys in blue, these guys are... Go BlueDevils!

  • think of it this way, as far as 02 cavies goes...sure that show was fucking flawless, but you have to remember that in the past 7 years, judging has gotten more precise, and so have shows. the corps activity get's more demanding every SINGLE year. i'm not discrediting anyone, just saying that 26 for 26 in this day in age is unhuman. so don't discredit the fact that that hasn't been done like it was for BD 09. :]

  • @hellomanhowareyou i lol'ed

  • My favorite part about DCI is that all of them are awesome!!! ---Go Cavaliers 2006.

  • Simply amazing!

  • I think the boys in blue are one of the best corps out there hands down....having said that this arrangement could have been done better justice...especially because of its meaning!! I figured that would have been the standard anyways!

  • WHAT!! blue knights aren't the best but they sure are good

  • suck a fat one douchebag, the point is is that the DCI guys rehearse for about 4-5hrs and then go perform for competition, so they're always playing... they reserve their all for the competition field, but even rehearsals sound good

  • caramba....po bixo ....isso sim é afinaçao .....

    one band one sound

  • this was at the end of a four hour rehersal...lips were probably very dead...cut them a break...i do believe that they won handily, no?

  • There is no way this was at the end of a four hour rehearsal, they performed this BEFORE a competition.

  • IDK about that, the DCI guys are tough as nails. I seen the Blue Knights do at least 5 hrs rehersal time and do a show like they've had a week to rest.

  • They performed it after a four hour rehersal in stanford stadium after spending the night at stanford and then went to perform later that night.

    So short answer. You're wrong.

  • uh dude this was at the alumni barbecue.... the relatives and others watched them practice at a field nearby while they had the barbecue. then the blue devils came over to the barbecue to eat and play up close, and yes this was before a show but they did in fact play for 4 hours... then another couple songs and then like a couple hour break just to play again

  • Top Score in DCI History...

    Blue Smoke 09... 26 for 26...

    B L U E

  • not top score, actually...

    02 cavies and 05 cadets got 99.15

  • U Right... My bad... That 02 Cavi's show was sick

  • start sending in the clowns!

here come the "thumbs down"s on my comment

    go vanguard!

  • ahahahahaha u all actually made it negative. lolz

  • good man right here. good man.

  • @beetrobot... meh vanguard good... im not gonna negative

  • lol fail contra at 1:50

  • that trumpet couldnt get that note at 1:20 lol

  • I have to say, I wish BD was better at playing non-jazz music.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing this is Stanford... this was the first time I had seen BD live... it blew me away...

  • this is a very well played and seemed a lot of emotion was put into and it did the job it needed to to blow our mind

  • Wow Blue Devs I am blown away. Nice job Brass !!

  • nice

    ****

but not WARM enough and singular.

More deep Brass around the sound

  • lol tuba player confused at the end :P

  • i think it's secy to see a girl in the trumpet section. :D

    any brass.

    like me!

    i play baritone!

    >:D

  • Ah yea, got the balls right in your face! (tubas you perverts).

  • BEA-U-TI-FUL....

  • this sounds fantastic!

but in my opinion, carolina crown's style of playing this sounds more relaxed.

Crown just plays it better, to me.

  • I thought it was pretty good. When I hear this song I think of the intro and all the bits of episodes showing.

  • trumpets so out of tune at the impact at 1:20!

  • 1:20 holy...

  • Oops.

  • You're all a bunch of turds... I think this sounds great for June.

  • Comment removed

  • They need to stick to jazz......... and sitting in chairs for 11 minutes.

  • one day at rehearsal i decided to count how many seconds i actually sat in my chair throughout the entire show. I thought it would be interesting since the popular view is all we did was sit. The findings....20 seconds. That's not even half of the amount of time i spent marching at about 236 beats per minute.

  • I found it funny, even some of our biggest fans this season kept complaining about "all BD does is sit in chairs..." and cadets fans: "all BD does is sit and Crown just dances around...anyone can do that...but Cadets actually march...now that's hard..."

Oh the ignorance in those statements....

I find it much harder to do choreography while playing than simply moving feet...especially in this level activity.

  • Yes, the Blue Devils were the best drum and bugle corps and they're one of the best brass marching units in DCI today. However, that does not make this performance tasteful or in tune....it is neither. The hornline overblows it and does not control their intonation when they do. I've played this piece for many years in the US Army band and it deserves more respect than it was given.

  • well agreed..... the blue devils dont know how to play soft or with emotion.... MF, F , FF, FFF, FFFF....thats how they roll..... And that is not a good thing.... Splatty......!

  • It's a drum and bugle corp, what do you expect?

  • @freshhh1994

It's not drum and bugle corps anymore. If it was, it would sound a HELL of a lot better. What I heard here was shocking and pathetic, from BD of all corps. Close my eyes and I woulda thought it was a corps that didn't make top 25 in 1982.

  • Maybe if they told the high brass to tone it down a bit, maybe.

    Really, it's not THAT bad.

  • Comment removed

  • actually im not a crown kid i just liked their book this yr and btw blue devils play soft and loud... thats some mature musicianship rite there... o yea... gotta love them blue devils... hell yea! ha! lol...

  • There was a 4.5 hr rehearsal directly before this, chops were definitely dead

  • No excuse to play unmusically. Those kids rehearse 10 hours a day and are never instructed to play unmusically.

  • You are confusing choosing to play unmusically and not being able to play musically. Like I said, chops were probably dead from the long rehearsal / no down time. Its a matter of being physically fatigued not ignoring musical concepts

  • I'm not confusing anything. They played it unmusically. You really think the entire hornline's chops were blown (that's bs) and the instructor didn't recognize that (that's bs). How many years have you spent playing a brass instrument....performing in a drum and bugle corps....teaching a drum and bugle corps hornline. I love the blue devils...however, this was a very unmusical performance. Whatever the excuse their fans make up...it was not good.

  • Stupidest thing I've ever heard. Should you not criticize the soloist in '89 that wrecked "If We Were In Love"? I still love that show but he KILLED the effect. Do you think mass murderers parents don't criticize them because they love them? Idiot.

  • Please do everyone a favor and delete your garbage comment. That is unnecessary.

  • Well this was before a show, so if they were physically fatigued I can imagine how their show went. As ChuckNespy said, there's no excuse to play unmusically. All drum corps undergo a long rehearsal, but that doesn't mean they produce a crap performance like this.

  • Crap performance? What are you guys watching? Its not up to BD standards, but its far from crap. And this is obviously daytime, when was the last time BD went on in the day. They had at least 4 hrs before warm-up I'm sure

  • For BD's standards, this is crap. If anything, I complemented them. The BD's have the potential of producing the best sound, but this was not their day.

  • Comment removed

  • You guys do realize this was not part of the corps show, and we just done for fun before a BBQ???

You want intonation and excellence... Watch FINALS ;-)

  • Yeah and Wayne is okay with stuff sounding like crap just for fun? I guess he's losing it in his old age becuase there used to be a day where he demanded excellence every time the horn was put on the face. You can make up any excuse you want...it does not change the lack of performance quality.

  • watch crown in finals......

  • U Right... Crown kicks ass!!!

  • terrible Carolina Crowns is way better. but good contras at he end

  • That was pretty gross at 1:20

  • Yeah, attack of the transition and tone quality kinda blew.

  • Comment removed

  • I marched with Crown this season, and from watching Blue Devils...all I can say is they are fantastic performers regardless of whether the show design is weak or not. This arrangement is disgusting to me, especially the lack of musicality (as in style, dynamics, phrasing). It is far from the original piece. Notice how rarely any of the sections play together at the same time, and when one section ends their phrase and another enters that transition is awful. BD...stick to jazz.

  • I marched with BD this season and played in this particular performance. And I agree with you. This is one of my favorite pieces from cinema and if any drum corps is going to play it, it should be Crown. I never felt that we rehearsed this piece enough or became emotionally attached enough to perform it when another corps was performing it so well.

  • Crown's brass was amazing this year

nothing against you guys, I love jazz and i love some of your guy's older shows styles but you have gotten a bit high brass heavy, to feature the contras is something extraordinarily cool

  • And also, congratulations this summer euphdude0812. By far my favorite from any other corps. Such a cool show. You guys deserved the Jim Ott, without a doubt. I'm glad that such a classy corps and great group of performers is finally were they belong.

  • hehe those are my top 3 corps

  • Comment removed

  • this is quite possibly the worst arrangement I have ever heard of band of brothers

  • amen

  • they need to realize that you don't need to have a trumpet screaming every second of a piece

  • Just another piece ruined by BD...remember America the Beautiful last year at finals? Yeah... If you want to hear a mature group of musicians perform this piece, listen to Carolina Crown.
