Thats the strangest Super Nintendo I have ever seen. Was the UK version different than the N.American version? Great collection would be an understatement. Cheers
@ScubaDiverPicker In the UK, and indeed the rest of the world apart from North America (I believe), the Super Nintendo had the same design as Japan's Super Famicom :)
Wow! I'd love to have a collection like that, I do have a Game Cube, SNES, 2x PS2, PS1, PS3, GameBoy, Gameboy Pocket, Pickachu Yellow GB Colour and Aussie green and gold GB Colour, GBA, GBA SP gamelink socket not working, a Tandy MC10 computer.

@SteveBenway Lol, really? That's unfortunate -- I loved mine, probably did 90% of my Game Boy playing on it. XD Made Pokemon twice as good, I felt like... now I just wonder what happened to it!
@1sttimegamer Oh yes, some certainly get more use than others, largely depending on how easy they are to use, and how much software I have for them. If you check out the rest of my channel though, you'll see that I'm working my way through making gameplay videos for every game in my collection.
the acorn electron you got to be joking. i have the games from it. But the machine is already dead but damn i was like 11 years when this baby come to the mark. Lets see if i can buy this baby again :D login to markplaats.nl :P
@lsbtrindade The first machine I bought was the Atari 600XL in around '86, but I didn't consciously make a decision to collect retro kit till around '97.
Your collection makes my tiny collection look like an unusually small ant who just got flattened by a steamroller. But I do have a Sega SC-3000H, a rather nifty & cool computer/console thing with no genuine classics but bucket-loads of charm. But you, yes you have a "Jupiter Ace", and now I'm so jealous that I could request Prince Vegeta to blow up one of the moons of mars. Not that anyone would complain. Mars has very crappy moons. Jupiter's moons are way better.
@BrianPicchi Apple IIs are not at all common in the UK, making them very expensive, and at the moment, I simply can't afford one. They're on of many systems on my "to buy" list.
@elvirtnt Inside that whopping great big grey tower case, with a load of serious expansion kit. I don't have a standard one. I've got a 4000 too, since that video was made.
@thetruemetroid There are some differences, like extra software built into the Plus/4 and possibly more memory, but they are largely the same machine.
@thetruemetroid That's what I mean by not overly collectable. They aren't in demand and so don't have a very high value. They're easy to find, but there isn't much point.

@SteveBenway Is the Magnavox Odyssey in that list? Infact what would a mint condition one be worth now? gotta be more than your Jupiter ace? Cool collection btw.

Hey Steve, I saw a Binatone Mk10 I think in one of your other videos. It only had a brief moment on the camera right at the start as the piece wasn't focusing on that particular console. I didn't see it in your collection here!
@Scrobes You're right, I do have a Mk10 and a Mk6. This video is very old though, March 2009. I plan to do another one some time, just to include the stuff I've picked up since making this. I'm in no hurry though, as it isn't many systems.
Seing the Atari 520 ST made me all nostalgic, had some great times with that machine as a boy playing R-Type, Gaunlet, Nebulus, Lemmings and many others.

Cdtv is great i bought one at a car boot for 25 pound with the keyboard and got a scussi hard drive expansion and drive from ebay i loved it and never intended to sell it something i regret i got about 80 quid for it which was about 20 quid profit hard drive was external and i had a adaptor to power it from the cdtv .Cd32 i also had but the laser was faulty so i gave it away with most of the games .
thanks again for showing us your huge collection. amazing to see a neo geo with the cartridge. do you have ninja combat for it? if yes, could you do a video about that game? i'm rather curious what you think of it :-D
@musicmaniac1965 Heh... funny... I had never bothered to look at the likes/dislikes on this one. I know someone who's gone through 15 different accounts in the past few months.... bet half of them are from him... lol
I only have 2 games for my NeoGeo, they're so expensive. Robo Army (which was kindly donated by a friend) and Fatal Fury 2 special Edition. Vids of both are up already :)
HDTVs in the UK seem to be more retro capable than those in the US, from what I'm hearing. My TV has a standard TV aerial input that I use for many of my consoles and computes, while many others use scart.
@yeroc1337 They definitely are. There were some very nice SP's around at that time, and they're still the handheld I most usually grab when I'm going out.
@SteveBenway They're actually kind of rare these days, our's are both in good condition, so let's keep them safe and be cool when they're on a shortage. (: Soon, SP's will be out of stores, and our's will be awesome! :D
@piplupturtwig Yeah, I'd love to get one of those. Frustratingly, every time I've seen one for sale, I haven't had the money to buy it. As it is, money has been tight for some time and I haven't bought much of anything... but one day :)
Steve, On a wider point, many people do not know how to properly apologize. You do NOT say sorry... then give a list of excuses for your shitty actions. . . . Here's how a person apologizes correctly: * You say sorry for what you've done. * Unreservedly. * And don't tack on excuses after the fact! Simple, yet so many people don't have the backbone to do it right.
cool coletion, only thing missing is pc engine cd rom, supergrafx, but you literally have everything else.Do youi have any contemporary consoles like 360/ps3/wii
@skunkkey666 There's much more than the PCEngine CD ROM and Supergrafx missing... I have a wish list a mile long, but for the moment money and space prevent me from getting more systems.
I have some modern kit - PS3, PSP, DS Lite, and Wii, but no 360.
@SteveBenway i got ps3,pc ,mac mini x360 mod ps2 and cfw psp which i use to play retro classics,i have a white pc engine with cd rom,but gears and plastic that attaches laser to wormscrew have gone,i hope to get it runing again,i have emus on psp for snes pce and megadrive, neo geo,its my retro arcade, all the greatest shmups are on one sd card, sapphire, salamander colec gradius colec parodius colec twinbee colec, ill probably do vid showing my psp off
I was just wondering. You must have loads of joysticks (Amiga, C64 etc.) Do you ever show them? I kinda like the many designs, but they do take a lot of room. Oh and another thing, no monitor for the CPC 464? How do you play?
@revolutionactiondk I've been thinking about doing a video showing the assorted joypads and sticks that come with all these machines... so maybe I'll do one quite soon.
I do have a monitor for the CPC, but when I record gaming videos for the Amstrad I use the MP-1 PSU/modulator module.
You say you won't be expanding it for a while (fair enough) and you don't want people asking you where to sell stuff (also fair enough). Hypothetical question: what if one of us wanted to give you something? Would you accept gifts of machines?
I have been known to accept gift machines. It's not often that people offer, and in truth that's something of a relief, because I do find myself feeling very awkward when people give me stuff like that.
I feel like I should be reciprocating in some way, even though they say I shouldn't.
Does that mean I'm ungrateful? Not at all. I'm just socially awkward :)
@SteveBenway I've now seen a couple of other videos by you and enjoyed them very much. keep it up, espacially the obscure computers which most of us have never had.
Sweet collection! I recognize some of them. Especially the Tandy Radio Shack wow memories there! I wanted to see the Apple lle I grew up with that. And of course I'm still outraged Sega Game Gear never really caught on, I still have mine and some bootleg games from Japan, Dr.Mario was called Dr.Teeth in the bootleg version!
I'd love to get my hands on a IIe, but they aren't that common over here, and true to Apple form, those that come up cost more than I can afford at the moment.
@ninja7x3 The differences are largely cosmetic. The Mk2 is smaller, and a slightly different shape.
Internally, the Mk2 has some slightly different components to reduce production costs. Some people say the Mk1 has slightly better image and sound quality.
really great collection, although I didn't know most of these computers and consoles I did have ZX Spectrum the one with the rubber buttons and a funny plastic gun. It was really difficult then for my parents to get it "behind the iron curtain" ( Poland here ), I think my uncle got it when he was on a trip in the UK as a university worker (rare privilage then). I had an Amiga 500+ with a little switch on the side that was changing it into 600, good times.. shame I sold it :/
@leakingpointer That's pretty cool that you managed to get a Spectrum. I used to work with a lot of people from Poland, and none of them had heard of Sinclair computers, but used some machines I'd never heard of. A bit of research showed they were ZX Spectrum clones.
What did the switch on your 500+ do? The 600 had exactly the same ROM, RAM, and CPU as the 500+, it was just smaller, and had no numeric keypad.
@SteveBenway Although I'm into hardware stuff now and a programmer for living I just can't remember what it did exactly, puts me in shame kind of heh. I just remember that to play some games you had to switch it. It really doesn't make sense now when I think about it, taking computer architecture into consideration.
@SteveBenway Now I know, wikipedia comes handy should have checked earlier it was a custom built Kickstart switching button. After wikipedia - some games didn't work properly all at all on a new Kickstart hence the switch ( I dunno where the idea of "changing it to amiga 600 came from, maybe because my mate had amiga 600 then with all games working properly
It'll probably have been switching between Kickstart 2.04 and 1.3, or something like that. Quite a few earlier Amiga 500 games didn't work on the 500+.
There's a software workaround called Relokick that helps a lot, but isn't perfect, so that switch sounds like a very effective fix.
MAN THAT GUY'S NUTS!!! lol sorry couldn't help but post my feelings for this video you know the score from my retro origins response on the other channel =)
@2xrapx2 The "keyboards" you can see in this video are in fact computers. Back in the 80s that's what home computers looked like. They didn't have separate keyboards and CPU/Drive sections. Most of them plugged into a normal TV, as opposed to a monitor.
@2xrapx2 They all have games for them, but unlike modern PCs mostly aren't compatible with each other.
Some systems can run software from others, like Dragon32 can run some TRS-80 Color Computer software, because it is a very similar computer... but most of them are completely incompatible with all of the others.
I have games for most of these systems, but not quite all of them.
And thank you for posting! Great video. Back in the 80's I had a Sharp machine, similar to the Commodore 64 I think. It was a very tick keyboard. Worked with cassette tapes and you could tape games/programs from the radio. All you heard were Morse code blips, but it worked. Also did piles of Basic programming om my good old Sharp.
Amazing collection , i have a lot but not like you, you need to add a Argentine Drean Commodore models , the only brand who has permission from Commodore to build machines with Drean brand (licensing) :)
Check out Brotherhood of Leet at my youtube channel - a re-imagining of WW2 dramas like Band of Brothers as if they were set during the 8 bit wars of the 1980s where Nintendo and Sega are waring nations.
Quite a healthy collection of vintage consoles / computers. :)
Just out of curiosity (even though you hexed the Sega Master System hehe) is that the original with the built-in hidden Snail Maze game? If it is that's a rare catch.
@Aichmorhabdophobia I'm unaware of a snail game. This one has Hang On and some shooting game that uses a light gun. I've forgotten the name of it, which shows how often I play on the thing... lol.
theres an expansion for the colecovision to play atari 2600 games, if you ask me, that shouldnt be allowed, thats like making an expansion for the wii to play 360 games
@richardmaudsley77 Y'know, I don't actually remember what the ZX80 cost me. It was in the region of £150 - £200, but I don't remember the exact figure.
Tell your sister she's a meanie.
Though to be honest, +2s are probably the least cool spectrum you can get... especially the grey ones.
@richardmaudsley77 ZX80s are loads more than that now. I bought mine a couple of years ago. Their price shot up after the TV movie "Micro Men" was aired.
Wonderful collection! It's too bad you're not colllecting anymore. You really need to find the original TRS-80 with the 8inch floppy. Cheers mate... nice to see this.
Hey Steve, a couple of days ago, I finally picked up an EACA Video Genie System on eBay. It'll be arriving soon.
Here's a suggestion that might get some software running on yours. Find some TRS-80 Model 1 software on the internet, link your Video Genie to your computer/laptop, and load them onto it via that. Kinda like what you did with the Jupiter Ace. =)
2:52 that Video genie system looks exactely like the Hungarian "HT 1080z" 8 bit school computer :)

Cdtv is great i bought one at a car boot for 25 pound with the keyboard and got a scussi hard drive expansion and drive from ebay i loved it and never intended to sell it something i regret i got about 80 quid for it which was about 20 quid profit hard drive was external and i had a adaptor to power it from the cdtv .Cd32 i also had but the laser was faulty so i gave it away with most of the games .

thanks again for showing us your huge collection. amazing to see a neo geo with the cartridge. do you have ninja combat for it? if yes, could you do a video about that game? i'm rather curious what you think of it :-D
musicmaniac1965 1 year ago
@musicmaniac1965 Heh... funny... I had never bothered to look at the likes/dislikes on this one. I know someone who's gone through 15 different accounts in the past few months.... bet half of them are from him... lol
I only have 2 games for my NeoGeo, they're so expensive. Robo Army (which was kindly donated by a friend) and Fatal Fury 2 special Edition. Vids of both are up already :)

i did not knew more than half of those oldschool computers, exept for ofcors commodore, sinclair, msx, and amstrad :-D

HDTVs in the UK seem to be more retro capable than those in the US, from what I'm hearing. My TV has a standard TV aerial input that I use for many of my consoles and computes, while many others use scart.

what's the value for this collection ~ thnxs
twilight9202 1 year ago
@twilight9202 I'm not sure of the exact value, but I estimate somewhere around £3000 at average ebay prices.
SteveBenway 1 year ago
@SteveBenway ~ HDtv able ? if so ~ how ~
twilight9202 1 year ago
@SteveBenway ~ or 6 k USD - would U ever sell this collection & what sets can you plug these devices into :
twilight9202 1 year ago
@twilight9202 I'd only sell them if I absolutely had to. Like in dire circumstances.
They plug into most UK TV sets, coz modern TVs here still have an RF aerial socket and scart inputs.

@skunkkey666 There's much more than the PCEngine CD ROM and Supergrafx missing... I have a wish list a mile long, but for the moment money and space prevent me from getting more systems.
I have some modern kit - PS3, PSP, DS Lite, and Wii, but no 360.

@SteveBenway i got ps3,pc ,mac mini x360 mod ps2 and cfw psp which i use to play retro classics,i have a white pc engine with cd rom,but gears and plastic that attaches laser to wormscrew have gone,i hope to get it runing again,i have emus on psp for snes pce and megadrive, neo geo,its my retro arcade, all the greatest shmups are on one sd card, sapphire, salamander colec gradius colec parodius colec twinbee colec, ill probably do vid showing my psp off
skunkkey666 1 year ago
I was just wondering. You must have loads of joysticks (Amiga, C64 etc.) Do you ever show them? I kinda like the many designs, but they do take a lot of room. Oh and another thing, no monitor for the CPC 464? How do you play?
revolutionactiondk 1 year ago
@revolutionactiondk I've been thinking about doing a video showing the assorted joypads and sticks that come with all these machines... so maybe I'll do one quite soon.
I do have a monitor for the CPC, but when I record gaming videos for the Amstrad I use the MP-1 PSU/modulator module.

You have just displeased my wife greatly. My collection will be expanding greatly after watching this!
skankingrudeboy 1 year ago
You say you won't be expanding it for a while (fair enough) and you don't want people asking you where to sell stuff (also fair enough). Hypothetical question: what if one of us wanted to give you something? Would you accept gifts of machines?
DdlyHeadshot 1 year ago
@DdlyHeadshot A very good question.
Not at all. I'm just socially awkward :)

what is the diffenrece between Mega Drive MK1 and MK2 and does the MK2 play MK1 games
ninja7x3 1 year ago
@ninja7x3 The differences are largely cosmetic. The Mk2 is smaller, and a slightly different shape.
Internally, the Mk2 has some slightly different components to reduce production costs. Some people say the Mk1 has slightly better image and sound quality.
They both play exactly the same games.

really great collection, although I didn't know most of these computers and consoles I did have ZX Spectrum the one with the rubber buttons and a funny plastic gun. It was really difficult then for my parents to get it "behind the iron curtain" ( Poland here ), I think my uncle got it when he was on a trip in the UK as a university worker (rare privilage then). I had an Amiga 500+ with a little switch on the side that was changing it into 600, good times.. shame I sold it :/
leakingpointer 1 year ago
@leakingpointer That's pretty cool that you managed to get a Spectrum. I used to work with a lot of people from Poland, and none of them had heard of Sinclair computers, but used some machines I'd never heard of. A bit of research showed they were ZX Spectrum clones.
What did the switch on your 500+ do? The 600 had exactly the same ROM, RAM, and CPU as the 500+, it was just smaller, and had no numeric keypad.
SteveBenway 1 year ago
@SteveBenway Although I'm into hardware stuff now and a programmer for living I just can't remember what it did exactly, puts me in shame kind of heh. I just remember that to play some games you had to switch it. It really doesn't make sense now when I think about it, taking computer architecture into consideration.
leakingpointer 1 year ago
@SteveBenway Now I know, wikipedia comes handy should have checked earlier it was a custom built Kickstart switching button. After wikipedia - some games didn't work properly all at all on a new Kickstart hence the switch ( I dunno where the idea of "changing it to amiga 600 came from, maybe because my mate had amiga 600 then with all games working properly
leakingpointer 1 year ago
@leakingpointer I get it :)
It'll probably have been switching between Kickstart 2.04 and 1.3, or something like that. Quite a few earlier Amiga 500 games didn't work on the 500+.
There's a software workaround called Relokick that helps a lot, but isn't perfect, so that switch sounds like a very effective fix.

can someone explain to me why its just a keyboard? does it hook up with a moniter or somthing?
2xrapx2 1 year ago
@2xrapx2 The "keyboards" you can see in this video are in fact computers. Back in the 80s that's what home computers looked like. They didn't have separate keyboards and CPU/Drive sections. Most of them plugged into a normal TV, as opposed to a monitor.
SteveBenway 1 year ago
@SteveBenway
oh, and does every computer have its onw game or somthing?
2xrapx2 1 year ago
@2xrapx2 They all have games for them, but unlike modern PCs mostly aren't compatible with each other.
Some systems can run software from others, like Dragon32 can run some TRS-80 Color Computer software, because it is a very similar computer... but most of them are completely incompatible with all of the others.
I have games for most of these systems, but not quite all of them.
SteveBenway 1 year ago
And thank you for posting! Great video. Back in the 80's I had a Sharp machine, similar to the Commodore 64 I think. It was a very tick keyboard. Worked with cassette tapes and you could tape games/programs from the radio. All you heard were Morse code blips, but it worked. Also did piles of Basic programming om my good old Sharp.
Bolkiebasher 1 year ago
@Bolkiebasher That was probably an MSX, though I guess it could have been one of their earlier MZ80 models.
I remember hearing about the radio thing, but never actually got to try it.

Amazing collection , i have a lot but not like you, you need to add a Argentine Drean Commodore models , the only brand who has permission from Commodore to build machines with Drean brand (licensing) :)

Quite a healthy collection of vintage consoles / computers. :)
Just out of curiosity (even though you hexed the Sega Master System hehe) is that the original with the built-in hidden Snail Maze game? If it is that's a rare catch.
Aichmorhabdophobia 1 year ago
@Aichmorhabdophobia I'm unaware of a snail game. This one has Hang On and some shooting game that uses a light gun. I've forgotten the name of it, which shows how often I play on the thing... lol.

bloody hell, how much did that zx80 cost you?
My sister got given two Speccy+2s and a load of stuff for them. She threw them out even though I wanted them :(
richardmaudsley77 1 year ago
@richardmaudsley77 Y'know, I don't actually remember what the ZX80 cost me. It was in the region of £150 - £200, but I don't remember the exact figure.
Tell your sister she's a meanie.
Though to be honest, +2s are probably the least cool spectrum you can get... especially the grey ones.
SteveBenway 1 year ago
@SteveBenway ahh but they were the highest spec speccys...
I wouldve thought a zx80 would be loads more than that...
richardmaudsley77 1 year ago
@richardmaudsley77 ZX80s are loads more than that now. I bought mine a couple of years ago. Their price shot up after the TV movie "Micro Men" was aired.

mariosonic190 1 year ago
That will work with basic programs, but not with machine code. For some reason, machine code programs can only be accepted by the built in tape deck.
