  • Hey, what toms are those? They saound amazing, any special thing you did to get them there? they rock

    thanks

  • @xHDR4317x thanks- those are Taye Studio Maple toms with stock heads (Taye brand very similar to Remo coated Ambassadors). Just tuned them up, no muffling. This vid was from 2008. I currently have Aquarian Studio X heads on the toms now and they sound great as well, albeit for a different sound.

  • lol ur a lefty!

  • Mapex Black Panther Stell or Maple?

  • Steel 14"x5.5" with diecast hoops. Batter side: Evans G1 coated. Reso side is original factory head Remo Weatherking Ambassador.

  • the snare is awesome!!!!! what drumhead that u use?

  • tnx! Evans Genera G1 coated,

Reso side is a Remo Ambassador. No muffling.

  • fantastic dude, i wonder evans or remo better?

  • I usually prefer Remo for snares mostly, but this Evans G1 really impressed me. Lasted forever and sounded great. Both will do the job, just make sure you seat the head properly and tune it evenly.

  • My brand new Evans G1 broke after 3 weeks. I've been playing and tuning my own drums for 8+ years and I've never had such a crappy head. After 2 weeks it sounded real flat and didn't project well and then it broke. Evans sent me a complimentary replacement so we'll see how that goes. I like Remo because they sound great for long periods of time and still sound decent. Even with 4 hours of practice a day.

  • Wow, the one on this drum lasted for years! I wonder if there's a shelf life for heads stored @ a music store. Or maybe you got a dud? Cool of Evans to send you a replacement. I've gone back to Remo Emperor for snares myself.

  • I wondered that too. I think the coated Emperors with the reverse dot sound great on 14x5.5 drums but single ply heads sound best for my Joey Jordison model. I prefer them over two ply heads for snare but I use emperors on the toms.

  • You've got your kit well tuned! And nice playing as well!

  • Wow. They sound great? =\

  • Thanks! Cheers!

  • That sounds amazing!

  • This is the Caisse claire MAPEX BLACK PANTHER Série Premium cuivre 13 X 5.5 ???

  • This snare drum is a Mapex Black Panther Steel 14"x5.5" with die-cast hoops. I just replaced the heads and on the shell it says it was made in November 1999.

  • where do you have your mics pointing exactly? Ive had trouble getting my mics in the right place and im loosing out on the stereo imaging and having a few phasing problems. also where did ya pan it? Ive read conflicting things with the panning and the glyn johns method. Your slightly different way of doing it sounds great i reckon.

  • The mics are pointing toward the center of the snare drum. Your phase issues might be related to room reflections as well as mic type and polar pattern. I'm pretty sure the overheads were panned hard left and right. Every situation is different and regardless of what you read about this technique, just use the method as a starting point -then adjust to your needs. Thanks for your comments. Cheers, Rez

  • that sounds fucking insane

  • dude what kinda ride is dat?

  • Zildjian 22" K Custom Medium Ride. I had a 3 other ride cymbals that were OK but not "it", so I traded them in for this one. No two cymbals are exactly alike, so I kept trying different ones until I found this one. It is my favorite too. Records well in many different musical styles.

  • nice sound and awesome playing bro :)

  • What kind of China is that? Awesome kit and playing!

  • It's a Sabian 16" ProSonix Chinese. I don't think they make them anymore.

  • It is the Mapex Black Panther Limited Edition 13x6 ??

  • Nope. Mapex Black Panther Steel 14"x5.5" with die-cast hoops. Got it back in 1999.

  • nice snare man, and great sounding kit.

  • like your groove man. It's in the pocket!!

  • he's a lefty...thats cool...

  • What mic setup are you using here? Any compression or fx?

  • Based on Glyn Johns. Some call it Recorderman. No compression or fx, just three mics. Proper level setting is key - as well as mic placement.

  • I absolutely love that snare, and I've got to say that your whole kit sounds awesome. By the way, what cymbals are those? They sound extra uber awesome with the kit, and your hi-hat just rules.

  • Thanks for such nice comments! The hats are an old pair of Zildjian 14" New Beats. 17" A Custom projection crash, a 22" K Medium Custom ride. 18" Sabian "AA" thin crash. Sabian Pro Sonix 16" China. Cheers, Ken

  • What type of Black Panther snare is that? I was thinking of getting the Hammered Brass 14x6.5, anyone have any good reviews on it?

  • Steel 14"x5.5" with diecast hoops. Batterside: Evans G1 coated. Reso side is original factory head Remo Weatherking Ambassador. I can't believe the reso head is still in good shape and holds it's tune b/c the snare is from '99!

  • btw- I've tried the Hammered Brass - it's very nice and has great cut through a loud band. It's a loud snare - everyone blinks when you smack it too!

  • Very nice, thank you.

  • Is that snare the SS Solid Steel Black Panther or the Stainless Steel?

  • It just says "Steel" on the badge.

  • Black Panther is my favourite snare!!!!!!!!! yeah!

  • Thanks for this video Evinger, I'm wanting to get a new snare and the high quality of this video is very much appreciated. More videos like this are needed on youtube.

  • dude what brand of recording equipment do you use.

    it sounds amazing.

  • RME. True Systems. Peluso. Audio Technica.

  • Peluso, RME, TrueSystems.

  • damn luv your snare i wanna buy the maple and cherry black panher`s snare but ima little scare about it.. i whan a good snare with versatility like yours but i donno about the maple and cherry sound.. would u please give me your opinion?

    luv your snare dude:s!

  • i got the walnut black panther 13x6 and that is really versitile, you can tune it high and it sounds really drum and bass or reggae or tune down and get a crisp deep sound. I love it haha

  • but your snare is maple and cherry? ima little concern about it bcus next tuesday i will buy that one.. i wanna good sound hope 2 do a good buy

  • I'm glad to hear you like the sound of my snare, which is a Steele version. I suggest hearing/playing the wood one in person if you can before buying. The Black Panther's series are all well made and sound good, but that wood combi may or may not be exactly what you're looking for.

  • Oo, haven't seen a lefty actually play on a lefty set in a while. Do you prefer playing on a lefty set? My drum teacher is a lefty but he plays open handed on a righty set.

  • I play drums as a lefty and prefer it. I can play a kit set up right-handed when I need to, with traditional cross-over (right hand on hi-hat), but as soon as I start thinking about it, I get my feet mixed up and start playing the hi-hat as a bass drum. ;-)

I play guitar and bass right-handed.

  • Haha, I'm a righty and I've played on a lefty set once, playing open handed, and I started playing hi-hat as bass drum a couple times. It's cool to see a lefty set though, don't see it much anymore.

By the way I love your playing, very solid, very groovy.

  • Thank you XJapan- it's a Mapex Black Panther Steel 14"x5.5" with die-cast hoops. Bought it around 1999. It's very versatile too. The batter side is an Evans Genera G1 coated, reso side is a Remo Ambassador. No muffling.

  • what exact type of black panther is that? sounds extremely good.

  • Zildjian "K" 22 inch Custom Medium Ride.
