Sherwin Williams sells the best caulk available...it's the perfect consistency, not runny. DAP is the worst..it's like water. The Sherwin Williams caulk tube doesn't require puncturing with a nail or the attachment on the gun. Getting the perfect size hole is critical...most people cut the tube way too large and it gushes out. You have to gauge it according to the size of the crack...a typical 1/8" crack requires a maximum 3/16" cut end of tube, any more is overkill and will get sloppy.

the built-in tip cutter is unreliable at best, the blade does not run flush to hole's opening; leaving your tip to resemble flip top cap of toothpaste, requiring your knife to clean up the mangled tip. the swing out puncture tool isn't always there; BUT look under the handle in the part that rests against your palm, that spring mechanism you squeeze most likely will be just long enough to break that seal if you stick it into the tube. just shove the tube up under onto the spring arm.

@GreatGig1 There are lots of different tools out there for running the "perfect" bead of caulk. I've yet to find one that works better than my finger. :) Get a damp towel to wipe off your finger and just go to town!
