The first time I have seen 'Oliver' was a college producion somewhere. The Dodger was probably 6 ft tall but was really good. Oliver was played by one of the female cast but it made sense that the song require someone who can reach the high notes.

I know Dodger is a male character. Plus Annie is a bad play. We were a High school play. Who asked the elementry school for kids to play the workhouse kids and fagins gang not every 3, 4 5th grade boy is gonna audition. We had 10 boys tops for our show. None of them were good enough to play Dodger. The director knew I was in the Gateway Playhouse he knew my Uncle so casted me for the role our play. lasted for 2 months.
