The author of this book is giving half truths. 1.) In the Enlistment Oath, it says you will support and defend the constitution against ALL ENEMIES. 2.) You will obey the orders of not just your officers, but the President of the United States. The US has a VOLUNTEER MILITARY. I'm a committed liberal, and I think this guy is full of it. We aren't at war with Afghanistan, and never were. We declared war on the Taliban and Al-Queda, and that's the war we're prosecuting now. The war in Afghanistan is most definitely legal.
The Iraq War's legal status is doubtful. But even if we are fighting an illegal war in Iraq, that's not to say that our presence in Afghanistan and Iraq is a bad thing.

Let me correct your statement and make it into one based on truth: "Russians fought MUJAHEDEENS EVERYWHERE... US soldiers can't fight Taliban since they can't find them or catch them". The difference between USA and Russia is that Russians would have won the war when their home political scene would have not been boiling.
