he's putting every ounce of his core being into this. Just getting it out. Kind of like stevie wonder's Living for the city. just putting every fiber of his being into singing this.
I loved this song but this mix I think is Mono. It's missing the background, strings flute, and the vocals. The song is a great prelude to early seventies soul as the sixties came to a close.
@timmy841212 Oh, my God, you're right! There are dozens and dozens of Motown hits with the most surprising people doing background. "My Baby Loves Me" should have been credited not to Martha and the Vandellas but Martha and the Four Tops. The album also includes the fabulous Tear It On Down and every track could have been a single.
A great Motown classic with all the elements in place, including a flute line similar to that in "Reach Out I'll Be There," great background vocals and a propulsive, cooking band playing a fabulous arrangement. The entire album ("In the Groove") is outstanding, was retitled "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." That's on the album plus a make-you-faint rendition of "Tear It On Down."
@waynebrasler Couldn't agree more Wayne. 'Cooking' is the perfect adjective to descibe the backing band. A supremely underrated Marvin classic. No nonsence!
I know a lot of ppl have heard this wonderful voice, There in so one who can ever match the sound of this most BEAUTIFU person, I LOVE YOU MARVIN.....R.I.P
@MzRicejohnson10 It's on an album called, "In the Groove," when I heard it through the grapevine became a hit single motown reissued it under the the name "I heard it through the grapevine"
@MzRicejohnson10 - You will find this (from 1967)on some of the early albums and on the later Motown Compact Command Performances "Marvin Gaye - 20 Greatest Hits" Volume 2 - Motown ZD72508
(1986).(Also later compilations possible)
