The first Ernie and Bert Skit with Steve Whitmire (as Ernie) was on Episode #2741 (Premiere of Season 22 of Sesame Street). And Steve Whitmire decided that Ernie can be used on the street seen (Just like in season 1 of Sesame Street). Kermit the Frog also appeared on the street seen as well.

First of all, the season premiere of Season 22 was 2746. And Steve didn't actaually become a SS muppeteer until the New Years special and the 25th season.

I know for a fact it was. It was the last new Henson Ernie skit I ever saw, and I was keeping very good track of the episodes in 1990. This skit was first seen in episode 2680. Jim Henson passed away around episode 2740
