I always makes me laugh when you hear people saying one unit is amazing but one is better. At the end of the day we are only human. you don't get human and then superhuman. In the end we are only as good as physically possible.
American SWAT are very good and are employed to deal with real armed stand-offs. In the UK the Armed Response Unit are not trained to the same level as SWAT but they have a more of a psychological effect on the suspect because it is very rare to see a British Policeman with a firearm. This scares the suspect and is usually enough for them to surrender.
@BulletFoss Thing is, UK armed officers are 2 tear, entry level AFOs, who do the car stops and low risk drug raids, also as part of diplomatic protection, but they have other training. Then SFOs, who are more or less the equivalent of SWAT in terms of training and what they do, and can deal with armed sieges, work with the flying squad, have trained snipers, high risk drugs raids. They are trained to use the H&K G36c, 750 round per min, 60 round mag, 5.56 rounds (NATO standard) similar to SA80.
And the ARV's are not that good - when I was in the Army, there were some police on the firing range before us, one of them left a chambered MP5 on the firing point. Needless to say our CSM chased the van and ripped the police officer (female) a new one!
Theres no such thing as swat in the uk. because obv here you cant go into a shop and buy one. for any americans that don't know that in the uk all firearms are banned and if you are found with one you get a life sentance. theres prob about 2 guns in each big city in the uk, and if the police do get a gun call we use the ERARV (Extremly Rapid Armed Response Vehical) which you see near the end of the video

English armed police officers used to be called SO15 and SO 19 (special operations) now they are called CO19 and CO15 (covert operations) They are known as armed officers not SWAT officers
Sorry to correct you here but English armed officers arn't know as CO19 etc... there are just solely know as armed officers. The CO19 is the name for the team, e.g Tango Victor 32 (TV32) CO19 the name for the specilist team soley in London, other constabularies have different names for their teams.
I live in Australia and we got SERT (Special Emergency Response Team) which is basically our equivilant to the American SWAT teams, I'm going to join SERT in the near future, been training for it since I was 13.
good luck =D! I heard the training is pretty intense, like you need to run 10km in under 45 minutes, be able to do 25 push ups, 15 chin ups and 100 sit ups (i think). Guess its kind of essential though when your chasing some guy while wearing kevlar, a balistics helmet + all your weapons, ammo and equipment

yeah thats pretty much the same with me. But running is one of the easiest things to progress in. All you need to do is go for a run a couple of nights a week and graduly increase the distance. How old are you at the moment (I'm 16)

well, the FBI Hostage Rescue Team and the British SAS both go to train with the Los Angeles County SWAT team, so I think there is cause to compare them. Just because they're civilians doesn't mean they aren't on the same level of professionalism as military units.

Um not really. The FBI has the best Hostage Rescue Team in the country, with LA SWAT a very close second. And what is the main activity of the SAS? Hostage rescue. They also do other special ops but if you want to learn how to rescue hostages, you train with the best your main ally has to offer, which for the SAS is the FBI
The SAS is a military establishment, the FBI is law enforcement, two completly different departments. The FBI might be the best in the country (United States) but the SAS is the best military unit in the WORLD. They do more special ops than hostage rescue, they assist the military all around the world, and do not often do operations in their own country. The FBI only has jurisdiction in the United States.

THEY did the job in Mogadishu after all (even SAS holds GSG9 in high favor; and the KSK is already highly rated after a few years), not the 2 SAS operatives. But all was based on SAS training thats right. And btw a few days ago they would have stormed a oil ship if the pliticians havent chickened out, so what?
Dear gsg9sek, I am german and as a matter of fact: GSG 9 and the KSK and btw. even famous Delta Force all are based on the SAS. And yes, SAS helped the GSG 9 back in Mogadishu und yes, mostly because GSG 9 wasn't trainined in flashbangs. But well, a SAS source (Jon E. Lewis in SAS Combat Handbook) states this so maybe he is boasting, but I doubt this. But GSG 9 and KSK are highly skilled and even SAS honor the KSK skills. But still SAS has the most experience.

The SAS have the toughest training, incredible skill, adaptability and determination.
Each and everyone of them would probably appear psychotic to a civilian.
They have the worlds finest operational record for a Special Forces Unit.
They can and have been be used in ALL environments Desert, Arctic, Mountain, Jungle, Conventional, CQB, Urban (FIBUA) and Civil ops (like in Northern Ireland).
The only people to match up are the British SBS (Special Boat Service)

I live in Australia and we got SERT (Special Emergency Response Team) which is basically our equivilant to the American SWAT teams, I'm going to join SERT in the near future, been training for it since I was 13.

good luck =D! I heard the training is pretty intense, like you need to run 10km in under 45 minutes, be able to do 25 push ups, 15 chin ups and 100 sit ups (i think). Guess its kind of essential though when your chasing some guy while wearing kevlar, a balistics helmet + all your weapons, ammo and equipment

good luck to you too mate! :), well the push ups and sit ups and chin ups are easy done, i do 100 sit ups, 50 push ups and 20 chin ups in my days training but im not sure about the run i havent done a run like that in a while :S lol

yeah thats pretty much the same with me. But running is one of the easiest things to progress in. All you need to do is go for a run a couple of nights a week and graduly increase the distance. How old are you at the moment (I'm 16)

They're both the top of their military branches, so it seems wrong to put either down as inferior to the other. The Air service, being Aerial, are easier to deploy than the Boat Service are. Also due to the Iranian Embassy Siege in 1980, the SAS are far more famous

Well the Iranian Embassy seige only helped to demystify the best kept military secret..that the English had a more elite force than the Para's or the RMC's...as for the ongoing debate on the whose the best SAS or SBS....we are to the most 'general public' and to to our knowledge what these guys do in both unit is classifed of the highest secrecy...so if you the SBS is sitting on boats doing nothing that only means that thier roles are being kept secret for thier safety!!!...give em all respect

Well guys all this talk about military elite forces are mis-placed when the vid is about civillian police units...you cannot compare the jobs that these guys...as they are restrained by differing rules..BUT CO19 have a tough job to do....but you cannot compare to SAS..SEALS...DELTA..PARA...RM...SASR...SPETZ...so guys lets just agree..elite forces are tough guys who if any of you knew them you wouldnt make such dumbassed comments

well, the FBI Hostage Rescue Team and the British SAS both go to train with the Los Angeles County SWAT team, so I think there is cause to compare them. Just because they're civilians doesn't mean they aren't on the same level of professionalism as military units.

Sorry mate i wasn't disputing the professionalism of either the civillian of the military branches...I was commenting the the 'endless comments' of who best...I was trying to say that each are the best at what they do in the areas that they work...and therefore shouldnt be compared as thier fields of operation differ greatly and is unfair to SWAT CO10 SAS SBS DELTA PARA's RMC's GREEN BERET's etc...lets just salute what these guys and support them whole heartedly

Um not really. The FBI has the best Hostage Rescue Team in the country, with LA SWAT a very close second. And what is the main activity of the SAS? Hostage rescue. They also do other special ops but if you want to learn how to rescue hostages, you train with the best your main ally has to offer, which for the SAS is the FBI

The SAS is a military establishment, the FBI is law enforcement, two completly different departments. The FBI might be the best in the country (United States) but the SAS is the best military unit in the WORLD. They do more special ops than hostage rescue, they assist the military all around the world, and do not often do operations in their own country. The FBI only has jurisdiction in the United States.

Who has heard of the blody KSK EVERY person in the world has heard of the SAS, when shit hit the fan at the Germany olympics, what happend? Did the KSK turn up? No the police stormed the building and got all the athletes killed. When shit happend in Somali yep, GSG9 were their, BUT THEY REQUESTED ASSISTANCE OF THE SAS TO TAKE BACK THE AIRCRAFT.

and the ksk cant help the german police. its because iur laws. the ksk can is only allowed to operate in afghanistan, not like the sas, thats a big difference. and the sas dont help the gsg9 in somalia!

'all military organisations'? Are you talking for yourself? Tell me the countrys GSG9 has helped out regaurding hostage rescues. Im sure if their was a hostage rescue situation GSG9 or KSK would step in to help. THE SAS ASSISTED THE GSG9 IN THE HOSTAGE RESCUE ATTEMPT IN SOMALI, THEY USED SOME OF THEIR EQUIPMENT AND THE SAS MEN WERE THE FIRST INTO THE AIRCRAFT.

cuz rescue in somalia.the sas dont help them. and there were only GERMAN SPECIALE POLICE UNITS (GSG9). NO BRITISH MEN. THE GERMAN GSG9 MAKE IT ALONE. dont think the sas is the only unit.and the gsg9 helped in france,nehterlands,belgium,etc.

Omdzzz, Two British SAS operatives Major Alistair Morrison and Sergeant Barry Davies took part in training the GSG9 before the assault and were first in on the assault, they also provided vital equipment such as flashbangs. Dear infrared, maybe you don't know a bit. GSG 9 is made after SAS, right. But they go in if a hostage situation is at hand or if there are high risks entrys and such things. THEY did the job in Mogadishu after all (even SAS holds GSG9 in high favor; and the KSK is already highly rated after a few years), not the 2 SAS operatives. But all was based on SAS training thats right. And btw a few days ago they would have stormed a oil ship if the pliticians havent chickened out, so what?

Dear gsg9sek, I am german and as a matter of fact: GSG 9 and the KSK and btw. even famous Delta Force all are based on the SAS. And yes, SAS helped the GSG 9 back in Mogadishu und yes, mostly because GSG 9 wasn't trainined in flashbangs. But well, a SAS source (Jon E. Lewis in SAS Combat Handbook) states this so maybe he is boasting, but I doubt this. But GSG 9 and KSK are highly skilled and even SAS honor the KSK skills. But still SAS has the most experience.

just because the SAS aer the most highly trained forces in the world, does not mean they are the most elite. for all you know there could be a secret milatary unit who could take out an entire SAS batalion with only 1 man. there are people out there who are the best. we just dont know who.

The SAS have the toughest training, incredible skill, adaptability and determination.
Each and everyone of them would probably appear psychotic to a civilian.
They have the worlds finest operational record for a Special Forces Unit.
They can and have been be used in ALL environments Desert, Arctic, Mountain, Jungle, Conventional, CQB, Urban (FIBUA) and Civil ops (like in Northern Ireland).
The only people to match up are the British SBS (Special Boat Service)
