Love that little frown on the beak. Hope the mum came to feed it. Nice video, good clarity and love the fact that you got right on the ground with it.
It's interesting how he doesn't stand up fully, as if he's still used to the more cramped conditions of the nest (dunno if that's the reason)! The shot is very good, by the way, the depth of field is most unusual for handycams, unless you set the focus to manual. Maybe because of the very short distance the autofocus created the depth of field. What kind of camera did you use?
@Theophilus200 I actually only used the video mode on a basic compact digital camera. If I remember well it was a Fuji Finepix F10, nothing fancy. Thanks for the nice comment!
We found one dead this morning in the garden :( sad site, after seeing the parents flying back and forth a number of times over the past few weeks to collect food for themselves and the chicks.
Ya,we have babies on the ground alot.doves,blackbirds,etc.We always leave them alone unless the neighbors cats are about, then I take them to the wildlife refuge in Yuma,Az.
People often believe that juvenile birds on the ground or under bushes "fell" out of the nest. This is not true. Young birds leave the nest before they can fly properly, being taken care of by their parents for some additional weeks. Tits are cave breeders so they cannot fall out of their nest. And of course birds can be touched, they have a weak sense of smell. So if you find young birds hopping around or hiding under bushes, leave them alone, their parents are taking care of them!
oh, you should have place it back to its nest if the partens were still near to keep feeding it! Otherwise CATS catch little birds that cannot fly yet...
that s not true! People used to think that and it doies apply with deer but not with birds!
Besides, there are wildlife and wildbirds organisations on the web who have local offices where you can leave a bird of which you cannot or do not want to take care and feed it yourself!
And animal doctors, at least in Germany, have to treat "wild" animals found FREE OF CHARGE!
Heh. I'm looking after a little fella like this now, but he's still a little flesh-bag with no feathers. I hope he makes it to this level to look like a little old-man blue-tit
i am absolutely desperate about what happened to the baby chick after the filming... did u manage to bring him back up to his home??? he was not hurt was he?
ah...good to hear this, I was worried.....there are, by the way, wild bird saving organisations everywhere and one can also bring small birds of which one cannot take care onesself there for them to take care of the birds and feed them with the proper insect or formula food... just in case you should again come across such a sweet feather thing! :-)

and if you touched it, its mum wouklld reject it and throw it out its nest. so it's best to leave it.
Unless the mum doesn't come back before night. then you can either stay awake 24/7 feeding it. OR let a cat eat it.
