  • @jaredrums93 ....Again, that's just how I feel it may have been......a guess of course......he's very humble and appreciative of his fans for sure!....I used to take lessons from him and he used to let me bring people over for the lessons to his place...just a nice guy......He's my biggest influence for sure....check out Shadrane; Temporal, Morpheus and Lanterns Dance here......Gregg played on most of the cd.....very progressive w/some odd times...........One of my favorite cd's he's worked on.

  • @jaredrums93 .....I cant speak for Gregg...But I have seen Gregg 100+ times and at times it seems like he's looking right through you (or me)....I think he gets tunnel vision sometimes when he's in his zone.....also at a clinic, to get into detail w/every question would take a long time....when i go to see him (2 gigs in a few weeks)...he comes over, talks w/me, my friends and wife...moves on to other tables of people there to see him...then comes by again....just the life of a popular drummer!

  • @jaredrums93 ........HAHA..........I have known Gregg for 20+ year and nobody has EVER said a bad word about him........EVER??.........dont just bable w/not reason or facts.................lets have your story of what makes him an asshole?

  • i love the guys face in the background

  • It is very rare that you find a drummer with that first name who spells it with 2 Gs... right??? or am I taking crazy pills here??

  • I had the pleasure of meeting him at B.S.U

    For "day of percussion"

He gave me a pare of his Vic firth stick and he signed them

  • @Jlkdrummer pair

  • @immaculatus

If you knew how to play any kind of instrument and were really into it, you would be making face too. If you're jealous, keep it to yourself!

  • Technically impressive, but unmusical as hell

  • @ReesFlynnMusic

If you can't say anything nice, don't bother! You must not know anything about music !

  • @misskbissonette Every person is allowed their opinion, and freedom of speech allows me to express this... I did not say that this was not good, and your comment offends me... but you can not say this is not, as musicians say "not musical" ... this means it is very impressive technically, but it is not dynamic, subtle... it is just double bass and technical...

  • He fully expresses himself he's talent. legend drummer!

  • HE IS THE MILK!!!!

he doesn't give a shit, who's the best drummer, he only plays to feel the music

  • this was completely amazing

  • there are some nice ideas for a metal-drum-solo or some breaks with the going through double bass

  • Wow, this guy made me want to play drums back in the day, now, this video will be played on my "cant fall asleep nights", I better hurry now, this shit was boring

  • @Libsdontcareee Hi troll.

  • I know what it is about the sound of his snare drum he used at this concert. To me, it sounds dead, like it wasn't tuned very well. Please don't take this as a criticism on Gregg or to say I claim to know everything about drumming, but what are other people's opinion on Gregg's snare drum?

  • Kind overkills the 2x bass stuff tho... I dunno... just is odd.

  • all the best drummers look like someone kicked them in the balls when they find there groove

  • awesome drumming man.

  • Idont like but if he is the best ....i dont know

  • HAHA LOVE HIS FACE!

  • good, but still has nothing on weckl or chris coleman

  • @drums1078 SO? Who cares? Why do you have to compare? Why not just like it and STFU?

  • Wow! Watching him play with David Lee Roth all those years...who knew he could actually play? Same thing with Max Weinberg. He didn't impress me at all when he was with Springsteen, but when I saw him on Conan, he blew me away. well don,e Gregg!

  • sloppy foot work

    but still pretty nice

  • Farr-out! Now this is really drumming! Awesome! Thnks for posting!

    peace;]

  • kick ass snare !

  • Great job cuz.......Ed Bissonette

  • In a world of drummers, Greg is so often overlooked for his severe talents. he is simply amazing!!!!

  • His facial expression shows that he must be taking an epically large crap

  • @MelRules911 1:19 suggests its been let out.

  • fuckin hell he's good!!!! eat shit joey jordison.

  • @sparkles67 for sure man this kills it

  • @sparkles67 Most professional drummers can beat Jordison!

  • he totally raped that splash, eh?

  • hell yeah !

one of the greatest ever !

  • Just saw him today at alpas : )

    He's real funny

  • that china is shocking

  • More double pedal. Yea he can play double-bass but then again so can so many drummers... double-pedal is so damn boring I wish drummers would leave it alone and be more creative without it instead of depending on it for entire solos...

  • @skeptic91 Thank you!! at least someone agrees that double pedal shouldn't be relied on all the time. It's good not to use it so you can get your single foot technique good enough that you won't need two pedals. I mean yeah if you're a metal drummer ten by all means use it, but not all the time...

  • a Christian playing with love, an amazing technique and with a wonderful and generous soul = Gregg Bissonette

one of the humblest people I've ever met.

  • it wouldnt matter if he wasnt a christian...

  • hes fucking awesome man

  • I saw Gregg last night w/David Garfield and they sounded great. Compared to how Gregg played last night, I don't think anything on Youtube does him justice. Stuff on youtube is really good, but w/Garfiel he always seems to be at the top of his game. His kit sounded great...it was deep w/a great punch/attack. One song was in 11/8 and was pretty intense. Alot of deep pocket groove stuff as well as a lot of Latin/Funk feels. The whole band was great. John Pena is an incredible bass player too.

  • Awesome! He can't help but to go back to The Dave Lee Roth days. Elephant Gun!

  • I find he really does not implement his double playing well at all.

  • ya it's a little sloppy

  • agreed. listen at 1:09, starts to get sloppy

  • what size is his bass drum? it sounds awsome

  • i think he needs to be more creative in his soloing

  • didnt really like the solo but the grooving at the end is good

  • BRUTAL

  • I'm not a Christian, and I like Gregg's energy and drumming.......end of discussion

    yay for drumming!

  • I just realized that Metal drumming is driven from Jazz drumming!!!

  • Nothing special that I can see.

  • u must be blind or retarded then

  • And you must've failed school. I've seen much better drumming then this, so, like I said, there's nothing special here.

  • Gregg's obviously a great drummer but there's something about him that makes me feel uncomfortable watching him He always looks like he's on the verge of f**king up! Never seems effortless and almost like he's pushing his limits 5% above his capabilities.... is it just me?

  • yes it is just you

  • He's very angry at that splash cymbal @ :49 j/k

Gregg Bissonette is awesome, VERY musical!

  • Jezuz folks... I dropped in here to see some great drumming - which this is and fuck me, some god bothering fuckwits have infultrated this as well as everything else in this world. Please, please leave your mindless religion out of music people. Thankyou.

  • SO my point is this, Everything under the Sun is meaningless...MEANING if it's not about seeking God, in Jesus Christ then...DOH!

Todays UNDERSTATEMENT! Now you've been told, you know you're growing old. If it ain't about Jesus, itsnot about ANYTHING.

IFOUNDIT and IT is awesome, I have personal PROOF that Jesus Christ is God. What if you were to die BOOM, now? Will He say, "Depart from Me, for I never know you?"

Again, all I can say for you is Oopsie!

Sorry I went off. Snot really! lol

  • you have NO proof, shut the hell up.......excercise some manners, and keep your beliefs to yourself,,,,,,

this is about drumming, not Zombie Jesus

    shut your trap

  • Sounds Easy for some reason. yet I know I have a WAYS to go

OH, that AND I once freed a bee from my windshield wiper. Oh check out the Marine that throws the puppy off of the cliff. OOPSY! ! !

  • I think what you may have forgotten to mention is that Ears also wears a doctor prescribed helmet, because he is mentally stunted, a fucking moron if you will

I'll go ahead and clear this up for you. If you added up all the sessions Bissonette has done, the clinics he's performed, and the drummers he's inspired, I can guarantee they would exceed the amount of times you have even thought of doing something with your life.

I think you should go to the woodshed and put Ears out of his misery.

  • who knew I'd one day see you on youtube when were drumming on your desk at Beer (junior high)

  • One of the least musical drummers to ever become well known.

  • We all have our opinions.....................even if they are Very Funny ones. I have seen Gregg play live 100+ times; rock, jazz, fusion, latin, swing and more.............he know's what he is doing by far. To say Gregg is not musical is like saying Virgil knows nothing about double bass. Gregg's career has been about being musical, versatile, team player and a drummer w/great feel and emotion. You cant deny the career he has made........Name means nothing if he cant back it up in his playing.

  • Gregg is one of THE nicest musicians I have had the pleasure meeting!

  • same he actually a stand up guy, it was pretty nice 2 see that hes that successful n stil acts like a regular old guy

  • i think its quite a melodic solo...thats the winner

  • Undoubtedly a truly great drummer, but he always seems to look as though someone kicked him in the balls when he finds his groove.

  • @deuce1231

    lol

  • @deuce1231 That's what made him one of the best drummers, skilled and funny at the same time!

  • hi is my Mentor ..the best...

  • to get back to MUSIC for a second, does anyone know what that tune is that he's playing ?

  • very unusual solo very nice!

  • What a monster player! Chops and feel.

  • Comment removed

  • and you have what .. a degree in sociology ... psychology ... mind reading ? .... shutup you fucking pompous ass

  • He has a brain!

  • spettacolare!!!!

  • rrdrums110 your a douche bag

  • 1st of this guy is awesome! lol

    and

    the faces he makes XD

    they are so weird lol

  • i met gregg at a drum clinic...he is a very nice guy

  • i agree. i met him years ago right before he went on tour with roth. he was extremely gracious, kind and friendly...

  • Very cool guy, definitely an entertainer.

  • @619fanrip i just met him today at a drum clinic too. he is super nice and is super talented at the drums

  • @619fanrip my dads good friends with him, they playe din a band together in highschool, n now gregg played on my older bros cd that he made, he wrote the music for and everyhintg, u should check it out, its called hands on by mark nilan jr.

  • chill people chill.

  • and finally Mickey.. i know you are'nt retarded. But you know I wrote that I moved out of La but my son is there. Therefore he wants to keep studying so hence Greg. You are obviously trying to hurt my feelings through my sons relationship now. That makes you a insecure snake to me.You obviously have some kind of unpromoted torch to carry for gregg who doesn't pay your bills. You look like him?emulate him have identity through him vicariously. Be yourself..don't bother writng me. I don't like you

  • I actually find it funny that you avoid the question and the fact you have two entirely different thing to say about Gregg. One very negative and one very positive. But you are afraid to stand up for contradictory comments. Thats all i was really curious about. And how am I insecure when you are the one making comments about a lot of drummers her that are famous and you aren't. You said your son knows your better then Gregg? Thats not insecure? We don't know it, so who are you proving it to?

  • I have known him for 19 years and taken many lessons. I know how much he is respected as a very capable well rounded, humble & friendly drummer. Like I said you started ripping him over ONE solo, and his grip......and I'm insecure?.....Then you say be yourself............but think drummer A that plays matched should be like drummer B and play traditional......is that being them selfs? REALLY, be a man and just tell us why you talk out of both side's of your face. Your not on medication are you?

  • I haven't played out much in the last 5 years and yeah I wished it weren't the screwed up world that is is. so yeah I miss playing live music. I have been famous in my less than star status circle but I guarantee you when i do play live i don't care where people i don't even know want my autograph everytime and people always want to buy me drinks and ask me what am i doing here?Like Jimmy page said"fame is nothing but luck" and I wasn't lucky that way. Is that a good or bad thing?Neither

  • To Mickey.. alright he's had a twenty year career and a good one. So bfd. yes he's a solid pro drummer and a good one. Not the best far from it. Like I told you after I left LA my son started going to him (he knows I'm better) For the last time the grip coincides w/the all time best in the business. Factoid and unchangeable. You obviously don'y play it but can't defend why not. It simply is the best grip for the weak hand hundreds of years can't be wrong nor can buddy tony billy joe gene

  • The last posts you said he was a good pro, well rounded and made a good career. But first said he was not a pro drummer to be looked up to. So which is it? You don't like Neil obviously and he changed his grip going on 20 years ago. Did it make him better? You could be way better then Gregg. But who knows...your son story says it all....and its eating you alive..pushing 60 and your son would rather have Gregg as a teacher then you. All matched grip :^) Every ones famous but U!...and it kills U.

  • Mickey.. I just responded to the other message at Buddy Rich. You are right just one of those forgettable moments. No big deal. No, I don't base adrummers creds on solo work alone .Far from it. There are so many layers to the onion. The grip for me is that I'm older and when I began yes it was because of matched grip Ringo. But no drum teachers would teach that. They were all old scholl. Now in history imo the very best always played that way primarily and then picked matched up later . me too.

  • It sounds exactly like what you said, (in your words, not mine) you said he shouldn't be looked up to based on this solo. You didn't mention anything about his 20+year career in drums; Just this. Doesn't make sense. Are you saying Gregg, Simon Phillips, Rod Morgenstein, Marco Minnimen for example are not good cause of a grip? And Neil Peart is Excellent at what he does, even if it's not at Weckl's level. How many drummers would love to be like Neil (drums/career) and how many want to be you?

  • Ho hun another bass drum dribble solo. absolutely most non musical drum solo candidate ever. Was there one ounce of emotion? Dynamics? Phrasing was as many notes per bar every bar. This is a reknowned pro drummer to idolize. I don't think so. Oh yeah as usual for todays guys except weckl no traditional grip which is always points off for mt traditional jazz thinking

  • Its one of hundreds he gets to do. So its not one of his best solo's.....life goes one. But are you really saying we should Idolize drummers for their solo's? Gregg is not the well known drummer he is today because of solo's. Look at his credits as a DRUMMER not as a drum solo player. He's a top studio drummer for a reason.

And why should he use a grip because someone else does? Is that really a reason not to like a drummer? How bout the angle of the mounted tom? That at least to your standards?

  • I highly appreciate Gregg Bissonette as a drummer - he was one of my idols some years ago. But it seems as if his solos allways sound a bit the same

  • with out the double bass its easy

    yer i totoly concour

  • What a shitty solo! Without the double bass pedal it's just nothing!

  • I got to play with him at the Berklee Jazz Festival. I even helped take his symbols and bags into his hotel room. Haha! I sang with him and it was great fun. He is such a down-to-earth guy!

  • I went to this guy's clinic on Saturday at the Berklee Jazz Festival, he's amazing. I also saw Teri Lyne Carington and the Blackwell guy. Oh yeahhh Westbrook jazz 1 got 3rd :)

  • i met this guy yesterday at a drum clinic. he's so talented and also such a great down to earth guy.

  • was it at Berklee??

  • yeah. it was.

  • nice one !

  • his brother is the bassist matt bissonette :O ?

  • yes , he is great too !!!

  • es un hermoso solo de bateria...

    es un grande

    aguante gregg bissonette

    me gustaria conocerlo algun dia

    TOCCICITY

  • that double stroke roll on the snare drum was just awesome

  • buenisimoooooo

  • he looks like he has downes when he plays lmao

  • Saw a Gregg's clinic years ago in Italy, it was the shit !

Gregg is da fuckin man !

  • I love his playing, but he need to go back to playing pearl drums.

  • Dont know if he has to go back, but I also liked his Pearl's. I have a brass free floating snare I got from gregg years ago after he left pearl and its the best snare I have ever owned. I also got to play on his Skyscraper black/white kit at his place.

  • I got to talk to him today!!! and get a pic with him, and get some drum sticks from him!!

  • Watch the ELO clip (Here on YouTube) where he is the drummer in the 2001 tour. Look for the "Turned to Stone" video.

  • goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood

  • Thats right........cause guys that are all about being as fast as possible aren't boring at all.

  • LOL! Good one!

  • Quote!

  • Sean is one of the best without question, and yes....he pulls the some comedy faces too

  • Ah crap sorry meant to say greg, thats I get for posting whilst drunk

  • this guy isn't half bad.

I get to go to one of his workshops this weekend.

  • I bet you thought he was pretty fucking badass after the workshop eh? i went to one and got an sm57 from him a long time ago.

  • Greg is awesome. He makes the best faces to lol.

  • It's just that;A solo. Gregg is my favorite drummer. And true it is not one of his best. I have seen him better. The pattern at 1:07 definatly had a rhythm to it. He is a monster Musician and Team player thats always working. There are guy that are great players that may not be great solo players. Gregg is definatly a smooth player. But we all have our bad days. And by saying you dont want to be like Gregg;Studio drummer, touring drummer, clinician, voted #4 all around drummer and humble? Then what?

  • Well, then play a great drum solo, record it and post it here...what are you waiting for?

  • well, if you are better than post a video so we can all see. and if not, than stop posting stupid comments.

  • fucking good:D ale koleś cierpi chyba....sądząc po jego mimice ;p

  • gotta love it

  • woah?!?,,,i didnt send that to u bro...it was probably my dumb ass freind on here talking trash like always....

sorry about that...i was confused for a second

it sounds good to me...i dont know what my friend was thinking,,

like i said sorry again for the inconvinience

  • Just to let you know. Thats very funny. A Pro getting advice from a nobody. Because he's not doing warp speed doesn't equal sloppy. It may not have been your favorite, but it wasn't sloppy. At 1:07 he starts a beat that goes Right hand, left foot, left hand and right foot. Its not that easy. And again, not sloppy.

  • no, he was right, his feet are some times sloppy, and it has nothing to do with speed.

  • Im glad you confirmed it. We can all rest easy now that we have your take on things.

He does two's and three's w/his feet. He doesn't try and push out more then that. The beat at 1:07 is not a quad. Its a R hand, L foot, L hand R foot pattern. It kinda tricky. But I didn't see anything sloppy about it. And remember, Its part of a solo that can go in any direction.

  • Who's the fat guy behind him?

  • That's Brian Piper and he's one of the baddest keyboard players around, which is why he's on the program playing with all those great drummers. Not British though. From Dallas.

  • is he british?? :S his face seems like one :D

  • it was good but there was nothing really to it,

  • Greg does an awesome clinic. I just saw him on the 17th and he blew my mind!

  • uh huh your face is as red as a tamatoe

  • wicked dudee rash face

  • So shit! You need to see the new people that have it like Dave Dicenso!!!! Now that is what its all about.

Not this old shit, he has was doing this shit 10 years ago for soloing. sorry.

  • I liked Greg when he was playing with David Lee Roth. Check his playing out on "Shy Boy"

  • wurlybird9 you are a fucking idiot... fucking asshole.... motherfeucker....87f45t9857tn9853ng9v85g98ub396g8ub936gijb

  • whoa dude...relax. Do you like, own him, or something? There's 90 other comments to choose from. Perhaps what irks you, is that mine is concise and fitting. btw, what type of drugs were you on? I'd like to know what type of substances I should avoid.

  • WOW...DAMN...SHEESH!

  • do do do do

  • Go Greg Go!!!!... Lol

  • I take drum lessons from this dude. Hes one of my church pastors or pastoress(if theres such thing) husband. great guy.

  • cool...

  • I will agree with a lot of people saying that this solo doesn't have much soul. But I disagree with people who say he's bad. He is one of the most diverse drummers alive today and to have ever existed. This solo doesn't harness his talent, but watch this guy swing. He plays every genre and plays them well.

  • Being my favorite drummer, I have to agree. I find it funny for anyone to say he is bad. How could a guy make a living and be in demand as a studio drummer and be bad? It just wont happen. You may not like his solo's or people he has played with, but to say he is bad is very silly. He was know as a rock drummer due to David Lee Roth's gig. But now read any article about him and the first sentence or two are about how well rounded he is in different styles. Does that equal bad?

    I think not.

  • I agree. He's got great chops.

  • double bass orgy....no creativity...sorry thumbs down

  • Play better than him than if your going to whine.

  • My comment actually pertains to the video. What purpose does yours serve?

  • To point out your stupidity.

  • Amasing how many red thumbs i got just for saying my opinion. :D

i watched this again, still crappy.

  • I partly agree with you... he is in deed very techni
