  • check out my channel for more how-to's

  • I'd fuck her.

  • No pro, way to dangerous!

  • I will never understand why people make horizontal slices on onions. I've seen pros and novices cut an onion like this, but those those cuts are already there! The onion's layers provide horizontal "slices" for us.

  • great intro and video ...

  • You make the vertical slices first, but ok...

  • nice ! !

  • Great to-the-point video. Thanks!

  • dont pay much attention on the 'gasp' between EACH word. Or else you will go crazeh

  • @CodeTheName FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU... D: JEEZUS I NEVER REALISED :O

  • Do not cut towards your fingers.

  • i wanna cut like this

  • I liked your how to chopping onion, I have never seen in that way before. A helpful and great video, thanks a lot.

  • Get Naked already...

  • You are really good. Very organized, concise, and articulate. Thank you very much. Good basic info.

  • If the Chimpanzee don't eat Onions, we don'rt eat Onions!!!

  • Thank you very much for posting this. I seriously never was taught knife skills and you are exactly right that proper knife skills are a must. Most people don't know how to use a knife for cutting vegetables etc. Thank you so much for this video - very helpful.

  • @eeploo there are better videos on youtube to learn from. the "college chef" guy did a better vid (as far as technique is concerned). this ones still alright, though.

  • Yes, a sharp knife would be good. I get nervous watching this.

  • I must confess I'M DOMESTICALLY DISABLE!!!! But you give me hope :)

  • a good trick to stop crying while cutting onions is to put a spoon in your mouth. it blocks your sinuses.

  • @theliberator1 haha i like that one

  • @SuperTeenaB ask someone for a bucket of steam, if you're working on a prject, and then watch them turn on the kettle.

  • i like it but you know you are wasting onion at its room and stem

  • That's how the japanese do it!

  • great vid

  • @mrskalila Thankyou:)

  • if you pay attention to your breaths everytime you finish a sentence, it's really quite distracting.

but good video none the less

  • Great Advice. Thank you.

  • this chick should get a show on foodtv

  • I cut onions pretty much everyday. You do NOT need to do the horizontal cuts at all! Onions are already layered, so just the vertical cuts will do. I also do not WASTE a whole chunk near the root or stem.

  • So much hating going on in these comments, and none of you thought about the people who never cooked a meal on their own and would like to see basic videos like these, or the teenager who's parent passed away and now has to feed themselves or siblings and needs to learn the basics.

Quit condemning someone who's doing a public service. Remember, you were also ignorant in the beginning, and someone had to teach you the basics.

    Thanks for the advice Dani!

  • @MyCasualName that is absolutely right!!!!

  • Nice melons, I mean onions.

  • :) thx for the help

  • I don't care for onions, but at least I know how to chop one, thanx.

  • thankyou

  • And Rachel Ray was trying to be like Martha Stewart. Broad connections may be made just about anywhere.

  • And Martha Stewart was trying to be like Satan. It all comes together now!

  • And Satan was trying to be like Chuck Norris. Too bad he got Roundhoused the instant he even thought about it.

  • good tip about leaving the root end in tact. It's less strain on your hands to keep the onion palmed while you cut.

  • wow thats complicated for notin ....

  • Also...The sharper the knife, the less crushing at the cellular level...which equals less flavor loss and less fumes released to cause tears.

  • Oh Dani, I have been trying to cut onions since I was a poor little child, but now after this revolutionary videomovie I can do it all by myself. You are so intelligent and sexy.

  • Actually the vertical cut is unnecessary since the onion already has layers which will make nice dices anyway.

  • You mean horizontal right?

    I agree.

  • yea i also agree with that one. lol

  • For consistent product, especially smaller than 1/4", the horizontal cuts are absolutely necessary. If you don't cut horizontal the pieces come out concave, especially closer to the root, and don't cook at the same rate as the pieces that are more like cubes.

What I hate to see is how she made the horizontal cuts. The sawing motion is absurd. Start with the heel of the knife and draw back, one smooth motion and it's done. Repeat 2-3 times depending on onion size.

  • You don't "have" to chop an onion this way. There are other ways to chop onions. If you want to make a video on ways to speed up cooking prep time, why don't you talk about proper utensils? I believe having a nice sharp knife is the fastest way to chop an onion.

  • thanks :) good tip

  • Now I know why my onion is alway nmessy ..I always cut the Root -.-" ty ^^

  • how do you cut an onion into "noons"?

  • Isnt that a diced onion?

  • Dice, chop, dance around naked and cut the onion while holding the knife with your toes...what's the difference!;b

  • When I go to the supermarket I c alot of different types of onions. How do I know which onion to buy for what I,m cooking ? For example if I'm cooking meat, cabbage, cornbeef, etc.

    Thanks,

  • Your best bet is white onions. Storage onions, like the yellow ones, are more durable but can smell horrible when cooked with some ingeredients. Myan/Sweet onions are nice, but more sensitive to temperature. Purple Onions are good for adding color without much change in flavor. Most of my menu uses either white or purple onions. Very few yellow onions... very few. They are much cheaper however.
