Hey for all you complaining about his "terrible dead stick landing" your wrong...a jet has extremely high stall speed and with his position he could glide it ALL the way for a down wind cross wind then final approach...what he did was the best decision he probably could've made.
oh shit here comes mr. smart ass crazydale hey we dnt care that u flew a boomerang turbine jet cus i dnt give a rats ass nd they guy is a shitty lander ahaaha
Oh God, I can't believe Im even going to comment here. You think a Boomerang is anything like an F-18?? You get ONE, I repeat, ONE turn with a flamed out bug! Thats it!
Haha. Interestingly, it was radio interference that continued for more than 2 seconds and shuts the engin down. It's a safety design in these things (which is probably a good thing).
Ah.... That's no good. I haven't been in the hobby for a while but I am sure that for such an expensive model there are expensive tranceivers on signals that don't interfere. Maybe not though.
you should start rc fly rc, maybe one day you will be able to pay you a turbine and fly this kind of toy
by the way, either the structure could be lost in that crash, I don't think the turbine suffered a lot, a bearing change and a good cleaning should fix it
Before I was able to do my wings test (granted it wasn't with a jet, it was a trainer) I had to practise Dead Stick landings.
When it happens, and it will, it's best to never get your hopes up if you didn't manage to land it safely on the field. Even if it looks safe from a distance, there's always something that could have happend on impact.
yer but these jet are so heavy that as soon as the motor cuts out they go down there not gliders he put in full elevator but just stalled it but he done every thing he could but i would not turn the jet it into trees but anyway..
RC pilots are not flying at extremely high altitudes so when a problem occurs, they have seconds to make a decision. Sometimes they work out, and sometimes they don't. He did a great job I think.
well, yes your right, speed brakes were not good, but a boomberang so lightly wing loaded compared to a scale bird, its a trainer, Ive flown one 2, love it so much. An F-16 lands about 10-15mph faster then boomerang and the f-18 is about 5-15mph then that, up to 40mph landings full of fuel. If I had this jet I would not want to rish a slow landing it drop a tip and roll. You have got to think of wing loading, that spped brake left off could ahve let him get turned away from trees at least though
I don't think that some of you guys understand a RCturbine, when its 3grand to 15grand it makes you nervouse when thay flame out, and on top of that these thing are like really expensive rocks when theres no power no matter the speed.I think an F-18would be in worst side of this because it uses such a flare on landing from what I see.And it would be a bad idea in my opinion just to push the nose down and quickly bring it back, that could cause a very fast tip stall with the wing design this has.
Hi, i actually think he made a bad decision there, with the speed he was going he could definatly made another circuit and landed, now you're going to say well how would you know, i know because i've flew a boomerang turbine jet and unfortunatly flamed out on takeoff and i managed to do a circuit and land again, all in one bit. So i think him deploying his speed brakes was the first mistake he made, trying to land there was also bad judgment. Rate me bad or whatever, i'm aloud my own opinion
You could have pushed the aileron down to gain speed for landing then quickly turned around and pulled up. It would have been like a normal landing. I suppose when you are in a situation like that you forget about these things in a way...
I don't think the owner was flying. The guy flying is supposed to be pretty good and I can't really have a go at him as it was so quick between engine shut down and landing. However if it had been me it was easy to hear the engine shut down as it was over the runway and the aircraft had heaps of airspeed at that time so I would have continued around flared and landed on the runway.
It all depends on the decisions made in split seconds. This was an expensive one
i'm the owner of this model, its an f-18c hornet, 2.2m long (7ft) weighs about 13kg + fuel and flys at 280kph. it definatly did not run out of fuel, the radio control suffered interference and is programmed to stop the engine if it goes for more than 2 sec. it has been repaired and has flown again (8 times) and feels as good as new. thanks for all the kind comments. look into the hobby, its very rewarding!
from my experience with the hobbie i wonder if it didn't run out of fuel. these things do not run very long and alot of them carry an extra tank on the wing.
The video just doesn't do justice to the sickening crunch noise as it hits the tree then does an endo and smacks it's self vertically into it. heart breaking. good vid though.

I hate the most of the stupid cameraman (women) who stops shooting after a big event, this is annoying and shows lack of creatism.
bad luck for the pilot, great flight bad movie

@kalliber5 - Didn't stop shooting. Cut it on the edit desk as there was nothing to see except trees and people walking towards it.

id have thought someone flying a large expencive rc jet would have thought about EVENTUALITIES before flying ?
plan ahead and get some proper experiencewith dead stick and this could have been properly avoided!

i see no reason for the crash at all. he had plenty of speed to pull off and land it. oh well, hope you had insurance.

Was there an NTSB investigation? I bet they would just conclude that the operator was at fault. Fuel requirements or something.

Bloody tree, why did it have to grow right there?
The plane came down rather well, it was that sudden stop at the end that did it in.

with a jet its hard to dead stick but i think your right he probley could have dead sticked that in to a landing a little better

i think the dead stick would of been 1/2 ok if there wasn't a wall of tree's there.
