Also, I was not aware the deceased Mr. Addams would or could feel anything over this movie, since even when he was alive, he wanted to escape the typecasting that Maxwell Smart/Agent 86 had put his career into. As well, Steve Carell conveyed Max's bumbling very well, and was quite funny as Max-it was just a different kind of funny the than original show. If you couldn't see past that...

Maybe its because Carell himself made it a point NOT to try and emulate Don Adams. He himself said that he would NEVER be able to match what Don Adams brought to Maxwell Smart and thus decided to make the character his own. After seeing the movie, I actually liked what he did with the character. He actually made Maxwell Smart-smart. He was clumsy and bumbly sure, but not in such an extreme as in the tv show. In the movie he is actually a very competent field agent of CONTROL. I liked that.
