I loved Zyn, but I kinda left it after I got a new computer and went with Win7. I used Zyn on Linux... sadly there isn't a great VST of it yet so it doesn't really flow well with my workflow. And I really don't feel like doing backwards stuff to render stuff from it. Someone really needs to get this thing a proper VST GUI...
My problems with Zyn VST: The old one Nasca released couldn't be opened for more than one instance- the one VDX released makes my Synapse Orion unresponsive. menu wise.
I need to figure out why this keeps crashing on my LMMS. It is so much better than the triple oscillator (which is still good).
Every time I open up the virtual keyboard and start playing it goes down. I've been having random crashes with LMMS though, so it could be related to that.
@johngeetar there is a rather current dssi version which you could search for, but you can't edit patches in it afaik, only load prebuild patches. also you'll need a licence, because dssi-support is only in beta right now (dunno when official build will come out).
If renoise crashes upon selecting jack as audio out you should report this bug on the renoise forums, since there's likely something wrong with your setup.
@Hassan1der1Waise Cool thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I opted to throw another hard drive in and dual boot to windows. I just can't find enough to work with under linux as far as instrumentation goes.
Great tutorial. I have a big question/favor to ask. How can i get the waveforms to change between each press of a key on my MIDI controller? waveform1, waveform2, waveform3, and so on, continuously altering with each press of a key. I'd love to be able to get the sound moving around like that, but haven't figured it out yet. Any suggestions you could offer?
I have a little problem that I can't figure out. I don't have a midi keyboard, so when I'm in the simple user interface mode I use my computer keyboard to play notes. But then when I switch to advanced mode I don't know how to play a note, my computer keyboard stops working for note playing =( Is there anything I can press to play notes? Thanks
nvm, found it, I must be blind. For anyone who encounter the same problem just click instrument on top and select virtual keyboard.. Thanks for this tutorial, it helps a lot =)
Ignore the ratings, I got this on my own videos.. It seems there are some commercial software synth vendors that really hate that there is a software synth in open source that kicks their collective asses. So they come in here and vote the videos down hoping people will ignore it.
I just installed the windows port. Have you EVER heard how amazing the choirs are? I'm in love. I've never heard such beautiful choirs from a softsynth. What is trully amazing, is that these are also generated, no samples. I'm using Reaper 2.58 and the (old) windows 2005 port. Trully amazing
"ask yourself: what synth would jesus use?" hahaha
the trick to getting a good supersaw is to add as much freakin' chorus as possible. then add more. to make it sound nice and big, put some delay or reverb on it. short portamento sounds good too, especially on the high notes.
how do you record with it though? all i can figure out to do is record a sloppy track with the record button on advanced interface and make some half-assed one-track bit. i've tried using a DAW but still found it very difficult to synchronize everything decently

@all Please check out the videos from the user zynaddsubfx, it's Paul himself afaik, the guy who created this little soundwonder.
He makes some beautiful patches in his videos.

Is there a way to patch this into renoise without using jack? Everytime I select jack as the audio my renoise crashes.

ZynAddSubFx is definitly a fullblown replacement for an Access Virus. This synthesis mode that the video author uses is not as impressive though,

Its true, the interface is horrible, floating stuff everywhere.
But the engine(s) are powerful and once you get to understand one or two things it becomes an enjoyable software.

I mean to ask, do you know how to make a wobble bass in zynaddsubfx?

I beg to differ. The GUI is pretty crappy, but you can't complain with the pure OWNAGE of the synth itself.

The only downside to this synth is that it isn't being actively developed anymore..

in jack control, connect the output of zyn to our daw and then monitor output of daw to output of the soundcard. HTH

Download LMMS. It has zynaddsubfx included as an instrument. Use LMMS's sequencing functions to render a full song.
