Just bought my first Porsche.A 911sc Cabriolet 1983 Grand Prix White.I cannot believe it has taken me so long to buy a classic Porsche. These cars are unbelievable with amazing handling, huge amounts of power and that classic 911 sound. The best car I have ever driven!!!.
Back in the day, we called them "whale tales". And furthermore, when he honked the horn I was thinking of the Kraftwerk song, "...the fun, fun, fun of the Autobahn!"
@sydneyfc the turbo wing would be available on the turbo look targas (wide body) but not on the targa he has here. Also should be a front spoiler to balance out the rear spoiler for aerodynamics. I have a 911 carrera 3.2 with factory spoilers, but it's not the heavy thing shown here.
@harshmoon69 actually the turbo wing was available as a "sport" option from the factory, including on narrow-body cars : this wing always came together with the front lip/spoiler to maintain aerodynamic balance.
@sydneyfc Well, I guess if the wiper is there, it should be original. Not 100% sure though. In my opinion, the whale tale or the ''ashtray'' does not look so good, especially on a targa version.
Just bought an 1980 SC with only 56000 miles ifor my wife in the rare petro blue. Its an amazing car in great condition, we were fortunate to find one in this shape. Just saving to put in the carrera chain tensioner upgrade, its a must.
well true, i dont know how many miles u have on your car...you'd have to decide if the difference in rebuilding the engine is going to be worth maintaining original value vs. a 3.0 SC motor and the loss in resale value...you'd probably come out even on it (once again, depending on overall condition of the car). Maybe keep the core, do a swap, and rebuild the 3.0 Carrera motor on the side?
Very nicely put together video giving a lot of good info and you obviously love and know your 911s well but pleeaase, the 'e' in Porsche is not silent and Fuchs sounds a bit like fooks not fewshh or whatever. Common mistakes I know but they really do assault the ears if you speak German. Splendid stuff though and you are rightly known as a top 911 man.
Very nice car.

@sydneyfc Its an optional extra that at its time cost as much as a beatle, where I live we call the wing the beatle wing.

I am looking to buy a porsche and looking to spend 22,000. What should I be looking at?
Mapleneckguitar 2 years ago
@Mapleneckguitar - I owned several 911
and 944 from the late 60es on to the late 80es, but as an entry level car I'd suggest a Boxter 2,7 / 3,2 -
Not so charming but beware, time goes by
and I'm not just talking about reliability :
the whole performance is not even to be compared: steering.gearbox, brakes, set up,handling overall are a few steps beyond.
Hope you'll find a good buy.

Mapleneckguitar, you could get a SC, a 944 turbo and have some $ to mod it, a boxter, or even a 996

uh why is modifications considered messing up a car?
shorerydr10 2 years ago
not original
Mraptor55 2 years ago
because it is messing up a car. it's a classic. you don't mess around with a classic, those cars earn respect.

also, modifications that seem fashionable today will become weird-looking in the future.

Excellent video - just matter of fact and no heavy metal music. One for(and from) a porsche lover; no doubt. Thanks for uploading. 5 stars.
