  • the information from the video is wrong!! the 123d has 204hp, 2 turbos and need 7 sec to 100km/h

  • you americans are funny, 2 liter motor is small. this recesion will hit you hard

  • So wrong !! The BMW 123d is a 4 cylinders in line 2.0L 16 valves diesel AND Twin Turbo. It generates 204 HP and makes 0 - 60mph (0 - 100 km/h) in around 7.0 seconds and the torque is really high, it has 400 Nm of torque... What a dumbass this guy is, omg... That is why americans are still running on 4.0 liters for 200 HP...because of dumbass t.v. shows that don't even know what they are talking about xD even a kid would know more about cars than this guy xD really sad

  • @eyeflame24 thats right;)

  • Yeah defo wrong info

  • Wrong bhp and torque info!

  • This guy is completely clueless!

    The 123d has 0-60 mph in roughly 6.8 - 7.0 secs not 9.0!

It also has bags of torque so pulling power is brilliant.

  • This is an ///M??

  • @jarus187 Nope.

  • Comment removed

  • @dbr712 Oh ok. The reason I'm asking is because you see the ///M logo at 2:42 on the gear shifter

  • @jarus187 That's just for show. It's like a sport package, the car itself is not an M car

  • @dbr712 Good to know, thanks!

  • 143 hp? I think he meanes 203 hp. The BMW 118 d has got 143 hp

  • manual gearbox in US?!? i`m shocked!!! :)

  • Wrong wrong wrong!!!

Even the 120d does 0-60 quicker than the figures he's quoting whilst the 123d does it in 6.9!

  • this guy is a real idiot....he has no clue about this car.....he's reviewing a 120d while they're showing the 123d....foolish americans

  • If he says this is a car from Europe than he got the horsepower wrong, it has 204bhp not 143bhp. You can find 143bhp in the 118d. Check your stats before you tape it mate. He even said it takes about 9secs to 60mph (these are the stats for the 118d again) :P

  • If he says this is a car from Europe than he got the horsepower wrong, it has 204bhp not 143bhp. You can find 143bhp in the 118d. Check your stats before you tape it mate.

  • The guy is an idiot... everything he says is wrong.

  • Problem in the US is that they use a really poor quality diesel, which modern European diesels can't use. That's why diesels just won't take off, there is just no incentive. As said, this 123d is a very fast car in Europe, has a top speed of 150MPH and gets there quickly - in other words, it will outperform almost all US made cars, at incredible fuel efficiency.

Even a very common VW Golf Diesel is faster and much more economical in diesel.

  • @dany1441 What VW Golf Diesel is as fast as a 123d ??

  • @EBTerriers err, none are. I never said there are any.

What I said was, a common (European version) Golf diesel will outperform most US made cars, and be insanely economical at the same time.

  • In Europe, this cars engine is twin turbo producing over 200bhp stock ;)

    That means 0-60 under 7 seconds :P

  • @miksirikoitsen with awesome fuel consumption. :D

  • poor review, full of mistakes (power, 0-60).

  • I'll import the 123d to the USA, even though that guy had the details wrong. I'm American and I checked the details and the Europeans are right.

  • Why diesels are not all over the place in the US is beyond me. Ridiculous amounts of power, easily over 45mpg and much less maintenance than a gas engine and the list goes on...

Americans are being played by the major car companies.

  • @TrailersForthePeople actually, I'm American and I already knew that the major car companies are being assholes ever since I was a little kid, because I've seen a 123d, focus rs/st, and r34 gt-r in the USA. Which is why I plan to import a car from Europe and/or Japan. =)

  • @RX72626 well done mate

  • @loris199 thx and I know that some foriegn (& japanese) cars can outperform the USA's bullcrap (I still like the Dodge Viper SRT 10, Chevy Corvette C5/C6/Z06/ZR1, Ford GT, Saleen S7, and other American supercars that aren't crap).

  • this CAR IS A 118D, NOT 123D

  • In Europe 123d has 204hp, not 143hp. And it does 0-62mph in about 7 secs. It's a twin-turbo 2L diesel.

  • 0-60 in 9 seconds? more like 7 seconds, get the facts right.

It has the performance of a civic si but with rear wheel drive and the economy of a prius but without the baterries. Also diesel engines require much less maintenance than a gasoline engine.

  • I live in the US and I would love to have a diesel engined car. I see the US is slowly warming up to them which is why I'm even telling my dad to keep his current car for a little longer (he wants to sell it) and wait for a good diesel engine.

  • Effing yanks no nothing. Every heard of a corner?!?!?!?

  • I guess some Americans might say: fuck fuel economy. Oh....

  • @myjanuary151987 not in California (USA). They'd want the Euro spec cars (& the JDM's)

  • Can someone give a reason to choose this one over a 125i.

If you remap it, will it be faster than a remapped 125i?

  • @Ialocin85

    400 Nm vs 270 Nm

    5,2 l vs 7,9 l / 100 km

range 1000 km vs 650 km

  • @Ialocin85 Because the 123d is at least equaly fast as a 125i. It takes around 5,5s/6,6s (4th/5th gear) from 80-120km/h in an 123d whereas it takes 5,7s/7s (4th/5th gear) in an 130i. 0-100km/h is quite irrelevant. With a modified engine management, the 123d has around 240hp - just to mention it again: 2l straight 4 cylinder diesel! Pedal to the metal in a 123d means around 9l/100km, whereas a 125i needs around 11-12l and a 130i around 12-13l. There's just a lack of sound.

  • A 2L diesel engine that makes 200 HP and 300 ft/lb of torque.

    Thoroughly impressive.

I wonder how this engine would fair in a small, proper sports cars, something along the lines of a Lotus Elise.

Speed and fuel economy at the same time. That's a future to invest in.

  • This car WOULD sell in USA/CANADA if they offered it with a six speed auto transmission!

  • This is the most depressing car review ever. You'd think they'd get the details right... eurgh.

  • 143 hp? idiot =)) is 204 hp :)

  • @rarincas that's what I thought! I was wondering wtf was up w/ that.

  • 204BHP and 0-60 is 7 seconds. It amazes me someone reviewing a car does not know simple facts like that!

  • All the data this guy gave on this car is totally WRONG!

123d har 204HP and not 143HP. It does 0-62MPH in 6,9 seconds and not in 9 secs. I'm guessing that 0-60 figures will be about 6,6-6,7 seconds. It also has two turbos like a 335d.

The data this guy is talking about equates to a 118d, witch has 143Hp and does 0-62MPH in 8,9 secs. 0-60MPH will probably be 8,6-8,7secs.

  • 9 s 0-96kmh or 0-60? lol what a good review?not very interesting the 204hp? nice how many american cars have 102 hp per liter? corvette? and its gas lol.how ridiculous is this review...american are used to smooth engines ya... 5,9 v8 with 200hp lol is enough petrol to make diesel for 10 cars like these...

  • engine technology is not for americans ;)

  • @loris199 I don't mean to argue or anything, but if Engine Technology wasn't for Americans (I"m Mexican Peruvian and live in the US), then you Europeans would never have shipped BMW to the USA by now.

  • @RX72626 the meaning of my sentence (sorry if it was not clear, but english is not my mother language was that the U.S. automotive/motorbike engineering was (and IS) miles away (or if you prefer, years later) than european/japanese one.

we can make 2 liter engines that can compete with U.S. big blocks, go faster, and perform better fuel consuptions.

maybe the fact that we pay gasoline 3 times more than the americans pushed our engineers to develope better engines...

  • @loris199 hey, with $4 gas, i would buy one but, guess what i cant?

  • Funny.. here in Europe 123d has twinturbodiesel and 204bhp out of that 2l block..

  • @Leonidae

because in America they still have 6 litre engines with 200hp ,that BMW with 2 litre 204 hp is too much for them

  • 0-60 mph takes 7 seconds not 9!

  • I have read that the rpm float is part of emissions programming, great review of a car that is a bit different from most one might see in youtube auto reviews. Also, I believe the mileage discrepancy is because of the difference between US and imperial gallons, unless you were converting from l/km, in which case you are quite right. I'm curious though as to whether the cylinders are iron sleeved, as I thought aluminum couldn't take diesel stresses.
