@Lomprouser Cliff Oroin solo call of khtulu solo whom the bell tolls intro plus inprovisions.e.g amnesia
Jason newsted has got my friend of misery intro thats the only thing that i find impressive his improve's where meh seen them a thousand times plus but he didn't really stand his ground in the mix seeing as most of his bass will get drowned out.
He was just a moderate to good bass player cliff is a good to amazing. Try to avoid being a hipster on this.
Sorry man, I think you need to expand your horizons beyond where they are at now. No offense to the bassists listed, because they are great players... But having a "greatest bassist of all time" list without Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius, Stu Hamm, James Jameson, Stanley Clark, Marcus Miller, Jeff Berlin, Larry Graham, and Bootsy Collins is almost a crime. Ok, so maybe in all fairness you should have a top 20 bassists of all time list, and I think you could cover the most influential.
Isurus, original prog/groove metal band based in London, are looking for a bass player. We have a professionally equipped studio, an album released and we are working on a new one.
We need someone who' s influenced by Tool, Opeth, Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, Katatonia, Meshuggah, Karnivool. Please check us out and get in touch if interested in an audition.
Look for "Isurus official" on you tube. Total commitment is required.
i believe that les claypool is THE best on here. hes got a fucking 10 million dollar bass that noone can play better than him. hes wayyyyy too good and if everyone knew this, they would also know that les claypool was rejected by metallica when he auditioned because they said he was wayyyyyyyy too good.
sorry to say but John Entwistle is better than everybody on the list. the top four should be: 4. john paul jones 3.Geddy Lee 2. geezer butler 1. John Entwistle
not the worst list but most certainly not the best, idk y it bothers me so much when a bassist uses such a trebley distorted tone such ass cliff burton. its bass! lets get some beef man! none the less all great musicians. james jamerson and victor wooten all the way!fleas the best performer of all bassist tho, in my opinion=)
@gofuckloser lol evidently i know that=) "trebly distorted tone such as cliff burton" my point is that effect espichally when in an ensemble takes away the element of low frequency notes which in my opinion is non sense. it sounds cool for soloing tho ill say that but with a grove you gotta have that low end bunch, let the guitarist do their job yano. all a matter of opinion and now my babbling ends. good day!
Les Claypol, Flea and Cliff Burton Should be 1, 2 and 3, not in that order of course, compare this 3 is like asking wich is the best assault rifle, there is not an absolute best
@TheFurryMetallicaFan i dont think my parents would let me buy it and the closest store we have is walmart lol, i dont think they will have CC there :V
All of those bass players don't really have anything special as a bass players in them. They are good musicians or composers, but nothing special as bass players.
I have an idea for you. Change the title of the video to "My top 10 favourite bassists". You'll get a lot less rage from randoms and people are more likely to respect your choices.
I do however support your choice of having Les over Flea.
What does Paul McCartney do here? He fits better into an easy listening-pop bassist list, and there he must be in Top 3 with Alan Jones (Shadows/Tom Jones)
I would prefer progressive/fusion bassists with Chris Squire and Pekka Pohjola on absolute Top!!!
people always go into a rage while watching these kinds of video's because people don't put in the best players, READ first sentence description ''MY FAVORITE BASSIST'' get it? Self preference....god >.< if you don't agree with lists like these go make one yourself
This video reeks of the uploader knowing nothing about bass guitar and merely going by popular preference. The fact that Cliff Burton ranks 1st and John Entwistle is only ranked 5th is a travesty.
And since when has Paul Mcartney ever been considered an upper echelon bass player? He's done nothing to push the envelope or make the bass anything other than an afterthought in any of his music.
Geddy Lee (of Rush) all the way. He's got it all: complex basslines, song-writing talent, great coordination with bandmate & world #1 drummer Neil Peart. Oh, and while he's playing the bass, he also sings, plays keyboard, and plays pedals (synth, Taurus bass and sample pedals).
Go listen to Jefferson Airplane "Bless It's Pointed Head" and first Hot Tuna albums. Then put Jack Casady up at the top of your list where he belongs.
You will never come up with a list that everyone agrees with....... this is a list of HIS favourite Bassists, so stop arguing and PLAY YOUR FUCKING BASS
To all of you that are complaining and adding your own people on this list, does it fucking look like he listens to fucking Jaco Pastorius judging from his list? Stop being a bitch and make your video list.
I BEG TO DIFFER TOP 10 ALL TIME GREATEST BASIST 1.Geddy Lee (Rush) 2.John Entwistle (The Who) 3.Ben Shepherd (Soundgarden) 4.Flea (RHCP) 5.Les Claypool (Primus) 6.Cliff Burton (Metallica) 7.Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) 8.Maynard Lewis (Tool, A Perfect Circle) 9.Jason Newstaed (Voivod, Flotsam & Jetsam, Metallica, Echobrain) 10.P-Nut (311)
I think no matter what, lists like this will always be biased based on who compiles them. Like for me you left out quite a few great bassists like Jaco and Victor Wooten and then you included some who I dont think really were deserving of this list like Paul McCartney and certainly Cliff Burton. I know cliff was very talented and started to set the stage for metal bass, but he died too soon to ever really become a top 10 bassist
This list makes sense if you add Rock bassists in the title. Victor Wooten is a jazz player, like Marcus Miller or Alain Carron. You cannot compare these two groups of bassists but just add ROCK/METAL bassists.
@PierreAnkh even in metal you have Sean Malone of Cynic, Steve Digiorgio of Sadus and Death, Roger ¨Patterson (RIP) and Tony Choy of Atheist, Jeroen Paul Thesseling and sooo many other that overcome many musicians of this list, I believe.
I think you forgot Victor Wooten.
