  • Watch my astronomy video!!! Mikie D

  • There is no denying it. It is an amazing feat of engineering.

  • if all americans are like bush its amazing you knew were space is

  • someone correct me if im wrong i have intrest in this job but isnt this a job that requires you to be in the airforce?

  • no, you do not have to be just in the USAF. If you want to join a branch and get into NASA, you have to be a test pilot. You can go as a scientist too, but as a Mission Specialist. There have been Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and Army astronauts, there has also been numerous scientist astronauts.

  • The British landed on the moon? What are they smokin over there?

  • maxiboy666 you forgot to mention: A Brit also invented Analogue Television, the first telecommunications i.e. telephone, the steam engine, the military tank, etc etc.

  • This has been kept hidden by the British government though I know it will be a crunching blow to Americans but we explored the lunar surface over a hundred years ago. Unfortunately in 1936 the NAZI's managed to steal secret Victorian documents on our rocket technology to develop their own for military purposes.

  • One things for sure, the USA will not be going back to the moon as a single player like the APOLLO missions. With NASA already contemplating scrapping the ISS and the US government hinting at cutting down the space budget it will be an international effort. Great Britain will be there at the forefront. We will take our flag back there like we did in 1893. Yes we did indeed land on the moon as ordered by Queen Victoria.

  • i have no clue wtf you are on, but US will always be at the forefront of space exploration. We landed on the moon, beat the Russians, and planted our flag. like xzKyouzx said, the United States and Russia will always be first, it seems that we have a good working relationship in space. And plus the Brits dont even have a rockets/proving ground to launch. Sure there have been British in space, but only hitching rides. of course the moon bases will be a joint operation because nobody owns space.

  • what??? yea sure we walked on the moon in 1969... we couldnt keep tires on a car for more then a month and thats rubber!!! but we walked on the moon .. we planted or flag here on earth and used hollywood to fool the world..

  • There is no proof to those assholes "theories" that the moon landing was a hoax.

  • How is it then that the McDonald Observatory up the street just a ways from me is able to bounce lasers off the laser ranging retroreflector mirror left on the moon by the Apollo program if they didn't actually go to the moon to put it there?

  • There's news that NASA have just taken close up pictures of 4 of the 6 landing sites :) showing what was left but the astronauts. Lets see the conspiracy theorists try and prove it was a hoax now :)

  • It's my dream to work with Nasa when I grow up.

  • So is mine.

  • me too and im 25....just seen the shuttle take off in t.v. went outside to see if i could see it and it was tiny!!! well i am in ireland so couldnt ask for much i suppose :--P still pretty kool

  • Secret Space: Volume 1

  • 5:02 sound wave

  • at least someone here besides me knows the truth.

  • Nothing more exhilarating than seeing a live shuttle launch, hope tonight's goes as planned.

  • All thanks to NAZI German rocket technology! Then there's the Jet Engine invented by an Englishman. I wonder if that's taught in US schools? Have Americans' ever invented anything apart from Kentucky Fried Chicken?

  • What a narrow view of history you must have maximoron666. You're right the Americans didn't invent anything except: the internet, your computer, the microprocessor in that computer....

  • Computer - Konrad Zuse - German

Internet - few computers - ARPA - American

World wide web (real internet) - CERN in switzerland - by an Englishman

Microprocessor - Intel guy with Japanese scientists

  • Who has invented does not matter, what really does is who uses that technology and who is developing it nowadays. Russia, US lead that market.

  • Increadable

  • After that one minute, the best time of your life and not long enough

  • If you were onboard that ship, that one minute would be the longest of your life. xD

  • I have been in a Space Shuttle before!

A mock-up at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Lol

  • james may has been 50 miles high =]

  • Science is awesome.

  • Yes - once... xD

  • What's the altitude for 5 miles?

  • 3:50

  • Been watching the SST Launches from my backyard for years....though I understand the phaseout I hate to see that bird go.....

  • I was on vacation in Florida a few days before this launch happened, I was so mad we couldn't see it.

  • wonderful...!!!

  • Because they NEVER went to the moon, or EVER will.

  • you know why do you say so? because you come from generation of "cannots", while in the 60s they were people of "can's". they could go to the moon and they did. people like you would never go, because you lack the drive or dedication. that's what stagnant society looks like.

  • You come from a grneration of hippies and LSD. I think you might be having a flashback. Man on the moon ....LMAO!

  • Well, seeing as I'm 21 I can hardly come from the 60's. I say again: Moon landing is in the history books. Unless you have hard, and I mean HARD proof that it was a hoax (someone's admission for example, not the conspiracy theories), I'm inclined to believe, you're delusional.

  • moon landing on history books does not necessarily mean the US went there

wrong information can get in the press too or buried somewhere for centuries before its true identity is revealed....No Offence

  • RosoMC how did you know the US went to the moon?

  • Because it's in the history books, and I think that conspiracy theories are for no-lifes.

  • I've been studying the "moon hoax" on and of for about ten years. I've yet to see any evidence for a hoax that stands up to any scientific analysis.

On the other hand there's good testable evidence that we did go.

  • what i dont understand with NASA is if they landed on the moon .wich was done from 1969-1972 .why didnt they go back with better technology because they had 30 years off better technology than they had in the 60s.even now its the 21st century and NASA say that they will go back in the year 2020 .wtf does it really need to take that long just to go back to them moon thats what i dont understand

  • Comment removed

  • Technology wise, it's all about the fuel.. especially in a simple engine like the rocket engine.

Since we haven't had any improvements in that respect, getting to the moon is going to be just as expensive.

  • well, one thing is that when usa goes to the moon, it wont be for a few days stay. Nasa intends for people to stay there so needs to develop more technology for them to put some astronauts and equipment up there for them to stay long duration.

  • to many people keep saying NASA need money or the techology is not there lol russia sending probs to the moon in the 1950s you looking at nearly 50-60 years thats a long time NASA should now have enought technology to go back to the moon its 2009 lol

  • i guess Nasa felt building the space station was more important.

  • It cost too much, the politicians wouldn't fund it, NASA had other stuff to do, and there was no real reason to go.

The planned 2018 return is a precursor for the manned Mars mission, partly to develop the required technology.

  • what did mission control say @ minute 8:42? ...to MECO, and @ minute 8:58? shutdown plan is ... you're go for the .... go for the pitch. can anyone help me? I can't understand..thx!

  • 8:42 Atlantis, press to MECO

8:58 Your shutdown plan is nominal, you're go for the +X, go for the pitch.

  • thank you!

  • It's amazing what science can do when properly applied.

  • Engine failure is one of the greatest concerns during launch and ascent. Negative return means that the shuttle cannot turn around and return to the launch site (RTLS) in the event of a single engine failure. I am not sure, but I don't know if the shuttle can even do a RTLS if two engines fail. Engine failures later in the ascent cause different responses. For instance, the Shuttle can try to land in Spain, or do what is called an 'abort to orbit', which is a different orbit than intended.

  • whites that white smoke that comes out of the thrusters well before launch?

  • the nitrogen

  • I believe so too. The liquid hydrogen fuel is used to cool the engines during firing, and liquid nitrogen is used to pre-cool the engines so that there is less shock when the liquid hydrogen starts pouring in just before engine ignition.

  • i saw the lunch today

  • and ate it too

  • cool

  • Whoa 398,889 Feet you mean cause they went kind of close to mars

  • Wow is that guy on the com from missonc control annoying... He keeps saying "atLANNis...?" as if it were a call for attention, too.

  • Thats because he is calling for attention..

  • dang 320,000 feet +++

  • Nu-Uh!!

  • the CAPCOM guy messed up and said Houston first when he called Atlantis for the throttle up. should have Atlantis first

  • good catch

  • Ah okay.

  • What is the vapor coming out before it takes off?

  • i wonder how did they still film the shuttle at 18-22 miles in the air ? someone ansaw please

  • they have sensors that can see where the shuttle is and this does a much better job at pointing the camera than a person can do.

  • Hey, thanks for the reply. I wondered about this as it must be exhilerating stuff.

  • Wonder what Geforce they feel on take off and wonder how long this lasts. It must be awesome to experience.

  • its a good video

  • Thank you...well done

  • nicely done

  • COOL LIFT OFF!

  • well yes the sound suppression system does prevent the shuttle from vibrations, but the vibrations arent strong enough to shake the shuttle to pieces. NASA is just concerned that the vibrations would damage payloads and sensitive equipment. In fact, in the first few launches of the Space Shuttle they didnt even use the sound supression system.

  • thats a machine that wastes 20k litters of oil in 3 mins eh? 0.0 nice launch.

  • no it doesn't use oil just liquid hydrogen and oxygen

  • now thats another speculator, who thinks who knows everything, or another greenpeace creep

  • well thats what it is!!!!

  • and i dont really care much about green crap. if you dont beilive me look it up for your self. or are you another speculator who thinks you know everything while anybody else is wrong

  • i was refering to icyanima89.

and them greeners say Nuclear Power is poisonous, when france has 59 of them and has won international awards for cleanest air.

  • o sorry its just i got the email like u were replying to mine

  • its so hard to believe somthing that big can go so fast and so high

  • nice

  • What is that steam coming from the shuttles engine ? before launch

  • O2 aux dump.

  • no, you mispelled it. it is sound suppression.

  • This was the first shuttle launch I saw on TV, that was one heck of a show.

  • the sound suppression water system prevents the launch pad from bursting into flames when the main engines ignite.

  • I luv it when they call out 19,000 mph, LOL.

Fast as hell. But we will go much faster some day soon.

  • "what is the sound suppression water system?"

like dynamic said. you can see it turn on if you watch below the launch pad around 3.50 - 3.55. the droplets of water absorb the shaking of the gas in the exhaust, so muting the vibration

  • The Sound Suppression Water System floods the launchpad with thousands of gallons of water a few seconds before the engines ignite. The water absorbs the soundwaves generated by the engines. Without the water the shock from the sound (i.e., the acoustical energy) would shake the shuttle to pieces before it left the ground.

  • sound suppression water system?

  • Great view of the vehicle right at lift-off. Besides main engine start and booster ignition, I have always thought that the roll maneuver is absolutely outstanding.

  • very nice

  • i say beautiful

  • Love it, man. Amazing captures

  • space space shuttle!!!!!!!!!!

    yayayaaa

  • Great Show!!

  • The Shuttle Launch will never become dull. This is allways so great to watch.
