Although Steve McQueen was supposed to be playing a racist Sailor in the film, somehow surprisingly his character wasn't that biggoted as I thought (myself Chinese and love Steve McQueen movies and his manliness).
Yeah I thought that too, anyways it was just in the blurb of this movie that describe his character "Jake" as a biggoted man before I saw the movie for the first time. It was hard to dislike him, after all its Steve McQueen the king of coolness.
On the USS Lane Victory which is tied up in San Pedro, they have the original steam engine props set and working from the'San Pablo. Great museum - actually, the whole ship is a wonderful museum. Thanks for posting this

@hanchiman there is a difference between racist and ignorant.
McQueen's character develops compassion while trying to figure out the chaos in his world.
