  • Hi Steve,

Well I finaslly got a Marx Wm. Crooks or maybe Wells Fargo engine. I am sending the viseo so you can see what I've done so far to this basket case. Fortunately, I guess, It didn't have much run time. so as you will see the engine runs well. I have a of question if you don't mind answering. First, this engine has a working smoke unit but it leaks smoke fluid on the front truck. Is this normal or can I do something to improve the amount of smoke & reduce the leakage? God Bless

  • Great conversion. People don't realize just how well some of the Marx plastic trains looked. I've repainted a number of plastic boxcars that I later put American Flyer S gauge trucks on to run as a Christmas train behind my wife's childhood 302AC.

  • Thanks, I have another William Crooks engine and tender and am thinking a color combo similar the the Flyer Franklin set.

  • Hi again Steve,

Well I finally got a Marx Wm Crooks engine on ebay for $60.00 plus shipping. It's all apart but supposed to be all there. Came with two cars and the track so I might sell those and get some money back. I was wondering if you had som still pictures of your's you could send my as an attachment. They would sure help when I start workimg on it. Thanks! and God Bless!

I sent a few pictures. Let me know if you got them. I will take some better ones to send you this weekend.

  • You did a great job! I love the engine. I've been bidding on some of these Wm Crooks engines but my budget has kept me from winning one yet. You've inspired me to keep trying.

    God bless,

Keep looking. I found these mixed in a "pile of stuff" on e-bay. Paid $60.00 for the lot, but one of the other pieces was worth the price by itself. It's a nice runner, smoke pretty decent. Good luck in the hunt.

  • Where did this engine come from? I've newer seen one like it. Neat train!

    God Bless,

The engine and tender are old Marx pieces from the Wells Fargo sets. I changed the wood load in the tender to coal and cut off the balloon smoke stack and made a new straight one. The rest is just paint and brass foil trim.

    thanks

    Steve
