  • I have a silly question: did Ray Charles have an affair with one of those girls (the solo girl, I think)? Thanks.

  • @Carmen6943 oui, dans le film RAY tout est expliqué l'ami.

    à +

  • @jpchamant Merci.

  • Thanks for the suggestions you guys! I told my dad Ray was on Sesame Street as you mentioned (he commented on this video). He didn't grow up watching Sesame Street though. Back then, keeping a TV was expensive. Thanks again.

  • Which one is Margie Hendricks?

  • @cyntem72 Margie is the short girl in the middle who has the solo.

  • @cyntem72 Actually, she's not the shortest, but she does do the solo.

  • You are welcome. Having lived in Mississippi for eight years, and singing in bands

since 1972, I have picked up quite a lot of slang along the way.

This is just how many of us speak to each other. I thank you, however, for reminding me not everyone uses the English language like we musicians.

God Bless you, too, and keep me in your thoughts as I prepare to record some original music. Thanks for your quick response.

  • Back when black singers had class and they had talent. Now they have no talent and no class. Even money cannot buy them talent and class. Snoop Dog, Lil Wayne take note of Ray Charles and learn to be classy.

  • @calihartley2010 Hi there.I hear ya, but I don't think "class" can be learned.......maybe so.......

There are none like these wonderful talents, but in the sho 'nuff Blues World especially Mississippi , there are some wonderful singers, and players that have that proverbial "it".......... Ray and Margie were in a class all their own, don't ya think? I do understand you.........best of the Blues to you.....

  • @Polly6761 Thanks for the kind comment. Also I hope you do not mind, but as someone who cares, I am saying this to you. Please learn to write nicely and properly and that would increase your worth and make you classy. True, money cannot buy you class, but trying to speak, dress and behave properly can bring you class. That is what these singers were. I hope you take this advice in the right way. Good Luck and God Bless.

  • Ms. Margie Hendricks!!! A very natural raw voice! How beautiful!! African Americans has always had a way with singing all kind of music as well as playing those instruments!!! All of the ladies did a great job!

  • Ray warst zwar ein mißtkerl aber du hast es drauf gehabt.... ruhe in frieden

  • wow Margie's voice is amazing, I love the rawness of her sound... thanks for posting this!

  • Are those the "uh huh girls?"

  • Holy funk, this fella invented the modern music himself.

What a sweet version. Ray lover til i die!!

  • Margie Margie Margie xxx

  • so please don't take my sunshine away!

  • can anyone tell me if one of the girls here is mary ann fisher

  • @AkiiesThePoet I would also like to know this :)

  • @AkiiesThePoet No she was gone by 1963.

  • sing margie!

  • This is an honest question.

    I really don't understand.

Someone was written up for a racial slur because they said "Good morning sunshine"

It was explained vaguely that Sunshine was the slur.

Why is Ray singing this if it is such a slur?

I am not trying to stir up a racial mess I really want to understand the reasoning behind this. What would be the difference between "You are my sunshine" and "Good morning sunshine" if sunshine is such a taboo word?

  • @srussert28 Because Ray Charles saw wayyyyy beyond color.... Ya dig?

  • My man!

  • IS VERY VERY GOOD RAY CHARLES IS THE GREATEST

  • does anyone who the girl group (that is if they are a group) are?! please thanks just need it for my project :)

  • @TheBrowser222 The Raylettes

  • @funkyfrog51 actually its spelled "Raelettes" but whatever

  • @m0rphzone My bad, thanks.

  • @funkyfrog51 it was spelled in three ways

even on their own singley they are called raelettes and on some others raeletts

and somewhere else like on a book I have they're spelled raylettes :D

  • @m0rphzone You know Ray was a ladies man and the old saying was if a young lady wanted to try out for the Raelettes she had to "let Ray"...........

  • @VA24541 yea I know. play on words ftw

  • @m0rphzone

    Awesome pun though

  • @funkyfrog51 haha i get it, the RAY-lettes cuz they sing for RAY charles! lol

  • @TheBrowser222 According to the biopic Ray, before becoming the Raelettes, the group were known as The Cookies. The group was introduced to Ray Charles through their session work for Atlantic Records. After backing him and other Atlantic Records artists, McCrea and Hendricks helped form The Raelettes in 1958. Pat Lyles was a Raelette, but never a Cookie. The group's name was on occasions also spelled as The Raelets or Raeletts.

(The Cookies sang...."Don't Say Nothin' (Bad About My Baby)"

  • @TomEMun THANK YOU SOO MUCH :D you were a lot of help!

  • What is the name of the Raelette singing the solo ? She is really good!

  • @TheBrowser222 just read your post... and the second from the left is Margie Hendricks. sweet

  • Another #1 hit on the Rhythm & Blues charts by Ray Charles. It was the 102nd #1 song of the Rock Era. We now move from 1962 to 1963. And Ray Charles is definitely becoming a force on all the charts. Could he be the breakout star of the 1960's? We will see.

  • You are my sunshine, my only sunshine...

You really love me that skies are great...

You never know dear how much I love you...

Pls dont take my sunshine away..

  • @artbbrain

It's "you make me happy when skies are gray"

  • WOW. such a honor to know he sang such a masterpiece in my hometown!

  • This was never in Sao Paulo Brazil..... this was filmed at the Madison Square Garden of NY.

  • @TheYaom How's that?

  • @funkyfrog51 Because I work in NY1 TV and we have this footage in our historical records and it was recorded by CBS on Nov 16, 1962 at the Madison Square Garden Arena from New York.

  • @TheYaom Interesting... I obviously don't know the truth about it, all I know is that the DVD I ripped this from is called "Live in Brazil". Weird... Amazon has it if you want to check that out.

  • @TheYaom Schooled.

  • Another great example of a great American artist taking a corny tune and elevating it into something special! You should also check out George Russell and Sheila Jordan's version of this, which puts an entirely different spin on it. Also, check out Sam Cooke's version of "Tennessee Waltz" and "Thelonious Monk's take on "Carolina Moon"

  • @eddyrod18 si, estoy de acuerdo contigo

You told me once dear That you really loved me,

And no one else Could ever come between (us).

But now you left me, And you love another.

You have shattered All of my dreams.

    (LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL)

  • j'aime....

  • cerdypuerky ray!!!

  • at the begining , i thought it was the ed sullivan show, then i read that it was in Brazil, then when i heard the applause i thought it was the ed sullivan show

  • Mr Ray Charles can't be beat sadly he died on my birthday.. A great jazz player is in heaven now hoora!

  • Simply the BEST version - Love Mr. Ray Charles, thanks for sharing!

  • Hotness!!! Boyy that girl was feisty!! lol. You can hear when she sang too. Love it!

  • ray charles is the beest!

  • fabulous ray...woooooow

  • holy fricken crap, amazing, love the design karren

  • This is a fabulous interpretation by Ray of what is a rather banal song. Margie is just awesome on it, probably the best 'response' performance ever. I often wonder why wasn't this talented lady never made the breakthrough she deserved. There's no justice when someone with such a testifyin' voice remains so little known.

  • To My Monkey Mariana...Cant wait! Mwah! Dance baby....

  • '63, the year that African Americans was finally put on the map for Social and Mental Justice and Rights. Thank GOD for those brave men and women who risked their lives for my generation, and my generation to risk our lives for this generation. Thank you GOD for singers like Ray Charles that sung songs like this and Sam Cooke and The four tops, Manhattans, ect for singing songs like this through a time of turbalance and trouble. Thank god for Dr.King helping us realize who we were.

  • yeah Margie was awesome....loved it!

  • Still remember Ray Charles!!

    The best of all time!

  • ♥ ∞ love ∞ ♥ ~ ♥ ∞ trust ∞ ♥

  • i kept coming to you in your dreams: 3 in fact. Over the course of approximately 2-3 months this time last year. Out of necessity, as i had no other way to reach you. Last dream was that you had blonde dreadies and were staying in an RV. Then i ended up in Dublin, where a "Tesla" RV was for sale right as I hit the fork in the road. So I went to church.

  • There is a great version of this on Genius and Friends :)

  • Man I am digging on me some Raylettes...............so classy and sassy and man they can sing as good as they LOOK. WOW!

  • i like the softer trumpets in this than the studio recording

  • aretha cant fuck with margie on the mic

  • Great song! Amazing how much a "children's song" can grow up and sound like a legit song. Its all in how its presented!

  • The Raelettes were beautiful and had loads of class..Ray was the man!!! A genius and a cat with swag

  • GREAT version God wasnt Ray the living end? 1962 "Modern Sounds in Country and westerN" I played the grooves off the 33 RPM record!!

  • Ray live through his music.END

  • This one song really shows Ray's ability to arrange music! This song when sung by other singers is pretty standard fare, but the way he plays it you really can feel the true meaning of the lyrics, just awesome!!

  • To my dearest Shilpu,

Today is more special for me cause it is the day God put my sunshine on this earth : )

On this extra special day I wish you a zillion tons of Love, and Happiness : ) ...I may not be with you in person but I will be with you in spirit, right through the day.

    HAVE A BLAST MY DUNKIDA : )

  • @Broken995 Ray Charles is a legend and if you don't know who he is then you are missing out. It also says who it is in the description. Do you not know how to read either?

  • @catdavis01 oh well i think i cant read

  • The Raelettes really shine on the performances from this DVD. Watch the one for "Hit The Road Jack"!

  • ray was a lady killer.......I have always heard that in order to sing with the Raylettes, the girls had to "let Ray".
