with Sammy Van halens tone follwed his style..nothing to knock him either!Sammy is an excellent artist but everyone knows Eddie for his raw sound and creative talent and just about most of that showed in the DLR era..."back then he just didnt knock the door down he totally destroyed it"!! thats a quote from Zakk Wylde..
@demonspeedin70 And I'm a VH fan, not a Dave or Sammy snob. I think both had some great music with the band, very different but I liked it all including stuff like this. :)
I think Sammy was on the beaches drinkin' tequila's, babe watchin', and rockin' out. And Dave was in bars, pullin' panties, and rockin' out. I'D KILL 2 BE EITHER 1 OF THEM.
@spudgunsta A more correct statement never has been made. I will even go further in saying that I didn't mind the Cherone incarnation. I don't believe it was up to Van Halen standards but it was worthy of the brand name I think.
I have been a Sammy fan since Montrose... I LOVED Van Hagar, but knew it'd never last... Van Halen was for guys, Van Hagar was for chix... saw em on the F.U.C.K. tour... Damn Yankees opened... Nugent is SO TALL and his pants had to be painted on! AWESOME SHOW!
"Your love is driving me crazy" and "I'll fall in love again" are probably the songs that Eddie Van Halen heard when Van Halen was beginning to suck, if you notice, Van Halen's songs with Sammy sound just like Sammy Hagar did before he got with Van Halen....therefore Van Halen owes it all to Sammy, he was on his way to the top and they were lucky enough to grab ahold and catch a ride! LOVE YOU SAMMY!!!!
I love people who say things like they wrote better music with Hagar. No one loved both versions of this band more than I did and with that said there are only maybe 5 or 6 Hagar songs I can even remember. And I have no problem with any of them. Hagar did not even come close to writing anything as memorable as Unchained or Running with the Devil or name another 20 songs here.
Nobody listens to "Unchained," "Runnin' with the Devil" or any other clasic Van Halen song for Roth's lyrical ability. No! They listen to them because of Eddie's guitar playing.
Bottom line: Sammy wrote songs that the vast majority of music listeners could listen to while Roth wore assless chaps!!!
music is music and everyone has opinions. like I said in my orginal comment, I loved both versions. But I'll take Panama or Drop Dead Legs or Top Jimmy or the full bug or everybody wants some or sinners swing or push comes to shove or little dreamer, DOA over right here right now or feels so good any day. again just my opinion. I don't see assless chaps when i hear the music but i guess you do so..
Sure wish they could get Hagar and Anthony back. Right now the whole thing with Roth is a joke. They had their shining moment with him back in the day.
@joaquinsoler your a lucky man. i was 15 when this came out and loved it. unfortunately i had no money to see these guys with sammy during the balance tour. the first time i saw these guys it was with gary sherone.. not the greatest era of van halen. still a great show though.
I used to fall asleep to this song when i had the tape when i was 7 years old and i just heard it in a store outta nowhere in january and i've been listening to it everyday since, love hagar!!!!
I remember when Eddie played this opening verse back in the late 70's believe it or not. I wish I could remember the link on youtube--goes to show you that he did pulled out some old school rock.
@Speegs23 i would have to disagree the funny thing is eddie wrote most of the riffs to this song with roth on a demo call no more waiting (get off my back) which you could find on here
@Speegs23 Roth was a good showman, he isn't anymore tho. He is honestly horrible now. I'd rather see them with Hagar, who can actually sing still and jump around and stuff. Dave screams and forgets the lyrics and mind fucks the women in the audience.
love that intro!

Van Halen became legendary with David Lee Roth ---- with Sammy they became REO Van Speed Halen and stunk it up

@Hunkola They weren't that great with Gary Cherone, either.

@jasonungar08 No? How bout proof? Google "assles chaps." Roth is the 2nd pic!!!
And yes, I agree - Roth's 'lyrics," for the most part, are in fact "stupid shit!"
