  • here is the best way to trow a stick, TROW IT!!! LOL!

  • this was a great lesson to no, thank u.

Im tryin to learn all posable survival technics, so when the soon comin apocolyps arives, i can stay alive and support my family.

  • i tried this skill today...and went at it for hours. thanks for showing an innvaluble survival skill!

  • Great video

  • well done/.

  • My friend and I are going to the wildnerness together and we are preparing many things over the last couple of weeks. You have already helped us out a lot. Thank you, it's appreciated

  • Thank you this is helpful :)

  • make a vido on how to make a fishing pole

  • cool im gonna sharpen mine

  • this guy is banging

  • Thank you. Well done and interesting. Best wishes from New Zealand.... Coote.

  • In Australia were I live we use the horizontal method for hitting and breaking Kangaroos legs so we can run up and kill it.

  • @sharpshot9684 what do u eat on a kangaroo

  • better off with snars are traps

  • great vids! just subscribed, thanks for the info-keep them coming!

ps-much respect for the last bit on thankfulness and honor

  • 1 word- Great

  • would this stick also work on larger game? like elephants and hippo's? lol..

    great video!! very helpfull!

  • keep'n the wobble to a minimum. heck ya.

  • I've seen some black folks throwing sticks to kill rabbits on Mississippi Outdoors--Melvin Tingle went with them and they demonstrated their skill at rabbit hunting with their throwing sticks and they were pretty darn good at it

  • You throwing stick reminds me of the AUS aboriginal boomerang.

  • great video and info. Thanks

  • Very good video, i really liked how you hunt for food. Basic and respectful.

Can you tell me a very fast and painless way to kill a small animal if you needed to eat? Only because a big stick like that looks like its going to be very painful.

  • @lawrence107

One quick blow to the head

  • @lawrence107 whenever you get close up to it slit its jugular or in stupid terms throat it will kill them very fast and there will be little pain compared to hitting it again with the stick

  • ima put a 7x56 scope on my stick. fucking sniper stick

  • Very inspiring.

  • Cool this will help if I need it, I thought this was an okay idea from the first video but when i watched the second one i thought this was actually pretty cool.

  • Great video

  • yes i am the ultimate ninja now yesss....now i can kill my enemies...heheh lol

  • thnx this will help alot with my survilval in 6 months =D im busy with the preparations technics and stuff wil a machete help me?

  • Hmm. Lots of people with short attention spans watching this video. Maybe they should go see if Spongebob is on instead.

  • nice vids man, u have a voice easy to listen to, very informative. i like the part where u hit the rock with ur diag shot and ur just like, "cool".

  • Why are people being so critical of the video? Yeah it's a simple concept theoretically, but if you're going to be so self- richeous why even watch survivalist video's? Love the vid btw

  • well spoken, but by god you can talk!

good shot, thanks for the vids.

the iraqi reporter should have had a stick instead of his shoe when he launched at george w.

  • @biggershoesatbush Go live in Iraq you fucking cunt! We do not need people like you in the US

  • does the stick give better accuracy?

  • one boring bastard, how to throw a fuckin stick get real nob end!

  • just throw a damn stick

  • the diagonal throw makes a lot of sense, especially with birds on the ground. birds can get air born during the throw and with one end of the stick high and the other low you definitely would maximize the chance of a hit. Good video, thanks.

  • dude your videos are the best ive seen so far, very informative and thats important, its not just some video that says " hey you can take a stick like this and take some game" I really appreciate your devotion to the information

  • Is that a next generation ka-bar on your side? I like your style.

  • I know its purpose but the title of this video made me laugh

  • The horizontal method also gives a wider kill zone if it not a very accurate thrower a primitive hammer with the split end method of construction works as a club and a throwing stick 1 more weight and 2 more uses and u can easily finish an animal and take larger game.

  • good.. helpful..

  • nice video , I really liked it.

I remember your video about making a fishing hook out of a torn and that was the best technique I've seen till now.

    Thaks 4 sharing

    Andrea

  • This strike with this wood wouldn't do *any* damage to any animal larger than a rabbit. And in the rabbit case you wouldn't hit it.

  • yay! awesome we've been playin throwing sticks 6 years now, this is useful info very inspiring thanx

  • Cool! Glad you liked it!

  • i find the side arm method works best for my neighbors barky little dog!!!

  • This guys vids are very helpful!

  • Great, great informative videos! I especially like your ending and about respecting nature. Very admirable of you, and it's the truth. Thanks for the videos you have been very helpful.

  • Thank you! Much appreciated... and glad to hear that you are enjoying the vids!

  • @HedgehogLeatherworks Good informative video. One thing I would like to say is that a stick can be broken to the correct size using this method with a maximum of two breaks and in the case of this particular sapling, it could have been made with one break. One more thing is that any tool is multi-functional. Sharpen one end and fire harden to make a digger and groove the other end to accept a stone to make a lever launcher to take small quarry. Very good even for a novice at a flock of birds.

  • if you have rocks would that work better then the throwing stick?

  • Depends on how good of a shot you are... I think the stick is easier to hit with.

  • @HedgehogLeatherworks it's not just that...it's like throwing a spear vs. using an atlatl, which means a little more velocity with the extra wrist flick. Now, a rock will cause more damage, but I don't know if you've ever thrown rocks at seagulls, but they see it coming because it's pretty slow, and you're covering a lot more cubic inches since it's spinning. The "vertical" method would be the hardest though I think, like a football, if you hit the ground, it's going to start bouncing.

  • @MrRyantlange sorry, that's in reference to using rocks.

  • @zammystavez well you can get more energy out of the rotational force of the stick then you can out of the rock, since the rock doesn't rotate at all.

  • @impavitus The stick adds spinning to throwing force (and covers a wider area), but to really hurt a decent sized animal using a relatively light wooden object like that, you must throw very hard and hope it catches the head or with a sharp end. But a stick is not balanced like a throwing knife.. . If you are so good at catching a small animal, might as well do with a stone, harder material. Otherwise the stick stuns a larger animal but then you must rush on it to finish it. That's the key part

  • @impavitus Of course I mean the stick is light just because it's used spinning it in air, if you sharpen the top and throw it in the fashion of an arrow in order to stick it in rather than just hit it, that's a different story...

  • nice throwing work! respect

I'm also going to make some...

  • Well say at the end ... Do not kill if you do not need!!!!!!! Great tips once again!!

  • Paul, great presentation skills. Useful information and it was practical for the situation of basic survival. Don't pay attention to any critics, they don't need basic survival skills, they can depend on the government!?! I am looking forward to viewing your other presentations. Tony

  • Hahah! Thank you Tony... glad to have you aboard!

  • Paul, nice video. A lot of verbal instruction, but this is all theory. I'd like to see that you actually hit or kill an animal. The small animals you mention are extremely quick. They will run before you can throw your stick. So, could you show us a video that you are successful in using the stick. Thanks.

  • Hey, I totally agree with you... I would like to do something like this but catching it on camera would be tough... maybe I could do it to show that it worked but I don't know if I will be able to "prove it" on video so to speak... any ideas?

  • Nice video, informative and well presented. Thanks!

  • i do admit i adire your respect but, i like to hunt for fun if i want food i can get it from a shop i hunt forthe fact that its exilerating for me

  • "Stalking" should give you that same satisfaction. If you can't get that same exiliration without "killing" then you need some form of intervention, either some psychological help, or lesson in respect, as he talks about in the video, in the form of a good ole country ass whoopin.

  • Great video, one never knows when these skills may come in useful. I like your manner and attitude to nature.

    Peace

  • Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!

  • at 4:52 i liked how you said "cool"

love your vids keep them comin

    5*

  • Thanks! Hope you'll stick around for a while!

  • i suppose that in a survival situation it is better to have a means to kill your prey than not, even tho missing your throw is very likely it's still much better to take a chance than not have a chance at all. at least if you do end up missing you won't be out of any energy to speak of

  • Yeah that is a good point....

  • ahhhh, that's where I've been going wrong....... I've always had the stick in my pocket!!! Tsch, you are such a genius!!!

  • Nice! Glad you were able to get some value out of this!

  • Stick stick stick stick stick etc... lol

  • you are talking to guys here dude, we no how to throw a stick, why didnt you just find a wabbit and chuck the fookin stick at it, kill the mother, and maybe then we would aplaud

  • great job! very informative.

  • Thanks!

  • Great video! I have found that it is extremely beneficial to point your left foot at your target (if you are right handed). Learned it in baseball, but it was great for sticks too.

  • AWESOME! I will have to give that a shot... thanks for the tip!

  • wait... so you just throw the stick at the animal? And it works? Interesting.

  • i have Bamboo at my house and i cut out a good peice and im wondering that if it has to be solid or if it can be hollow?

  • Hey, well I'm not really sure... give it a shot and let us know how it goes for you. Thanks for commenting!

  • Great videos Paul. Throwing sticks are very useful when you have nothing else. Everyone should make one and practice with it. Thanks for sharing.

  • this works 5/5 great vid

  • Good video bro!!!!!!

  • Very cool video! you are like the fit version of Ray Mears! =)

  • LOL!!! Thanks!

  • Very cool. And great notions about respecting the woods and the critters.

  • Thanks, and glad you share the same sentiments!

  • thanks paul, i tryed this and it rlly does work :)

  • Glad to hear it! Thanks for commenting!

  • LOL! Thanks for commenting!

  • Good call! Thanks for commenting!

  • bah i wish you would have killed something for real and then ate it raw!!!

    lol great movie.

  • Yeah! Maybe if I didn't have such a soft spot for critters...LOL!

  • Your great!

And I like how simple the throwing stick is.

  • Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

  • 5 stars*****

    regards

    sercout

  • Thank you!

  • Is your preferance a straight stick and not one with an elbow or bend.

  • I like em both... the curved ones are pretty nice too but I think they perform equally well. It's just a personal preference thing... thanks for commenting!

  • Its good that your able to make a video that is well thought out, and informative. most homemade videos are almost useless.

your respect for the outdoors, sadly, is a dieing trate... People nowadays think they own the world

    good job

  • Thanks so much! We definitely need more folks like you and me... I agree that this mindset is dying and I think it is sad as well. But, on the good side, there are still many people out there who appreciate the world as we do. Best wishes to you and yours.

    Kind regards,

    Paul

  • Paul, when you made your first video dod you think that it would be this sought after and well regarded?

    -Jess-

  • Well, not really.... but it has been a fun endeavor and I still have a LONG way to go and a lot to learn... but it is inspiring to be able to spread this knowledge to others.... thanks for commenting!

  • 1st time seeing your vid's, but must say you have done a great job, keep up the good work, just wish I had been more informed at your age . never to old to learn. will continue to watch your other vid's. just promise me you'll continue on your venture. keep a good head on your shoulders, and always remember to learn from all -

    Jim

  • Hey Jim,

That is very kind of you... many thanks! I promise to keep on the good path. I feel a sense of responsibility to pass these skills on and inspire others with them... I hope you enjoy the other videos and thanks for chiming in... feel free to reach out anytime.

    Kind regards,

    Paul

  • xd rocks!!

  • your pants work very well in that environment .

  • haha? xD

  • it is good, but it is meant to be carved down so there is no bark. and also into a shape with a smaller larger heavier part at on end, the opposite to which you are holding that gives more killing and hitting power, and makes it fly faster and more aerodynamic

  • but still 5 star

  • Yeah sure.

But that's something you do once your settled in.

You make a throwing stick just to have.

Quick make and keep it handy.

If it takes you more than two minutes to find and make it, you've spent to much time.

  • having a heavier end would also change the position of the axis of rotation on the stick, giving it a larger radius while in flight.

  • Great series. Excellent presentation and appreciated the conservation mention at the end as a bonus.

  • Thanks!!! Glad you like the philosophy... we need more folks like us!

  • Well done Paul 5*

  • Thanks!

  • Nice job Paul.... 5 Stars!

  • Thanks! Glad you liked it!!!

  • Have you ever heard of the Adirondack deathstar? Take two pieces the size of your throwing stick and notch the centers and cross them in an "X" pattern, The lash them together and sharpen the ends. This is more effective than the throwing stick, and better at knocking down flying birds as well.

  • Hey,

Yeah, I think I have seen one of those but I haven't built one... I may have to give that a shot... sounds effective!

  • Thank you for the video

  • Thank YOU!

  • I appreciate you consistently making "survivalist philosophy" notes as far as being humane / compassionate. We're not just out to kill and use, but to abide with respectfully. Right on.

  • Hey! Thanks for commenting on that point... I believe it is the most important aspect of ALL the skills and for me, it is the entire reason to practive primitive living. It is good to know there are like minded folks like you out there! Please stay tuned for future videos!

  • You've got a great "teacher's voice." Please keep uploading videos; I've been watching since I saw your cordage video.

  • i agree, i was thinking that as well...

    very articulate.

    reuben

  • Many thanks! I appreciate it and glad you are enjoying the videos!

  • nice video

  • Thank you!

  • as always another great video. i know that your most likely a busy man, but it would be great if you could put out vid's more regularly. thanks for all effort on your part, these really are an invaluble source of info.

  • Thank you! Someday I hope to put content out more regularly... stay tuned and thanks for your support!

  • great series Paul!

  • Thanks!

  • I guess that making the stick thinner like a boomerang would help .

Lower air resistance - better range / harder impact .

And a more deadly edge - the energy delivered to a smaller area.

  • I think that it may help in some instances, however the throwing stick in its rough form offers a lot of heft and crushing momentum on impact... but that is just my personal opinion.

  • I actually have a "hunting boomerang" that I got in Australia. It is more similar to the throwing stick that Paul constructed that an actually "returning boomerang". A hunting boomerang is much heavier than a regular boomerang and is only slightly curved. It is contructed using a very hard and heavy wood, and the ends are pointed. I can send you a pictue of it with a side-by-side comparison to a regular boomerang, both of which I got in Australia.

  • i;ve heard they use it as digging stick and hand held weapon as well

  • ancestor of boomerang

  • Yeah... that is an incredible science...

  • nice vids when u throw it would you recommend breathing in/out or just hold your breath

  • I breathe about halfway out, and always throw on the exhale... hope that helps! You will have to find what works best for you but I think this will apply to a lot of folks.

  • Awesome.

So out of curiousity...I know the throwing stick is one of the most basic hunting tools...but would you suggest, if time is available, shaping it in any way to make it more accurate or deadly?

  • Well, I know there are many folks who study those subtleties and I know there are some tricks to tweaking them... but I am not too familiar. I think you can weight the stick at one end by carving away the wood and that will give it different throwing characteristics... also do a search for "rabbit stick" and you should find some good info.
