  • Man, I have to thank you very very much : first, for this cover (it's a long time since I've been looking for it, as the Melvins are sadly not so well-known in France) ; second for having brought me to Alex Grey and his art. I've just checked a little bit of his website, this is awesome !!!

  • Afuckenmazing!

  • Smells like Nirvana !

  • syd was a receiver of wisdom and the world was not ready for him

  • Melvins covering Pink Floyd? fuckin A XD

  • Sick cover.

  • Alex Grey for the win, man.

  • Yea

  • They even did the channel-switching thing at 8:41. Awesome!

  • Brave. Not for covering Floyd - for taking it deep into the stars.

  • Thanks Melvins, I was listening to the ending on my headphones and felt like I almost had a seizure! That can't be good for you....

  • Ledvana or Nir Zeplin? What's the name of this band?

  • @PirateTravisJohnson1 its actually Pink Melvins

  • The cover is an art piece by Alex Grey. Hook him up his art is amazing!

  • @knockdoun If you look under the details I posted his website. Met Mr. Grey once before. Hes a good dude!

  • MUH DICK

  • BONITO COVER

  • is almost a copy but is art to make a copy of that, thank you

  • absolutely fantastic. RIP syd barret

  • Alex grey tabs sheet FTW

  • alex grey!

  • good cover !

  • barret was a Fuckin genius , i´ll see you on the dark side of the moon syd :D

  • They did a DAMNED good job with this !

  • I don't think Syd Barrett went mad

    Everyone else did....

  • good cover but the stereo panning at the end kinda ruins it

  • @Anth4400 the stereo panning is in the original as well.

  • Holy shit...

    melvins+floyd+alex grey

Pink Floyd's been my favourite band for years

Got into Melvins after hearing MJK speak so highly of them in a tool video

and now I see they did a goddamn cover of a patgod song

    I just had an orgasm.

  • I love the Melvins. But I only clicked on this song because I want to say Alex Grey is an outstanding artist!

  • a cover of pink floyd played by the melvisn with a picture of alex grey's artwork who makes the art for tool

    melvins, tool, pink floyd

    can it get any better?

  • @AEthercraft only if all those three bands can share the stage together now that would be the best show on earth

  • Ownage

  • Melvins will bring about the one world government. Finally!!!

  • great cover 5/5

  • syd was a joker when you compare his talent with roger waters so ill have to agree with other posters, the best thing syd did was go mad, to pave the way for roger and crew

although i do like this tune i guess it is because of the absence of the childish/ juvenile lyrics that syd normally writes .. the song bike being a laughable example

  • @MrSkunkd0c dude syd is awesome. too much of a genius. if he did not go mad there would be nothing he couldn't do. please dont speak bad about him. and he wouldn't charge 200 bucks for a ticket to his concert nowadays. like roger... also roger didn't try to write music untill he was forced by syd leaving.. just saying..

  • @MrSkunkd0c Roger had talent but most of his work sounded way too similar

The Wall and The Final Cut sounded like they should have been part of the same album

Floyd was at it's best shortly after syd but before roger took over (meddle, atom heart mother etc)

I like syd though because even though his lyrics and music may have been simple/childish it really could make a person feel so damn happy

  • @AbortionsAreFun Live, i agree with you. In the Man and the Journey era, when they were still playing syd songs, but with Gilmour on guitar, was fantastic. I would've killed to have seen whatever the best five piece show was. KILLED.

  • god this is awesome lol

  • cool i never knew the melvins covered this

  • f*ckin great !

  • The Melvins have done this classic justice !

    THIS IS BEAUTIFUL !!

    I'm a fan of pre-1973 Pink Floyd , and especially of the Barrett-era P.F. ( 1965-1968 ) .

  • The problem with The Pink Floyd was that they were just too wimpy. If it wasn't for Syd they would just be another complete stadium vomit turd band. Syd was a true genius and The Melvins have produced a CLASSIC cover here, what a legendary band they are. I would call this alternative because no one hardly knows it exists..and also most people cover crap from the sixties like the Kinks & Beatles, so this nice for a change. Long live the Mighty Melvins. Pink Floyd well meh.

  • I agree with your assertion about 99% of 60's covers being blase Beatles songs *yawn* , but I must make issue about your asserting that Floyd were "wimpy" . It's NOT their fault that the smaller , intimate venues closed their doors and stadium shows took-over ( circa 1970 ) .

If you like different versions ( I despise the term "cover" ) of classics , you should check out the Damned's version of Love's "Alone Again Or?" , and the Stooges' " I Feel Alright (1970)" .

  • y'all have to check out down's version of when the levee breaks....epic

  • @1401AndersonAve

Dude Pink Floyd made similiar stuff to this up to The Dark Side of the Moon. It wasn't all Syd. Live at Pompeii is a classic concert/film that sounds just like the Syd stuff.

  • @1401AndersonAve The greatest thing Syd did for the band was to leave, forcing the rest of the members, to step up and become leaders. Ummagumma wasn't that good, at least not the studio part, but it was an effort. Their live setlist during their transitional period (1968-1971) didn't contain much Syd material. Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive on some shows but it would be mostly improvised by Dave and Roger. After that they stumbled upon Meddle and the rest is history.

  • I hate music. :P

  • i hate you

  • mmmm, good, as original... Chicken guitar!

  • Really rad Cover of early Pink Floyd syd was great

  • i'll totally agree with you on this comment. always listen to what you want to.

just because a band was loved by 1,000,000 people doesn't make them good. its all opinion.

some bands just appeal to a wider audience.

but that doesn't mean you can't love bands like Nirvana and AIC. it just means you should love them by YOUR means, not someone else's.

  • @90sCovers well said, music is art and art is subjective.

  • Fair enough, you listen to inferior music of your own accord. Is that better?

  • fucking wicked syd would have loved this band

  • Not bad. Very syd-dave-roger-nick-rick!

  • its good but kinda noise too much and you cant make a cover f inter stellar overdrive couse it s just a improvsation

  • pink floyd forever.... nice cover

  • @jesielopitecus Good call, Equato.

  • great choice for the Melvins

  • What a wonderful cover! They've done Syd proud!

  • This is a pretty decent cover of the Pink Floyd. Don't see why anyone would complain. Good stuff.

  • Great song done really well. I am impressed.

  • I like the Alex Gray artwork on this clip.

    LONG LIVE THE MELVINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • God this is **MELVINS** the real music

  • 10 seconds in the clip and this looks promising.... 1 min in and I'm nodding in approval.... 3 mins and they're doing a pretty kick ass job.... "replay" dayummmmmmm

  • Alterna-crap? Hardly. Melvins play hardcore punk, stoner doom / sludge, and drone...but not very much alternative. They're pretty revolutionary when it comes to metal, so even if you think they suck, a lot of people look up to 'em.

  • I don't really agree. Torche (and by relation, Floor), Electric Wizard, Big Business, Soundgarden, Tool, Boris, and Mastodon are all good bands, and all love Melvins. Plus, with all good music you influence some shitty music, like Nirvana influencing Puddle of Mudd. It's not really their fault.

  • So, if you have a good idea, you should not follow through on it because a few people with a severely limited ability at having their own good ideas may be influenced. That's some sound logic.

  • lol this is a cover of a song from the 60s. Hardly alternative.

  • I know it's a Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett era cover, it's the Melvins I'm referring, you twit. What's the alternative to alternative?

  • Oh, so your comment had nothing to do with the actual song in the video that you were commenting on. Sorry, I'm such a twit I expected your comment to be on topic. My apologies.

  • damn i cant believe it....melvins u really did it with this i never thought u were that good

  • its a cover of a pink floyd song

  • i know that.... i said that i cant believe it that there were that good becoz of the song they chose to cover...

  • true

  • see! :)

  • Really nice. :)

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think the Melvins have ever covered a song and not improved it in some way, shape, or form.

  • besides this one

  • Sorry, you can't improve on Interstellar Overdrive. It's a good cover but the orginal will always be the best.

  • and this is coming from a nirvana fan... ha hahahahaha

  • Sadly I don't listen to Nirvana anymore, so your attempt at an insult failed completely.

  • @dinosaurjr420 Well you completely lost all credibility with that statement, seeing as AIC were one of the most renowned bands from the 90s, a lot more so than the Melvins or Dinosaur Jr.

  • They captured the essence and sound of that era real well. Doesn't sound like a modern band doing it at all.

  • awfuckinsome!!!! I bet Syd would love this!

  • This is insanity I love the Melvins and the Piper.

  • What a jam.

  • Finally a band that has the balls to cover this psychotic babble. Great cover!

  • it's not a cover. the melvins built a time machine in 1996 just for fun. notice how you never see footage of the melvins at the moment the planes hit the towers on 9/11. just what were they doing? obviously involved in black ops since the mangled demos. im keeping an eye on buzzo but he keeps calling the police and threatening to shoot me when i break into his house.

  • Hey, they also had been there when Kennedy was shot!

  • Are u serious?

  • lmao that's grand

  • Melvins will bring about the one world government. Finally!!!

  • LMFAO thats what i believe as well

  • @jonnyrocketballs69 you can see Buzzos face and hair in the debris of the plane hitting the first tower...

  • @jonnyrocketballs69 you`re kinda stoned, don`t you ?

  • electric wizard has. live though. its a cool cover.

  • Check out Psychic Tv's cover of "Set The Controls"...

  • It's the perfect song for the Melvins to cover.

  • They really do this song well.

They keep it fucking real here man.

  • ABSOLUTELY!

  • Comment removed

  • WOW.

melvins. interstellar overdrive. what else is there to say?

again, wow. this is like the best thing i've ever heard

  • Awesome.

  • yeahh..this smell like kundalini..

  • I never noticed it with the original, but the first notes sound a lot like "I Can See for Miles."

  • This is the way a cover should sound - FREAKIN' AWESOME!

Syd DEFINITELY would have dug it!

  • jack evans

    roderick strong

    austin aries

    matt sydal

  • awesome!I have this on a huge FLAC Syd disc,just heard it yesterday!Fuck yeah,rightous!

  • love it.

  • syd barrett would have looooved this if he heard it

  • Syd's smiling... This is plugged in...

  • i m relatively new to melvins(dont know why) ad i was thinking interstellar overdrive...so this made me smile that they have a cover. no wonder about that..

  • I think this is quite possibly the greatest cover I've ever heard. I've always thought this song should be covered by a sludge band but had no idea that a cover of it actually existed.

  • Psychic Tv did a killer cover of "Set The Controls"... Very good, check it out .

  • purely awesome

  • Best cover ever.
