  • That game...made me cry

  • @DoomedDiceThrower

...Actually I just remembered it's not after the magic attack animation itself ends, but after the appearing mana spirit casting animation ends. Once the attack animation itself started, controls froze up, but timed right you could chain endlessly. I still can remember the short cute spirit animations so clearly. One always gave me trouble to time right... think it was the moonlight one.

I felt like a fucking king for having mastered this back then :D

  • Damn.... I was gonna say #2 should be #1, but then I heard the theme of the Mana Beast...

I can't agree more with this list. It's perfect.

  • I still play this game on my my phone with an emulator :)

  • I still play this game on my my phone with an emulator :)

  • This music has been stuck in my head ever since I first played the game many years ago, whistle/hum it every single day. :D

  • playing this video in the background while playing minecraft? WINNING.

  • What about the boss music for the fight between the heroes and Dark Lich!? Or the music from the ice country? Or the song from the ice palace? Eh, oh well. Most of the other selections were good enough for me to overlook the aforementioned omissions.

  • Best SNES game of all time.

  • Argh, Blaze Wall was always the worst in the Mana Fortress!

  • Miss the old days.. today we get games like FXIII and XIII-2 WTF happened to the world??

  • @TheNaum80 I know right Im not sure the RPG will ever be as good as it was on the SNES :)

  • Awesome Compilation!

  • Yet another classic Japanese 2D rpg with music that still hearten up our souls thanks to the master Hiroki Kikuta.

  • This game and its music is such a great childhood memory for me. And i still enjoy it as an adult

  • What the forest taught me. Know what it taught me? That nature hates me. Always changing seasons on me, sicking it's animal minions on me. :c

  • Tunage

  • Very nice

  • This brings back so many memories....I was only just a little girl and this game stood out from the rest while I watched my older sisters play it. When I finally picked it up and started to play it I couldn't put it down.

  • ah at least you put the boss theme (Danger) ! that's my favorite, it kicks ass! I've seen another top 20 Secret of Mana musics but Danger wasn't there ...

  • this video just made my studying a lot happier! oh how I loved Secret of Mana <#

  • 1409767 GP

  • Must...level...Undine.../spams heals then rests at Inn.

  • lol at 8:01 the girl had 69 health btw great music epic

  • 1:45 <3

  • shivers up my spine for "What the forest tought me."

  • haha, was looking for #10 and found it in the first video. ahhh nostalgia.

  • Why didn't he get the chest at 1:10? It could of been CHOCOLATE!

  • me and my mom played this game together...i was 11 she was 30...now im 30 and she has passed....we had an unforgetable bond with around 500hours into this game!

  • @knappjames23 I beat this game with my mom when I was 10. 500 hours sounds about right to play this game...

  • @TheManaBeast Yeah,its rated a 75-80hrs but we loved to level!

  • @knappjames23 Amazing mother you had. :')

  • @Clouroxify Thanks Clouroxify!

  • @knappjames23 Your Mom was/is fricken awesome!

  • really cool :) nice story-telling, nice song, had good fun with SoM... Very nice game.

I past 1 year to finish it and for having level 9 for each spell , it was so nice.

First RPG being played at 3 guys in same time.

Thank you for this great nostalgic time.

  • This game is the best game ever.

  • This was probably one of the best Square games, and I am a huge FF/Chrono fan. This was just so... fun... different.

  • me and my mate played this for hours back in the day

  • Christ. This brings me back. I spent months on this game, leveling up all the weapons and magic spells. Why can't they make games like these anymore!!

  • @JDawgBlu Months? You're not uber! We had all the FF games, Zelda, this, Chrono Trigger.... the RPG world was our oyster and we were min/maxing like mofos in the 90s. Doing it with 100 pots in our bags.

  • OMG, and Breath of Fire!!!???

  • Nr.3 is so epic. sounds like: preparing for the last battle

Nr.1 is: now... it's time to kick some ass!

  • 0:39 that is a LO of freaking GP :O

  • #5 is my fave.

  • This game simply changed my life

  • @Josh690315 Me too. This game is an example of what can happen when inspiration and talent are the primary focus in making a game, and not monetary profits.

  • @Josh690315

dont think any of us were ever the same

the true meaning of "ADVENTURE TIME!"

  • Was it because I was so young or was it because of the games, or both? Hell I dont know, but it was magic. I would love to go rent a couple of games and pull all nighters like we used to.

  • The best RPG i even try on SNES. I plaid ti Final Fantasy (all chapiter) but SOM is really the best. Try this one if you admit emulator

  • Best RPG ever. Story, Gameplay, Music. 400 kb and days of Playtime. other games 12 GB and Crap games :P

  • SNES RPGS were mystical and sort-of bittersweet -- really, even at the time we played them they were mysteriousl/sad (now I consider them downright nostalgically depressing). Very Miyazaki in nature.

Games are made differently these days, a different vibe. Kids today will look back on the games they played with fond memories, not better or worse -- just we 90's chillens grew up in a certain vibe of game -- one that really induces nostalgia. Esp. SOM!

  • Five should have been No.1!

  • Once upon a time the most popular games had the most heart.

  • 2:10 ... i hate this fucking owl´s ... ;-D

  • i like # 10, 7, 5, 3

  • Isn't there another version to #9 in this game? Like a faster or slower paced version?

  • @itsjwb Yeah it's played in every other temple that you go to like the water palace.

  • Comment removed

  • No dwarf village as #1!?!?! Whaaa?

  • No Bell is Tolling?! You must be trolling!

I kid, good list. Love this game!

  • No.4 is epic!

  • Forget what everyone else says, the Super Nintendo has by far better sound quality than the Sega Megadrive.

  • #3 (dark star) and #1 (Meridian dance) are by far my favorites in this game...

  • I really like the haunting south Asian Island sound of the bells in the soundtrack to the vampires castle. That song stuck with me.

  • <3 i love this game it brings back thousnds of memories

  • Maybe it's because I'm not a kid anymore, but it's very rare when I connect to a character and storyline as much as I connected to this game. Secret of Mana and FFV1 (FFIII on SNES) are my two favorite JRPGs, and I would argue that Secret of Mana was attempting to stray from that role.

Absolutely amazing game, lot of good memories. I remember actually recording Thanatos' music on a dual tapedeck, haha.

  • secret of mana & Illusion of time ........still the best snes games

  • Good List but I think it should have 'a bell is tolling' and 'pure night'

  • das spiel wird das beste bleiben für immer und EWIG!!!!!!!!!

  • 10. Happy times!

    9. Not feeling much. . .

8.Which is spring, and which is summer?

    7. Sleepy time. . .

    6.Dynamic

    5. Whales weeping? Love the birds.

    4. The epic journey begins.

    3. The scary palace rises.

    2. I hate bosses!

    1. I remember this final battle with pride, sorrow, and awe.

  • @SailorBalance Spring is the trees with pink leaves and summer green

  • @SailorBalance The bosses are bastards. It's all about casting a spell then jamming on the menu button so you can get another spell cast before the boss pummels you. It's a race to press the menu button constantly.

  • Secret of Mana hat mit Abstand die besten Songs überhaupt! :-)

  • #4 is overrated and not even half as good as #5 imo

  • Fear of the heavens ist das schönste lied im spiel <333

  • mein lieblingsspiel *_______*

    es is sooooooo gailooo

  • @XxVivimausiXx Ich auch und bin mit Level 99 Beim Manadrachen ohne Cheats!

    Top das

  • It sucks that the series ultimately died after SD 3. I haven't played Legend of Mana, but I hear it was crap, and World of Man was just as bad. Ah. RPGs will never be the same anymore.

  • Good line up! Kinda disappointed A Bell Is Tolling didn't make it :/

  • Wha-wha-WHAAAAHH!?? No Whisper and Mantra? ;(

  • 4:02 I fear for the heavily whale sound!

  • I didn't like this game that much, I never finished it (i was blocked at the fire-tiger boss), but I fraky LOVE Into the thick of it... Normal if it's one of the bests songs of the game !

  • ahh secret of mana, great rpg games back then and now what do we have, crappy WoW -.-'

  • My favorite video game soundtrack!!!

  • Any true RPG fan should be able to see that this game has loads of heart and quality in it, and whether the person likes or dislikes the actual game is another story - but the overall quality and passion cannot be debated.

  • fear of the heavens first few seconds bring me to tears....

  • Meridian Dance is epic lol

  • good

  • this is a great game and you can play with other 2 people presing ¨start¨ on they control!

  • I can't belive this game is 18 years old, seems like just yesterday that I watched my cousins play this when I was 4.

  • wheres the Darlk Lich theme!!!

  • The main theme always gets me nostalgic....awesome game :D

  • Meridian Dance isnt good enough to be 1.Place. Dark Star, Danger and Fear of Heaven are better. I missing Pure Night and a Bell is tolling...

  • this music rapes my soul

  • One of the greatest games of all time, it is a fucking shame that they do not make games like this anymore :(

  • @DVDFreaker they make crappy remakes >.<

  • @DVDFreaker I agree :( it's all shallow boring fps games empahsis on graphics /yawn with the same gameplay, there all the same. Im glad i grew up with real games :)

  • @DVDFreaker

It doesn't work anymore. When grapphics were bad the story were good. Its other way around nowadays, ;S Its a shame.

  • guys if you dont want to buy the cartridge spend 8 dollars and get it on the wii vc

  • dark lich theme!!

  • If THIS is the best Secret of Mana has to offer,

    I won't download it.

  • @Rezorok7

You will buy it instead, right? ^^

  • @Maxderdachs

    Fucking $70 is too much.

  • @Rezorok7 SoM is one of the greatest games of all time, definitely worth more than 70$. I can't imagine that you'd regret this particular purchase...

  • @Rezorok7 You can get it on the wii virtual channel for $8 dollars.

  • @Maxderdachs I know thats right! Man that was funny! I dont know how but my friend got it on the computer for me for free!

  • in 1994 there was better music than now.

    fucking game generation..............

secret of mana was a great video game....

  • This is one of the reasons why lots of the new games fail, theyr music isin't good enough!

  • epic game, awesome music. good times!

  • Where is orphan of the storm?? that is just inexcusable man,, its not a matter of taste... that song deserves to be on the top 10 its the best one!

  • Mystic Invasion is crying out for a dubstep remix

  • weres the Dark Lich theme D: but the final boss theme is better ^^

  • one of the best games i've ever played

  • check my remix of "The Color of the Summer Sky" and let me know how you like it!

  • Great, but I definitely miss the song while fighting Thanatos

  • I love the tune at 6:08 ..... brings back memories..

  • #1 is absolutely right, my FAVORITE theme of all time!!!

  • who made this music? anyone?

and btw, whoever did the drum programming on "danger" was on speed.

  • @KDubTheEngineer probably koji kondo lol

  • @VII89 oh sorry, it was: Hiroki Kikuta xD

    Tomato tomato

  • @KDubTheEngineer

    It's Hiroki Kikuta

  • whats with far thunder / distant thunder?

or I cloesd my eyes / close your eyelids

    or prophecy

    or ceremony

or... anything else (without fond memories / dayluck [or however it's called ..])

  • I grew up playing this game. Needless to say, I loved it and played it over many times. Games like this influenced the way games are made today. I love this game and although the graphics and music are horrible by todays standards, I will never forget this game, ever.

  • You left out "Tell a Strange Tale" one of my favorite themes! D:

  • i like 'danger' A LOT it's like, danger is coming/rising then suddenly it's like 'yeah we can do this' and then it is like 'piece of cake' =D

  • @shintaqo

to be honest for me it feels the other way around. When the song plays for the 3rd time and you get towards the ending all hope is lost Lol!

  • BEST GAME EVER

MAKES ME CRY WHENEVER I PLAY

  • @lvmh YOU TOO ?????

  • One of the best games of all time... sort of depressing seeing / listening to what was multiple days / nights of fun!

  • @Cyan007

    you are exactly right

and one minute of silence for the "xbox generation" poor them, they ll never know what they missed...

  • @lvmh

    Best comment :)

  • @Cyan007

    Months of fun :)

Probably played the game for about 15-20 times. Haven`t played it for about two years though I should go play it again! :)

  • @Cyan007 Sort of depressing because there never will be something like this and it looks and sounds so cheap compared to nowadays advanced multimillion dollar productions and still kicks their butts?

  • @RaubhamsterXXL Yep, games nowadays are all about the graphics and video as opposed to the basic gameplay. I have yet to find many new games I enjoy playing like these ones.

  • @Cyan007 jea.. I / we spent a huge time of our childhood on that, but it was soo worth it.. back in the day SQUARE still meant something :-(

  • @Cyan007 so true, but why is that? and judging from how many thumbs up you got it seems like something many of us feel

  • When I listen to music this good I get this wierd thing where a wave of cold moves up my entire body. It's awesome.

  • OMG .. I NEED TO GET THE GAME AGAIN .. since i never got the final boss :/ so awesome music ofcourse too.. goosebumbs!

  • I love listening to these. I takes me back to a time when the real world wasn't and entirely corrupt place and when video games where thoughtfully made.

Nein- Das beste EVER !^^

  • I miss the 90´s.. video game grafics may have been worst, but the overall experience was way much better.. Maybe its cause I´m older but I just dont get exited with todays video games.. the only two games I really enjoyed as much as secret of mana where Mass Effect 2 and Bayonetta..

  • @wilsonelmalo

There are some good games out there. But yea many games are released before they are really finished. On the other hand yes we get older BUT don`t forget guys like us are playing games for almost or over 20 years now. Let`s face it: We just played too many games and there is much needed to blow us away again like it did in the SNES time :)

  • I'm very very surprised "A Wish" isn't on here!

  • best game ever

  • Best game ever one of the few RPGS to allow more than one player on a console best song by far mistic invasion... I played in there for hours just for the song haha

  • Best game ever one of the few RPGS to allow more than one player on a console

  • really loved this game <3 got a japanese version yearss ago and finished it many times.. without undertstanding a word though :P

  • @BestSnesMusic I wish you had included A Curious Happening, The Oracle, and I Won't Forget.

However, I do understand your choices. Thanks for putting up this vid.

  • Into the Thick of it.....man.....brings back memories... :)

  • this is my favourite video game ever, i was hooked on it as a kid

  • My fav is the title theme and the ice or snow level^^

  • How could you leave, "Monarch on the Shore," out of this list?

  • I remember this so well from my childhood, love it so much

  • omg the music is so beautiful AHHHH IM SO IN LOVE... check out my channels. I'm trying to become a game Composer hehehe :)

  • meridian dance sounds a bit loke the dragonball Z opening at the beginning

  • I always thought Meridian Dance was from that mushroom village...

  • One of my favorite games.

  • Dark Star ftw!
