  • nice clamps.

well said about watching the cnc milling,it never gets old!

  • @WildTangentUnit well I started doing a little 3D milling and actually after the first hour or so of a 6 hour cut it does get a little repetitive :-)

  • @backyardcnc eheh, true. The problem I have is the noise, even with ear protection I feel numb after one hour or so,and i've an "humble" Kress 1050.

The longest I've done was 3 hours, and that was tiring indeed after the first passes.

    Kudos for your patience :)

  • @WildTangentUnit Well the SHOPBOT has a 3.25HP Porter Cable and even at slow speeds of 10K rpm it is very noisy. Ear protection a must. Add in the shop vac based dust collection and the ceiling mounted air filter and is a noisy place for sure. Be great to have a spindle and get the new 2stage dust collector installed

  • While tiny vises do have their place, these small clamps are much more versatile for holding large pieces that just do not fit into small vises. The more options you have for holding and clamping the better chance you have of successfully producing useful parts. In fact if I need to make more than one of anything I make a custom jig and sometimes that is teh best route even for a single piece!

  • Try some Tiny Vises

  • Tnx for the comments. The 2 side peices are separated by 2 small spacers which are the same diameter as the ends of the sides. There is a short piece of round stock that goes thru the sides and the spacer and it is peened on both sides to keep it in place or can be made as a press fit.You could also use a nut and bolt but that is not as nice looking.

  • Nice Vid, and nice clamps! How are the two rounds at each end held in place in the sides? It looks like the rounds have a step down on each end that goes through the side plates, but I can't see how the sides are held in place.

  • Nice Video with a excellent narrative. Like your fixture plate as well.

  • I think you did a great job on the video, and no, not too much talking, it's actually good to hear a "presentation" of what is being made.

I do have a question for you, why do you have the machine lights turn off at the end of each run? Wouldn't it be nicer to have them on so you can see what you're doing while the machine is off for loading or setting up?

    Thanks again,

    Dave

  • @fretsman68 Dave,

Thanks for the comment s and very observant about the lights. I actually have them plugged into my controller on one of the aux control outlets which allows me to turn it on/off with a simple mouse click. However under normal software control all outputs including the spindle shut off at program termination so the lights go off. I have been meaning to change them over to a new outlet but just haven't gotten around to doing it. For now I just turn them back on at the end!

  • @backyardcnc

Thanks for that, and thanks again for the video ;o)

  • Hey,

Fabulous video. Great presentation and I find it valuable and other people will to. Love your intro sign. Wish I had time to make stuff like that. Very creative

    Georgette

  • Thanks Georgette.........really appreciate the comments. I could always fire you the CNC router and make a sign like that for your shop as well!

  • Great video I've had my cnc machine for about 4 .5 yrs now and I'm just starting to use the router(it's plasma or router)and no matter what I'm cutting with or how many times Ive cut a part I absolutely love watching it! I was really glad to hear you say you like it too, I thought I might have been a little crazy.

  • It never gets old watching a CNC mill make chips! Hope to have a full sized knee mill online soon! Watch for more video to come!
