When we buried my 88 year old father who served in four wars in the Navy and served his country for 30 years, we chose to sing God Bless America before all other pieces of music. We were blessed to be born in the USA and he was so proud to be an American. This country lost a patriot that day.

This song is one of my favorite patriotic songs and it's one of the few that bring tears to my eyes. It makes me realize how beautiful and how precious our country is. Even though it has it's crappy quirks and faults, I honestly couldn't dream of being raised anywhere else. After reading some of the comments I noticed that the people who cmmmented are from the younger generation. Being born in 1925 I grew up listining to what was kown as the Kate Smith Hour which aired every Saturday night, she was the one who was the first to sing this song which has lasted through the decades. She was also known as the "Song Bird of the South" . he was short and on the chubby side but she could sing. She closed her 1 hour show with the singing of God Bless America.

I feel that this country has unfortunately turned its back on spiritual principles. There are still alot of great people here though.
