Seeing how you didn't know about the boson string theory you can't know much about M-theory. I think you've gotten your info from wiki and perhaps some documentaries. We real physicists however rely on maths.

Indeed it combined all 5 of the old string theories into one by including one last dimension, but saying that M-theory is a derivative of the old string theories is like saying a human brain is only the sum of its parts. i got season one on DVD a week ago. absolutely great show. the only thing that bugs me about it is that its just so unnatural. the jokes are so obviously set up. yeah yeah i know, its a tv show. but some of the best sitcoms were hilarious and sounded totally natural. like roseanne, the best show on earth.

Where has this show been all my life? :p Hilarious. I personally like almost all kinds of humor, even the most shallow slapstick stuff (so long as it's placed in a wider context such as the multiple levels of humor and depth in South Park, The Simpsons, Monty Python etc.) but I've always had a longing to watch something with pretty much purely intellectual humor, this is awesome :)
