that's it?? they make LDAC seem so hard in ROTC, but this is nothing compared to what they had us do in the chamber for 5 minutes (not 5 seconds!!) at BCT!
@pinkstickynote1 man I went through basic at Benning '08 and although we spent longer in the chamber there, the gas they hit us with at LDAC was much, MUCH more potent. I couldn't get a sentence out before coughing my lungs out
well, I wouldnt call it hazing per se... if this were their first time intro to NBC, then I would want them to realize the danger of the thing (by experiencing it first hand) so they wouldnt take it lightly. Then further training would be to improve how to wear the suit and mask properly... If they experience the CS first hand without suits, on their next NBC training they would very much likely to double triple check their suits and their buddies. fear can be a good thing
That is not as bad as having it in the tent. The tent made all the gas stay in there longer so the entire room was filled. My squad took one breath and then hit the floor.
They need to get the 2010 version from 14th reg. where they used 12 tablets instead of 3. You were haunched over gasping for air the moment you took your mask off, it was terrible
@BUENMUNDOS No this is LDAC bullshit. According to Army REG they are supposed to have you keep your mask on the entire time in order to simulate a live nerve agent. But this is a bunck of Lieuys having jollies hazing the new Cadets and its absurd and unprofessional.
Actually, I did this almost the exact same way in basic training. The first portion we kept our masks on to "trust" the equipment, then the second half we took them off and recited the Soldiers Creed.
@jamedl7516 Yes I did it the same way in Basic training, but if you read the field manual on NBC equipment then you know that you are supposed to treat the CS like a live nerve agent and that the idea of this training is NOT to remove their mask. My Battle buddies that have been to LDAC tell me that they don't have their masks on in the chamber most of the time and that all it is is answering questions from the LT in charge. Its hazing with no training value what-so-ever.
@CPTobvious19 Agreed, mostly. I did the gas chamber at FT Jackson and we went through the whole procedure of clearing the mask, etc. At FT Lewis for LDAC we just walked in and removed the mask. There was little to no actual instruction on proper use of a pro-mask. However, NCOs ran the whole thing (at least I didn't see any bars.)
@dagomif Yeah I remember back in BCT they made us remove the mask in order to "improve the training". When I went through an NBC course in order to take charge of CBRN for my unit I learned that you are supposed to pretend the CS is a live nerve agent and you aren't supposed to break seal, but you are supposed to perform a variety of tasks in the chamber in order to familiarize yourself with the gear. Then I went to LDAC and saw this stupid crap. In my opinion CBRN training had more meaning.
this is funny. we were in a dark tent this year. our group got over 240 units of the stuff cuz the unit there was bored and gettin rid of their stockpile. was so damn smoky and dark in that tent. they tried to keep us in for a long time too. ppl were collapsing. these guys had it way too easy lol

I was such a lil bitch in the gas chamber... i mean "Confidence Chamber."

It isn't bad at all. I got worked up and started cracking up when I took my mask off. Best part was that they called the gas guy, "The Wizard".
cmansell42 2 years ago
...what, at basic we had a suffocating amount of gas, this officer training is way easier
chswrestlingchamp 2 years ago
