best to do your sets of pushups right in a row with only 30 seconds of rest in between.. after a few sets, you'll barely be able to do 10 reps - meaning youre working out just as intensely as if you were benching. After getting my reps under 10, I'll do the same thing with situps... After a few minutes, you should be able to do the same thing with the pushups again. Just keep going until your reps are under 10.
that said, it still takes a long time to bulk doing just body weight exercises... =(
make sure to not just do push ups incorporate back exercise as well such as pull ups while push ups are great you will grow uneven and can lead to shoulder damage

ur muscles r sore..means they be repairing.. give them rest one or 2 days to repair....eat protein every 3 to 4 hrs to help them...might get some mass too!
In my opinion sore muscles (not extreme pain but just muscle soreness) means that you have exercised effectively, it is very likely that if you keep doing 30 that you will no longer become sore which is a sign for you to start doing more.
i suggest going for your maximum for 3 sets, and than do 3 sets of push ups 3 times throughout the day, so like in the morning do 3 sets of max, lets say 20, than come 3 o'clock or so you do 3 more sets, than at night do 3 more. Just a suggestion, or just do morning and night ;)
i would say a 100 or two, if really want a work out, ( and this is coming from a 15 year old) do the number method,do 25 pushups then 24,23,22, and all down and do the same thing with the situps I do it all the time it's GREAT
I'd also recommend incline push ups. Place your feet at the top of a bed or couch, with the rest of your body on the floor. You want to hit the muscle group from different angles. Might also be worth getting push up bars, gives you a little more extension when your going down. Just google the names of this stuff for more info.

i started doing pushups everyday for about a week and a half now....my triceps are huge now and my biceps are definitely bigger... my chest is bigger than its ever been!!!!

leave 48 hours between working a body part MiNIMIUM. I personally work each body area twice per week so 3.5 days between each workout.

pushups are an excellant way to bulk up the upper body
do 10 of these.... then elvate ur legs... do another 10.... then elevate the other way another 10
rest 1 minute repeat
rest another minute... repeat
keep in mind... DO REAL PUSHUPS!!
focus on keeping your back straight!! and use ur chest as well as ur arms to push up... SQUEEZE! FEEL THE BURN!!!
