Getting a dog cropped and docked is like getting braces or being circumsized. So quit crying you pussys. Its done to help the dogs and satisfy the owner. The tails on Dobermans break easily so it gets very costy. Why spend so much on a broken tail every 2 days when you can get it docked. The ears are cropped to look menacing and allow the dog to have better hearing. It looks cool too but its done for a reason. Now stfu all you dumb shits who cry abot this.
technically the dogs aren't pure bred dobbies unless they have their ears cropped.... Dr. Doberman would be ashamed lol he bred these dogs to be tenacious and intimidating... floppy ears is far from intimidating. which is why he cropped their ears
@shutyourmoufff When people say crazy things like you just did, it brings down all of us who defend cropping our dog's ears. These dogs are every bit pure bred. Just because they don't crop doesn't make them any different than a cropped dog.
@Eira943 Obviously they are pure bred you can take two dobies with ears cropped and they will have puppies without cropped ears, but the point i'm making is in a dog show these dogs would not be allowed to show because they dont meet AKC "Breed Standards". It's not a true doberman unless its ears are cropped. And you honestly defend cropping ears? why? Dr. Dobermann inteded for these dogs to have their ears cropped. If you say its cruel i'll just laugh, is it cruel my parents circumsized me ?
man, mixed doberman mating with other kind of breeds...look wack...keep it pure people..these are how dobermans suppose to look..fearless!!not some lap dog that look like dobies
Tedfloryd just checked out your videos!!!There's no dogs just a bunch of GAY music videos. So you don't know shit about dobermans!!!Quit thinking your an expert on dogs and stick with what you know best GAY STUFF!!!!!
First that's more than a sprain!!!And yes I take my dobes to the vet anytime they would have something going on like the one in your video!!!!Just like I would take my daughter to a doctor just to make sure everything is ok!!!I really wasn't trying to offend just concerned!!We love all animals from our dogs to our reptiles!!!!And you should have know when you posted a hurt dog on utube you were goin to hear about it so don't be surprised!!!!!
@Sakurafan671 All of those sub- 20 pound dogs think their pit-bulls... they give me and my doberman's fits.. It's a good thing pit-bulls dont think they're pit-bulls.. or we would all be in a heap of trouble.
My dobie for 12 years was my best friend... he might have cancer and we are going to the vet tomorrow... wish us luck he really needs it ( his name is rocket)
Aww good luck- and if he does have it, I hope it's treatable. My 12 year old Dane had a malignant tumor which was successfully removed with only a local anesthetic and a great vet and a great surgeon, and she lived well for another year and a half.
@fun649 Do you "run" to the doctors every time you get a sprain? Iäm sure the owner knows what is going on and every single limp does not require a frikkin cast!
@JoysDobies I'm sure you have it already, but JUST in case - for osteochondrosis - glucosamine dose in the morning is so helpful (depending on what other med.s being taken naturally). Also eases the arthritis usually associated with the cartilage issues. My Jojo had days where she was limping terribly, was heartbreaking, but has never looked back since I started her on glucosamine. Good luck best wishes, and stop cropping ears - The British Vets and your dogs will thank you. xxx
@maleficmistress energetic or working dobes can sometimes (as spaniels etc) give their tails a good thwack & cause damage. SOME experience repeat damage & problems healing. A dobie has a big strong tail, in small areas/homes simple things like door frames & coffee tables can even be an issue. Calm well trained dogs don't tend to have issues being left full tailed. Excitable ones may end up damaged. It varies, but I have seen real issues that resulted in amputation but were no-one's fault.
@doberman0495 I admire good dog owners who care. The dog owners I come across working for the RSPCA as an emergency vet make me sick. HOWEVER, giving ANY animal unnecessary surgery to me does NOT constitute good care. I have never in 16 years of practice and 12 years of monitoring the welfare of guarding breeds at shows, EVER come across an incident where a dobie has suffered an "accidentally torn" natural ear. NOT ONE. They are done for cosmetics, for the owner's benefit, not the dog's.
I have two miniatures Schnauzers. They had their tails cut when they were born. I did not have theirs ears cropped because I think it is a kind of cruelty. I have seen pictures of cropped ears on Dobermans and the vet made a very real mess with it. After it is cut...no turning back ! I agree with you philipsqazxsw !!
I keep reading these comments and people are SO SURE of themselves its funny. But at the end of the day they're all just opinions so do what you want and STOP trying to pursuade everyone you talk to on the internet to your belief......This is not towars the people that just give there opinion thats completely different!
whats up with the brown dobies leg? are you just going to let it suffer on 3 legs or actually do something about it you slob. dont go on youtube and post a video showing an animal who is obviously not 100% and expect people to drool over your animals. fix that dobie !!!
@thisnameisnottaken17 I am NOT a slob. She is a rescue with occichondrosis, which is an overgrowth of bone. It can not be removed. Most people would have put her down. She is on 3 meds a day and limps. Otherwise, she has an excellent life. Fed nothing but holistic food, and sleeps to classical music every night on her bed. really, how small you are to attack before you know facts. Look a few posts back, I have explained this over and over. That dobie IS fixed.
I'm split on the cropped ears thing. I don't want to cause any unnecessary pain to the dogs. At the same time, a lot of people don't recognize a Dobie without the very distinctive ears. While the majority of the breeds' stigma is inaccurate, Dobies are a large guard dog with aggressive tendencies. They are fantastic lap dogs and great family pets, but you cannot have strangers treating them like labs. Labs will put up with a lot more crap and bad handling from strangers than Dobies ever will.

@nicholo85 Lots of people do. However, circumcision is usually done with anesthesia and is done for hygenic purposes ( to prevent smegma and foul odors) not cause ot looks cool.i
@nicholo85 Alot of people do complain about circumcision, but circumcision is usually performed under anesthesia, and is done for religious and hygenic reasons ( to lessen the smegma and foul odors that can be caused by having foreskin) and not because it looks cool. doing this to animals is wrong and painful.
@25JulieB no, she has a bone issue, she is a rescue. she is treated with 3 differnt types of meds per day. other than the limp, she is quite happy and spoiled.
About docked ears and tails - medically a dobie's tail CAN become a liability for sure, and cause issues. BUT cropping ears and leaving them wide open for grass seeds, insect bites and infections is not a good idea. I'm a vet with two dobes, both have docked tails and both have natural ears. Ear cropping in my native UK is rightly illegal, Personally I think it is unnecessary surgery for puppies that appeals to the owners vanity and has NO health benefit to the dog. Tails are different.
@fordka58 I don't know, I personally find leaving them uncropped is a hazard for ear infections - I've never come across a dobie with cropped ears that's had one. Not only that, but when playing, uncropped ears are more susceptible to tearing. This goes for 'protection' dobies as well - cropping their ears, while admittedly adding an additional aesthetic factor, also prevents unnecessary tearing later on. I find dobies with cropped ears are more capable of expressing themselves, as well.
@fordka58 look as a vet you should care more about the fact that we love our Dobies just as much as you do but its OUR choice to crop them since we are the once living with them providing and taking care of them so if its giving them a greater look and its done with lazer now days witch is much less painful heals quite fast. this is NOT mistreating your dog or loving him less than owers that dont crop ears do...
@fordka58 Hey there, I know this comment's a few months old already, but I'm in college for vet tech and I was wondering; how does the dobermans's tail become a liability? I understand the ears as far as environmental protection goes, but why is the doberman's tail harmful after time?
@fordka58 ACTUALLY, the type of breed they are, it is healthy for a doberman to have cropped ears or they can have hearing/infection issues. Because to make a doberman you have about 6dogs that have natural pointy ears. So not putting them to sleep to crop them is good for them in the long run. And one you should look in their soul purpose for being bred. Which is another reason why they shouldnt have long ears/tail
@fordka58 I just have to say, to both the people partial to cropping and those not, that the lame excuses have got to stop. I think we all should really just put it out there. Any dog with upright ears is exposed 'seeds' and 'insect bites'. And technically, floppy eared dogs are more prone to infections. Cropping DOES increase the sharpness of a dogs hearing. It is a well known fact. However, we crop them because we like the look. Nothing more, nothing less.
@Eira943 "However, we crop them because we like the look. Nothing more, nothing less."
Exactly...we like the look of the cropped ears. To each his own. For instance, we in the U.S. are partial to dentists and oral hygiene, something that continues to escape the know-it-alls in the U.K. : )
@fordka58 And also, I would think that you as vet would be more against docking then cropping? Docking is done when the pups are typically less than 5 days old, and they just outright clip the tails off. NO anesthesia. NO painkillers. Studies have revealed that the pups can indeed feel this pain. At least with cropping the dog is down under and they typically get ointments and pain killers. As a dock/crop fancier, my head is not in the clouds. Docking is cruel. The way we do it should change.
@fordka58 Here's some anecdotal evidence for ya doc...I've had Dobies for over 30 years, and only once did I fall prey to the "natural ear logic" and that Dobie, Gunner, suffered his entire life with ear infections except for a two month period when the vet taped his ears over the top of his head, so you're perfect for the UK but you're too full of shit for the U.S.
@fordka58 "Ear cropping in my native UK is rightly illegal, Personally I think it is unnecessary surgery for puppies that appeals to the owners vanity and has NO health benefit to the dog."
Aw, I'll betcha you'd get off of your cropped ear is unnatural high-horse and gladly cut their nuts off though, eh? You're a hypocrit...stay in the U.K. and sell your bullshit there.
cropping ears is merely for the human, to supposedly make the dogs look better. not only is it cruel but its unnesasary. we dont crop our babys ears to make them look more pleasing to the eye do we??
@newfyclays cropping a doberman's ears improves his hearing by about 20% and it is a procedure that is done under anesthesia. We don't crop our baby's ears but we do crop their penises, in case you haven't heard it's called a circumcision. And no, this one isn't cosmetic or just religious, it actually leaves the area that would otherwise be covered by foreskin less prone to hosting bacteria and other potential infections that may come later in life. Especially if contracting an STD.
@Kapacs Yes, that's medical. what the hell does the hearing provide? What, you intend on having a well-trained dog to fight off the zombies? Breed better dogs with better genes to get you damn 20%, don't crop their ears.
The dobermans image is as a fierce looking dog with a docked tail and cropped ears. These dobermans here look so soft and weak......cropp the ears please
It's that sort of attitude which makes people want to ban ear cropping.
First, these dogs are too old to have their ears cropped. There is almost no chance they would stand, so it would be pointless.
Second, we don't need more people trying to make the Doberman a fierce dog. I mean, think about it. It sounds like you like Dobermans. The more people encourage their reputation as a "vicious" dog, the harder it is for everyone else (including you) to own them.
@Moonshain ok anybody who owns a doberman knows that cropping there ears doesnt make them an aggressive dog....These are loving dogs whether the ears are cropped or not...i completely understanding cropping old dogs ears bkuz your suppose to do it when there puppies...
making a dog fierce is training it to fight and be aggressive and im against that....i just want the look that there famous for which is cropped ears and docked tail bkuz when you look at a dog show this look is required.
@nsulademon lol what are you smoking? Doberman Pinschers are loyal dogs who love children and are protective of their pack members their family, dockin the tail and cropping the ears dont make any difference to making them look agressive or fierce why should they look fierce?? I have dobermann whos 112 pounds hes got 5 german champs on his pedigree hes a kc registered u.k dobermann hes got his tail and his ears are european ears not sticking up, hes a big dobermann hes got nothing to prove.
@snoopslittledawgy Dude when did i ever say tht dobes were not loyal dogs that love children&r protective of there family?&yes the dobe is recognized in the US as a dog which usually has there ears cropped and their tails docked.THis is the image of the dobe WHen was the last time u read a doberman book, bkuz if u lk @ it the look u will get is a dock tail &cropped ears as the usual look.u apparently need to go look up history of dobermans bkuz this is y the dog was made to be fierce looking
@nsulademon how does cropped ears n docked tails make a dog look more as u say " fierce"?? that was my point, dobermann needs nothing to back up his breed thats all im saying .. in u.k ya cannot nor never could crop ears and over last 2 years no docked tails either, kc kennel club doesnt allow it. I dont need to read any books I know of Herr dobermann ty and dobermanns were bred in.. Europe not usa thats why american dobermanns are smaller than full bred german dogs like my kong.
@snoopslittledawgy my dog has 5 generation pedigree showing german champions i dont care if my dog with floppy ears looks soft as sH*t i know what he " could" be capable of doing! thank god hes like the dobermann I had before him for 12 years hes well balanced and very capable male dogand gentle with people! feirce? yes they are, Herr dobermann bred dobies to injur people who tried to rob him collecting his taxes...like i sed im glad mine isnt fierce hes my dog and i luv him dearly.
@snoopslittledawgy Well in america in order to enter your doberman in a show you must dock there tail and crop the ears becuase it is the look that the american kennel club prefers(and which to me looks better). Cropped ears makes the dog look more fierce because of the alertness factor which makes the dog look more intimidating. dobermans dont have to have those procedures at all bkuz they are beautiful either way but in america this is what 99% of dobermans look like
@nsulademon lol i think we maybe got off on a wrong vibe im sure we both love our dogs dearly, all im saying is I have a big german bred dobermann whos my best friend, hes gentle as a lamb and im glad but as for why the dobie was bred and I wont go into that again, dobermanns have one of the highest biting pressures within a dog google it, cropped ears docked tails fierce doesnt matter they are such beautiful dogs that love their owners and ya need to make sure they stay good citizens.
Some breeds need to have their ears cropped and tails docked for health reasons. Ear infections and broken tails are difficult to treat and perfectly preventable. On the other hand, if you keep after their ears it's not completely necessary to crop them, the dog will just need more care. Therefore, it's all really up to the owners preferences.
am i the only one who nitced the red dobie whose leg is like hanging off??? wtf? and the crops tails and ears look good and the dog doesnt ever remember it and if its done right with the anesthetic they are fine!
I cropped my first dobe and swore I would never do it again. So when the time came and I got my second dobe I left her ears natural and I am so glad that I did. It absolutely matched her personality, bubbly and sweet.
Do you leave your dobermans outside? That's not good. Dobermans dont take to cold very well, and they shake. Hopefully you dont leave them outside, they're not that type of dog.
@xxryz never. they are inside dogs. in the winter they go out once in a while, then back into the warm house and their chairs/couches. in the summer they love being in the yard to run and play and sleep in the cool grass. But they are never "left" outside. we have a huge doggy door so they come and go as they please. but mostly they are inside especially in winter!
i hate people who go on about cropped ears and docked tails, its the fuken owners choice not yours so please keep your opinions to yourself and dont fuck it up for others
@W33Dblazer I hate people who a) can't spell and b) defend those who mutilate their pets for their own aesthetic pleasure. It's not fucking it up little man/woman, it's an opinion.
@W33Dblazer That is how the breed was designed and that's how it is meant to look and it looks good. It's not a Weimaraner. The pain is temporary and given the things my wife does for beauty being docked and cropped in not a big deal. No one would forces you to dock/crop yours. Incidentally the docked and cropped Dobe's are far less likely to end up in a shelter or abandoned. It seems like the ones willing to pay extra for the look are loving owners.
@studypuppy that may be how they were "designed" but who cares if it serves no purpose but our own and causes pain/discomfort to the animal? your wife can do whatever she want to herself, its her own body, she isnt causing pain for someone else, there is no ethical issue there. so you are saying that crpooing ears is some sort of insurance policy?
@peterf16 a doberman without cropped ears has more moisture under the ears= bacteria, so basically ur helping ur dog in the long run, and docked tails keeps the dog from harming itself when wagging its tail against objects..... theres a reason behind everything its not just fashion
@W33Dblazer Good point. How about a deal though. You crop your dogs ears, then get yours to match. Mm? Sounds perfectly fair to me. It'll make you look "More fashionable," eh? Sleeker? And if we're lucky, you'll catch infection and die a slow, painful death for manipulating a perfectly natural trait. Oh, and what about your kids(if you happen to have any)? If you can crop a puppy's tail, why not bind your childs foot? Seems utterly 'civilized' to me.
@SorceressZila completely irrelevant, first of all a dobie puppy's tail during the 1st week when it's usually cropped is only being held by cartilage with no nerve endings, thus the puppies feel very minimal to no pain at all, 2ndly docking their tail is better because unfortunately dobies have weak tails and they get easily bruised and infected when they're older, trust me my friend has a dobie with no docked tail and she has to constantly keep it insulated with band aids.
@SorceressZila lastly, most people who crop their dobies ears and tails in general take very good care of their dogs. How are you comparing this as cruel punishment top a dog, when most people have no problem feeding their kids greasy and sugary foods?
Beautiful dogs. I have a large male red Doberman named Rascal up the street. Awesome build on him, and he displayed perfect temperament when I had to return him to his home once.
The red has osteochondrosis, and has been sent to a loving home instead of being put down like many of the dogs with this condition. ????? who the hell puts down a dog that has a leg problem ?? a scum bag that's who i would never let my dog be put down unless there was no hope! but anyway you have some beautiful dogs there and they look happy.
so it took me 20 whole seconds to read a few comments and find out that shes got 5 acres for these dogs to run and play. The red has osteochondrosis, and has been sent to a loving home instead of being put down like many of the dogs with this condition. Sure, she could be lying about that so she can continue to abuse her dogs....but i think you are just an idiot.
You are entitled to your opinion of me,as i am of you,BUT having never met you,i will withhold judgment, unlike you. I have raised Dobies my whole life, and i can tell you that dog has a broken leg,not osteochondrosis.
BTW,osteochondrosis is caused from TRAUMA and and dietary imbalances,so either way these people should be tried for Animal Cruelty.
Just because you have 5 acres of land doesn't make you a perfect animal owner.
CAN be caused by trauma and blah blah blah. Thats like blaming someone for drinking while pregnant who happens to have a kid with downs syndrome. Moral of the story, neither of us really knows if these dogs are being abused, but if i was beating the shit out of my dog, i sure wouldn't put up a video on youtube.
I dont agree with you jumping to conclusions and what your saying, but i sure do defend your right to say it. shall we go our seperate ways? good game. *asspat*
@RickinFLA07 Sorry Rick! MY VET diagnosed her. She is a rescue/rehome, so I do not know what trauma or diet she had BEFORE I got her. That is what rescue is. Her leg is not broken. She has a great life. She runs when she feels like it and when she doesn't she has plenty of space to flake out. She is fed a homepathic diet and all natural treats. She sleeps to classical music all night. Cruel yea right. Your sadly mistaken.
@RickinFLA07 I AM in the USA! I am quite well known for my excellent dogs and the conditions in which they are raised. Your very rude. I took in a rescue, my vet diagnosed her. She is treated and loved. Man get a life.
While I'm at it, to all of the "busy bodies" who say Doberman ear cropping is mutilation, but in the same breath tell you the dog should have his nuts cut off, do you realize how stupid you really sound to everyone else. Just because we say "Damned straignt" as we walk away, doesn't mean we agree with you, we're just reluctant to socialize with crazy people. MIND YOUR OWN FREAKIN' BUSINESS or go to work for the government.
Daniel...cropping has nothing to do with cool, but I suspect you know that OR have never even been near a Dobie. That being said, I have been owned by Dobies for the past 32 years and have had just one "uncropped". His name was Gunner, my best Dobie ever and, bless his heart, he suffered from ear infections his entire adult life. Not exactly empirical evidence, but enough for me. I'll never forgive myself for listening to dopes and condeming him to a life of unnecessary pain and infections.
@pea6 I do, and what amazing grounds. I love the below comment that cropping makes the dog more alert! How does removing surface area increase hearing!?!?! Anyway, beautiful animals, and beautiful surroundings.
Cropping ears is actually better for your dobbie 1 you can help your dobbie be even more alert another is that if you being attacked by a powerful biting dog that has twice the bite of a rott ( 600 lbs ) your can do anything to stop it like pull its ears ouch and less chances of ear infection and docking the tail is good so you can pull on it if your dobbie helps you hunt for bunnies and stuff and it doesn't get stepped on or bended by attackers so its win a moderate sacrifice 4 big advantage
@zamorachristian1 Cropping's no good for us. We don't expect ours to get attacked (as we would with us or our children and we don't have ours hunting. For over 2 decades we've had healthy Dobies with normal ears and never an issue.
@kittysioda she has osteochondrosis, and leg defect. she is a rehome. Yes most would put her down, but as you can all see she is quite happy. She gets 3 types of meds per day and is spoiled rotten. I would rather have her have a quiet life than be dead.
The red girl limping is Kiera. She has osteochondrosis, it occurs in large breeds sometimes in large breeds. We re homed her. She does great, is spoiled rotten. Most would put her down due to being lame. But we adore her and she has a great life.
@lovehammynow again - she has osteochondrosis, and leg defect. she is a rehome. Yes most would put her down, but as you can all see she is quite happy. She gets 3 types of meds per day and is spoiled rotten. I would rather have her have a quiet life than be dead.
@okami912 see above as to what is wrong, her leg is not broken. yes Kiera limps, but she has a great life and would not be put down over a limp. she plays when she wants to, mostly sleeps on our bed.
@christlovesme100 yes I do one litter per year. they were just born yesterday. 3 beauties, 2 reds and a black. some families were disappointed, they had waited all year to see if she would have what they were looking for. momma and babies doing great. but all of the dobies in this video are just pets, rescues or puppies we have kept. we re homed one ( I have lifetime re homing rights in my comtract) allbut one female are just pets
I love dobie's I had a male and female for about 12 yrs. that's been about 30 yrs ago and I still miss them. they were my babies.Especially my female she was about 2 yrs old when we got our male, boy did she ever pout. she pouted for about 6 mts before she finally accepted him.
Why is it that only one person mentioned the most obvious part of this video???? The doberman that was limping? The dog was just running around on three legs with no attention given to her injury.
@hamletfa It looks like it was fine toward the end of the video. Sometimes when dogs run in grassy terain, they get weeds or debri stuck under their paws and you gotta get it out for them. Maybe thats why it limped a little.
NO attention to her injury! Read further down. She is well treated for a bone disease that others would have put her down over. She is treated with 2 different drugs and has her great days and bad days. Do you think I would single out one dog for mistreatment? She is spoiled and adored, as are all my Dobermans.
my old dobys tail was a nub and she was born that way and the only reason people crop the ears is because thats ehat you have to do to guard dogs so that they can hear bettee but it is shit to just crop them bcuz it looks good
love the uncropped ears, chose not to mutilate my dobie aswell. the tail was cut when i got him, i seen a doberman with an uncut tail and it was a nasty looking thing. have a bulldog that i wish i would have took the tail off of just cause my dogs live inside with me and hes always knockin shit over with the thing when he gets excited. i will always have a doberman, so beautiful and smart.
@Biocide84 u like the mutilated tail though cos its inconvient? my dobermann who has impecable german bloodline pedigree has got his ears and long curly tail that he carries high with pride, illegal for vets to do this in u.k my vet said she was glad she never had to do it at vets school cut tails off without pain relief with scissors and hear puppy scream, my dog melts my heart every day even with weird curly tail.
@catukiki Id just like to point out, SOME (poorly breed) Dobies do have very weak tails. My baby of 4 years had to have her tail amputated later in life when it did break. My vet told us that most long tailed working breeds from shelters (or ranch dogs) should have dock tails just to avoid injury. Id hate to have someone else get their dogs tail broken. My girl was bed-ridden for weeks.

Aww good luck- and if he does have it, I hope it's treatable. My 12 year old Dane had a malignant tumor which was successfully removed with only a local anesthetic and a great vet and a great surgeon, and she lived well for another year and a half.
I miss her.

It varies, but I have seen real issues that resulted in amputation but were no-one's fault.
fordka58 7 months ago
@doberman0495 I admire good dog owners who care. The dog owners I come across working for the RSPCA as an emergency vet make me sick. HOWEVER, giving ANY animal unnecessary surgery to me does NOT constitute good care. I have never in 16 years of practice and 12 years of monitoring the welfare of guarding breeds at shows, EVER come across an incident where a dobie has suffered an "accidentally torn" natural ear. NOT ONE. They are done for cosmetics, for the owner's benefit, not the dog's.

Tails are different.
fordka58 11 months ago 36
@fordka58 I don't know, I personally find leaving them uncropped is a hazard for ear infections - I've never come across a dobie with cropped ears that's had one. Not only that, but when playing, uncropped ears are more susceptible to tearing. This goes for 'protection' dobies as well - cropping their ears, while admittedly adding an additional aesthetic factor, also prevents unnecessary tearing later on. I find dobies with cropped ears are more capable of expressing themselves, as well.
ConcurrentContrast 10 months ago
@fordka58 look as a vet you should care more about the fact that we love our Dobies just as much as you do but its OUR choice to crop them since we are the once living with them providing and taking care of them so if its giving them a greater look and its done with lazer now days witch is much less painful heals quite fast. this is NOT mistreating your dog or loving him less than owers that dont crop ears do...

LOKISlog7 4 months ago
@fordka58 Hey there, I know this comment's a few months old already, but I'm in college for vet tech and I was wondering; how does the dobermans's tail become a liability? I understand the ears as far as environmental protection goes, but why is the doberman's tail harmful after time?
maleficmistress 7 months ago
@fordka58 too true
eoinfffp 7 months ago
@fordka58 ACTUALLY, the type of breed they are, it is healthy for a doberman to have cropped ears or they can have hearing/infection issues. Because to make a doberman you have about 6dogs that have natural pointy ears. So not putting them to sleep to crop them is good for them in the long run. And one you should look in their soul purpose for being bred. Which is another reason why they shouldnt have long ears/tail
Nyxibutton 5 months ago
@fordka58 Docked tails affect communication, balance and cause pain. Absolutely no reason to do so. Agreed regarding ear cropping.
Blitzbok 2 months ago
@fordka58 I just have to say, to both the people partial to cropping and those not, that the lame excuses have got to stop. I think we all should really just put it out there. Any dog with upright ears is exposed 'seeds' and 'insect bites'. And technically, floppy eared dogs are more prone to infections. Cropping DOES increase the sharpness of a dogs hearing. It is a well known fact. However, we crop them because we like the look. Nothing more, nothing less.
Eira943 3 weeks ago
@Eira943 "However, we crop them because we like the look. Nothing more, nothing less."
Exactly...we like the look of the cropped ears. To each his own. For instance, we in the U.S. are partial to dentists and oral hygiene, something that continues to escape the know-it-alls in the U.K. : )
LunaticFringeHunter 2 weeks ago
@fordka58 And also, I would think that you as vet would be more against docking then cropping? Docking is done when the pups are typically less than 5 days old, and they just outright clip the tails off. NO anesthesia. NO painkillers. Studies have revealed that the pups can indeed feel this pain. At least with cropping the dog is down under and they typically get ointments and pain killers. As a dock/crop fancier, my head is not in the clouds. Docking is cruel. The way we do it should change.
Eira943 3 weeks ago
@fordka58 Here's some anecdotal evidence for ya doc...I've had Dobies for over 30 years, and only once did I fall prey to the "natural ear logic" and that Dobie, Gunner, suffered his entire life with ear infections except for a two month period when the vet taped his ears over the top of his head, so you're perfect for the UK but you're too full of shit for the U.S.

cropping ears is merely for the human, to supposedly make the dogs look better. not only is it cruel but its unnesasary. we dont crop our babys ears to make them look more pleasing to the eye do we??
newfyclays 11 months ago
@newfyclays cropping a doberman's ears improves his hearing by about 20% and it is a procedure that is done under anesthesia. We don't crop our baby's ears but we do crop their penises, in case you haven't heard it's called a circumcision. And no, this one isn't cosmetic or just religious, it actually leaves the area that would otherwise be covered by foreskin less prone to hosting bacteria and other potential infections that may come later in life. Especially if contracting an STD.
Kapacs 11 months ago
@Kapacs Yes, that's medical. what the hell does the hearing provide? What, you intend on having a well-trained dog to fight off the zombies? Breed better dogs with better genes to get you damn 20%, don't crop their ears.
SorceressZila 11 months ago
The dobermans image is as a fierce looking dog with a docked tail and cropped ears. These dobermans here look so soft and weak......cropp the ears please
nsulademon 11 months ago
It's that sort of attitude which makes people want to ban ear cropping.
First, these dogs are too old to have their ears cropped. There is almost no chance they would stand, so it would be pointless.
Second, we don't need more people trying to make the Doberman a fierce dog. I mean, think about it. It sounds like you like Dobermans. The more people encourage their reputation as a "vicious" dog, the harder it is for everyone else (including you) to own them.
Moonshain 11 months ago
@Moonshain ok anybody who owns a doberman knows that cropping there ears doesnt make them an aggressive dog....These are loving dogs whether the ears are cropped or not...i completely understanding cropping old dogs ears bkuz your suppose to do it when there puppies...
making a dog fierce is training it to fight and be aggressive and im against that....i just want the look that there famous for which is cropped ears and docked tail bkuz when you look at a dog show this look is required.
nsulademon 11 months ago
@nsulademon lol what are you smoking? Doberman Pinschers are loyal dogs who love children and are protective of their pack members their family, dockin the tail and cropping the ears dont make any difference to making them look agressive or fierce why should they look fierce?? I have dobermann whos 112 pounds hes got 5 german champs on his pedigree hes a kc registered u.k dobermann hes got his tail and his ears are european ears not sticking up, hes a big dobermann hes got nothing to prove.
snoopslittledawgy 9 months ago
@snoopslittledawgy Dude when did i ever say tht dobes were not loyal dogs that love children&r protective of there family?&yes the dobe is recognized in the US as a dog which usually has there ears cropped and their tails docked.THis is the image of the dobe WHen was the last time u read a doberman book, bkuz if u lk @ it the look u will get is a dock tail &cropped ears as the usual look.u apparently need to go look up history of dobermans bkuz this is y the dog was made to be fierce looking
nsulademon 9 months ago
@nsulademon how does cropped ears n docked tails make a dog look more as u say " fierce"?? that was my point, dobermann needs nothing to back up his breed thats all im saying .. in u.k ya cannot nor never could crop ears and over last 2 years no docked tails either, kc kennel club doesnt allow it. I dont need to read any books I know of Herr dobermann ty and dobermanns were bred in.. Europe not usa thats why american dobermanns are smaller than full bred german dogs like my kong.
snoopslittledawgy 9 months ago
@snoopslittledawgy my dog has 5 generation pedigree showing german champions i dont care if my dog with floppy ears looks soft as sH*t i know what he " could" be capable of doing! thank god hes like the dobermann I had before him for 12 years hes well balanced and very capable male dogand gentle with people! feirce? yes they are, Herr dobermann bred dobies to injur people who tried to rob him collecting his taxes...like i sed im glad mine isnt fierce hes my dog and i luv him dearly.
snoopslittledawgy 9 months ago
@snoopslittledawgy Well in america in order to enter your doberman in a show you must dock there tail and crop the ears becuase it is the look that the american kennel club prefers(and which to me looks better). Cropped ears makes the dog look more fierce because of the alertness factor which makes the dog look more intimidating. dobermans dont have to have those procedures at all bkuz they are beautiful either way but in america this is what 99% of dobermans look like
nsulademon 9 months ago
@nsulademon lol i think we maybe got off on a wrong vibe im sure we both love our dogs dearly, all im saying is I have a big german bred dobermann whos my best friend, hes gentle as a lamb and im glad but as for why the dobie was bred and I wont go into that again, dobermanns have one of the highest biting pressures within a dog google it, cropped ears docked tails fierce doesnt matter they are such beautiful dogs that love their owners and ya need to make sure they stay good citizens.
snoopslittledawgy 9 months ago
@snoopslittledawgy LOL yea mann i love dobermans there my favorite breed , i would never raise them to become bad dogs.
nsulademon 9 months ago
Some breeds need to have their ears cropped and tails docked for health reasons. Ear infections and broken tails are difficult to treat and perfectly preventable. On the other hand, if you keep after their ears it's not completely necessary to crop them, the dog will just need more care. Therefore, it's all really up to the owners preferences.

peterf16 1 year ago
@W33Dblazer That is how the breed was designed and that's how it is meant to look and it looks good. It's not a Weimaraner. The pain is temporary and given the things my wife does for beauty being docked and cropped in not a big deal. No one would forces you to dock/crop yours. Incidentally the docked and cropped Dobe's are far less likely to end up in a shelter or abandoned. It seems like the ones willing to pay extra for the look are loving owners.
studypuppy 1 year ago
@studypuppy that may be how they were "designed" but who cares if it serves no purpose but our own and causes pain/discomfort to the animal? your wife can do whatever she want to herself, its her own body, she isnt causing pain for someone else, there is no ethical issue there. so you are saying that crpooing ears is some sort of insurance policy?
peterf16 1 year ago
@peterf16 a doberman without cropped ears has more moisture under the ears= bacteria, so basically ur helping ur dog in the long run, and docked tails keeps the dog from harming itself when wagging its tail against objects..... theres a reason behind everything its not just fashion
IpodCY 1 year ago
@W33Dblazer Excuse me sir, but you contradicted what you said.
jdomes 1 year ago
@W33Dblazer Good point. How about a deal though. You crop your dogs ears, then get yours to match. Mm? Sounds perfectly fair to me. It'll make you look "More fashionable," eh? Sleeker? And if we're lucky, you'll catch infection and die a slow, painful death for manipulating a perfectly natural trait. Oh, and what about your kids(if you happen to have any)? If you can crop a puppy's tail, why not bind your childs foot? Seems utterly 'civilized' to me.
SorceressZila 11 months ago
@SorceressZila you are a overreacting dumb fuck.. lay under a rock and die. you will do the world a favor
W33Dblazer 11 months ago
@SorceressZila completely irrelevant, first of all a dobie puppy's tail during the 1st week when it's usually cropped is only being held by cartilage with no nerve endings, thus the puppies feel very minimal to no pain at all, 2ndly docking their tail is better because unfortunately dobies have weak tails and they get easily bruised and infected when they're older, trust me my friend has a dobie with no docked tail and she has to constantly keep it insulated with band aids.
drakeneyez 11 months ago
@SorceressZila lastly, most people who crop their dobies ears and tails in general take very good care of their dogs. How are you comparing this as cruel punishment top a dog, when most people have no problem feeding their kids greasy and sugary foods?

Sure, she could be lying about that so she can continue to abuse her dogs....but i think you are just an idiot.

@flemoids
RickinFLA07 1 year ago
@RickinFLA07

Cropping ears is actually better for your dobbie 1 you can help your dobbie be even more alert another is that if you being attacked by a powerful biting dog that has twice the bite of a rott ( 600 lbs ) your can do anything to stop it like pull its ears ouch and less chances of ear infection and docking the tail is good so you can pull on it if your dobbie helps you hunt for bunnies and stuff and it doesn't get stepped on or bended by attackers so its win a moderate sacrifice 4 big advantage
zamorachristian1 1 year ago
@zamorachristian1 Cropping's no good for us. We don't expect ours to get attacked (as we would with us or our children and we don't have ours hunting. For over 2 decades we've had healthy Dobies with normal ears and never an issue.

The red girl limping is Kiera. She has osteochondrosis, it occurs in large breeds sometimes in large breeds. We re homed her. She does great, is spoiled rotten. Most would put her down due to being lame. But we adore her and she has a great life.
Thanks for all the comments!

@lovehammynow again - she has osteochondrosis, and leg defect. she is a rehome. Yes most would put her down, but as you can all see she is quite happy. She gets 3 types of meds per day and is spoiled rotten. I would rather have her have a quiet life than be dead.

@okami912 see above as to what is wrong, her leg is not broken. yes Kiera limps, but she has a great life and would not be put down over a limp. she plays when she wants to, mostly sleeps on our bed.

are u a doberman breeder?
christlovesme100 1 year ago
@christlovesme100 yes I do one litter per year. they were just born yesterday. 3 beauties, 2 reds and a black. some families were disappointed, they had waited all year to see if she would have what they were looking for. momma and babies doing great. but all of the dobies in this video are just pets, rescues or puppies we have kept. we re homed one ( I have lifetime re homing rights in my comtract) allbut one female are just pets

Why is it that only one person mentioned the most obvious part of this video???? The doberman that was limping? The dog was just running around on three legs with no attention given to her injury.
hamletfa 1 year ago
@hamletfa It looks like it was fine toward the end of the video. Sometimes when dogs run in grassy terain, they get weeds or debri stuck under their paws and you gotta get it out for them. Maybe thats why it limped a little.

@hamletfa
NO attention to her injury! Read further down. She is well treated for a bone disease that others would have put her down over. She is treated with 2 different drugs and has her great days and bad days. Do you think I would single out one dog for mistreatment? She is spoiled and adored, as are all my Dobermans.

Yeah that is a really good kennel huh - dog limping around and God knows what! What about caring for your dogs!

my old dobys tail was a nub and she was born that way and the only reason people crop the ears is because thats ehat you have to do to guard dogs so that they can hear bettee but it is shit to just crop them bcuz it looks good
vcjdcool 1 year ago
Wow, that's a lot of Dobs in one place. Pretty dogs too.
KingDoodleify 1 year ago
love the uncropped ears, chose not to mutilate my dobie aswell. the tail was cut when i got him, i seen a doberman with an uncut tail and it was a nasty looking thing. have a bulldog that i wish i would have took the tail off of just cause my dogs live inside with me and hes always knockin shit over with the thing when he gets excited. i will always have a doberman, so beautiful and smart.
Biocide84 1 year ago
@Biocide84 u like the mutilated tail though cos its inconvient? my dobermann who has impecable german bloodline pedigree has got his ears and long curly tail that he carries high with pride, illegal for vets to do this in u.k my vet said she was glad she never had to do it at vets school cut tails off without pain relief with scissors and hear puppy scream, my dog melts my heart every day even with weird curly tail.
snoopslittledawgy 1 year ago
@snoopslittledawgy you dont need to cut his tail... it dosnt hurt them though... but ears DO hurt them after they are cut
catukiki 1 year ago
@catukiki Id just like to point out, SOME (poorly breed) Dobies do have very weak tails. My baby of 4 years had to have her tail amputated later in life when it did break. My vet told us that most long tailed working breeds from shelters (or ranch dogs) should have dock tails just to avoid injury. Id hate to have someone else get their dogs tail broken. My girl was bed-ridden for weeks.
