Hey, i know im not a drag race fanatic or whatever. But can someone tell me why everybody keeps saying evo ftw when two subarus came on top? I mean i know they won most, but why didn't they win overall?
Evo Vs WRX/STi...the battle continues! I have to give mad props to the WICKED Evos...after all they are my arch rivals. In terms of quality though, Subarus win hands down. I've owned a WRX for 8 years and have only been without it for mechanical issues for a few days. I learned how to drive stick on it and added modest mods to it over they years and the factory clutch lasted 61k miles.

@carveriscool I wondered that about these cars. It seems EVOs can take STIs in a straight line and have less steering issues at high speeds on pavement. Im curious how they would differ on dirt and snow/ice... Either way I own a 2010 STI and have no remorse

u people want horsepower and speed then buy urself a good ol' muscle car. for example a 1971 z28 camaro and throw a racing engine in it...for example a 327 four barrel corvette motor bored to a 367 or a 560 four barrel race motor (890 horsepower)

in my opinion a wrx is more likely to break coz of the fact its a horizontally opposed engine and the g's generated around corners mean one side of the cylindes are being starved from oil while the other sides being over feed

Just my observations. 2 evos break. Very few Sti's. Wrxs were holding there own against the evos. This video shows well that it is all the driver. there are slow times on both sides. But the evos never showed there self proclaimed superior speed. I mean the WRX's were running just as good of times. Although there were some really fast modded evos. but no real good modded sti's. Maybe just the one 06 07 with the WRC wing. So from the vid Subaru>Mitsu. And the battle goes on.

I went with the Evo since I like the looks a lot better. Comparing power doesn't make much sense stock since the WRX doesn't use a 2.0 motor anymore. Comparing modded cars is just as dumb because anyone with a fat wallet can make their car faster than the other. Enjoy your your rides! They are both great cars.

yeah i think its a little heavier. but if youre comparing 0-60 times, the sti's gearing requires a shift to 3rd before reaching 60, which takes a few tenths of a second, while the evo can get there in 2nd
im not stating this as a fact just an observation..hot air tends to rise..duh well wrx sti were made with a top mount intercooler. if an intercooler is made to cool air why place it where there is the most engine heat? yes maybe it does have more power but with all that heat is. witch could cause turbo lag, ask anyone with a turbo, you feel a good differance going from summer to winter
Im sure you know this but, Thats what the hood scoop is for. a scoop fed top mount cooler is breathing the same air as a front mount. You do have a point in regards to the engine convection in regards to heating the aluminum of the cooler itself and that inhibiting the cooler from cooling the air as much as it could if it itself were a few deg. cooler. I guess Sub. figured the condenser would do no good if it was flattened by rocks.
well the heat would only rise if the the car wasn't moving, and for that there is a factory intercooler sprayer, which i don't know if it helped, but i held that thing down for a long time before i raced. i don't understand how these sti's are slower than 13 sec. because my stock sti ran 13 easy with a bad manifold leak.
This isn't really a good competition for Evos and Subies. On a course is where the real comparison comes in. Plus AWDs lag like hell off the line even if they have a ton of power. So drags aren't a real test for these monsters. As well, some of the Evos might be MRs so they will be a ton faster off the line and pretty much any type of acceleration. I'm not saying any of them are MRs because I don't know my Evos... but some might be =P

You're roudy. Lol. Both are great cars. In fact, that's why they are always being compared to each other. lol. But in Top Gear, the new '09 hatch STi did beat the Evo X (or w/e number their on) on their test track. I do admit Evos do outperform the STis but it all comes down to personal preferance, brand loyalty, and also availability =P. Like we couldn't get Evos up here in Canada, that's why you see STis more often. My personal preference are the subarus, and yours are the Evos. simple.
We can get the Newest Evos... Which ever ones those are. But all the previous versions we couldn't get cause they failed the Canadian bumper tests with the front mount. You were able to import them =P

Great video, appreciate it. Just bought a new Evo but have owned a non-turbo Impreza.
I went with the Evo since I like the looks a lot better. Comparing power doesn't make much sense stock since the WRX doesn't use a 2.0 motor anymore. Comparing modded cars is just as dumb because anyone with a fat wallet can make their car faster than the other. Enjoy your your rides! They are both great cars.

yeah i think its a little heavier. but if youre comparing 0-60 times, the sti's gearing requires a shift to 3rd before reaching 60, which takes a few tenths of a second, while the evo can get there in 2nd

im not stating this as a fact just an observation..hot air tends to rise..duh well wrx sti were made with a top mount intercooler. if an intercooler is made to cool air why place it where there is the most engine heat? yes maybe it does have more power but with all that heat is. witch could cause turbo lag, ask anyone with a turbo, you feel a good differance going from summer to winter

Im sure you know this but, Thats what the hood scoop is for. a scoop fed top mount cooler is breathing the same air as a front mount. You do have a point in regards to the engine convection in regards to heating the aluminum of the cooler itself and that inhibiting the cooler from cooling the air as much as it could if it itself were a few deg. cooler. I guess Sub. figured the condenser would do no good if it was flattened by rocks.

well the heat would only rise if the the car wasn't moving, and for that there is a factory intercooler sprayer, which i don't know if it helped, but i held that thing down for a long time before i raced. i don't understand how these sti's are slower than 13 sec. because my stock sti ran 13 easy with a bad manifold leak.

This isn't really a good competition for Evos and Subies. On a course is where the real comparison comes in. Plus AWDs lag like hell off the line even if they have a ton of power. So drags aren't a real test for these monsters. As well, some of the Evos might be MRs so they will be a ton faster off the line and pretty much any type of acceleration. I'm not saying any of them are MRs because I don't know my Evos... but some might be =P

You're roudy. Lol. Both are great cars. In fact, that's why they are always being compared to each other. lol. But in Top Gear, the new '09 hatch STi did beat the Evo X (or w/e number their on) on their test track. I do admit Evos do outperform the STis but it all comes down to personal preferance, brand loyalty, and also availability =P. Like we couldn't get Evos up here in Canada, that's why you see STis more often. My personal preference are the subarus, and yours are the Evos. simple.

We can get the Newest Evos... Which ever ones those are. But all the previous versions we couldn't get cause they failed the Canadian bumper tests with the front mount. You were able to import them =P
