Shawn has horrible execution, and American fantards need to take their head of her ass and realize this.

Her leaps are HORRIBLE, her dance is HORRIBLE, her turns are HORRIBLE.

The only thing has has going for her are tumbles, and even then most gymnasts at this level had similar tumbles to her in 2007.

Shawn was lucky that she was at her peak when the code was at it's lowest. Anything pre 05-08 code Shawn Johnson doesn't stand a chance. I doubt she even stands a chance now, with the 3 dance element requirements.

Of course she was lucky to be 16 when the olympics hit, but that does not take away te fact that she has better skills on beam and floor than almost any gymnast, is super strong, and very consistent. He dance skills may not be her strong suit, but every gymnast has a weakness...and the dance element of gymnastics is not what really impresses people about the sport...it adds beauty, but thats not as importan

whether I know gymnastics or not is a moot point...I have facts to back up my opinion...She was made a gold and silver medalist by an international pool of judges. Artistry is important, but gymnasts don't train 6-7 hrs a day because the dance elements are the hardest part. And thats what is wrong with gymnastics...people don't like your body type so you are no good? I prefer the powerhouse gymnasts...at least they don't starve themselves. SJ is a wold class gymnast...fact

Yes, artistry is more difficult to master than power skills. It's easy to chuck a skills and pose around the floor. It takes REAL talent to express beauty, love, passion inside a routine filled with clean, precise tumbling.

@capscoach Not really, as far as AA gymnasts go. It was a very weak field in 2008. If Shawn goes up and wins London, 2012, then I'll believe is a 'great' gymnast. The thing is, she won't. I doubt she'll even qualify to the AA final.

Actually, Nastia won more medals than Shawn did in those two years. (And no, I don't like Nastia either.) Nastia: 2007: T, UB, BB 2008: T, AA, UB, BB, FX SJ 2007: T, AA, FX 2008: T, AA, BB, FX You really need to open a COP and learn execution.

Really the only thing wrong with her gymnastics was lack of artistic choreography and she didn't always hit her splits. Because you do know that to pass level 4 and 5, she has to be able to do all the moves almost perfectly. I guess a double double is considered a level 4 or 5 skill...

@Gr33nkiwi Well yeah, there are plenty of gymnasts that bend their arms on the blocks. I bet most gymnasts do, I remember seeing only a select few who actually block with straight arms. How can you cheat a leap? And flexibility doesn't come naturally to everyone, it takes time to build it up, and even then some aren't that flexible. I knew a gymnast who couldn't do the splits because he had some extra bone or something which made him inflexible. Made it impossible to be flexible

You cheat a leap by turning you back leg. It makes it easier to get to 180 (which somehow Shawn STILL can't do.) Look at a picture of her split leap from above, it's absolutely disgusting.

True, but Shawn's lack of flexibly and ability to perform leaps is due to her shitty basics. Don't go blaming her build, she had the ability to get to 180, and cheating leaps is just a basic skill. Stop using excuses.

But when she twists on the vault it's not before her block so her hands land even, but there is still a deduction for twisting while blocking. Yeah, I've seen the picture of her leaps, not pretty, but she could hit them sometimes. And I wasn't saying that that's why Shawn is not flexible, I was saying that it could happen. Anyway, sorry for taking it a little overboard, my defensive side got the best of me.

And she actually had one of the best turns in the competition because she never had balance checks usually and usually kept her leg up even when she finished. And most gymnasts couldn't do a double double then, Fei, Johnson, Peszek, Ferrari, and I think at one point some girl from the Netherlands.

@Gr33nkiwi Well I meant dance moves that aren't leaps and turns, I separate those into different categories since choreography in itself isn't worth points other than turns and leaps. So that's what I thought you meant by dance, because then she wouldn't get deductions on dance since she hits her dance. But if you count leaps as dance, then yes, she didn't have the greatest execution on her dance, mainly because of the lack of flexibility, if she does come back, I hope she improved that.

The US had only ASac who was working vault for a chance to medal in EF's.Shawn was good, but they wanted her more for all around. If dos Santos had been able to hit like she did in 2003 worlds, I think she would have won the Olympic floor gold. However, I do strongly agree that they acted stupidly
