That said anyone who is given a new body to life everlasting will look like who they are in life. I find the idea of being given another "body" in the afterlife really bizarre, especially one with genitalia. As genitalia is there to reproduce, why would one need to reproduce in the afterlife? When you are resurrected you wont need it-as we will be as the angels, in your case I don't know. God gave the command for health reasons and also symbolic reasons. We don't get resurrected back into the same flesh, so you certainly wouldn't have the old foreskin back. God gives us entirely new bodies which are free from the corruption of sinfulness. Circumcision was an act of obedience. No where in the bible does it say that when we are in heaven we will look physically like we do on earth. This is our physical body, a representation of our fallen nature. We shed that when we die and either go to heaven or hell.
In the Bible's Philippians 3:2, Paul does not say, "beware of circumcision". He says contemptuously of circumcision, "beware of mutilation" and "mutilators of the flesh", speaking directly of circumcision.

When the Bible states that people will be made new, nowhere does it state that the body will be made new. Many interpret that after resurrection, (in no way similar to how Jesus was resurrected) we will be made new, without flaws, in an image of God. God originally made Adam, the first male, with a foreskin, and did not require that he, nor his sons, be circumcised. Circumcision was introduced to Abraham to be his end of a covenant with God, which resulted in Jesus.
I have one question. The Bible says that God pronounced creation 'very good' (Genesis 1:31) and that humans were made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). The Apostle Paul also said that God made every part of the body as he wanted it. (1 Corinthians 12:18).The body will be whole again. Oh lordy! Some of the responses on here are just baffling! First of all, God commanded the Jews to be circumcised to honor the covenant between God and the chosen people. Circumcision was a sacrifice of flesh and the mark of the Jewish people. And the circumcision performed then was just a cut around the foreskin so that the tip was removed and blood was shed. It was not a complete amputation of the foreskin (which is what circumcision is today) and it had nothing to do with health or hygiene.
You ever wonder why God would make an entire race promise to mutilate their sex organs (and the sex organs of their children)?
If the purpose was actually to honor a covenant, why do it to children? Why not let the child grow up and decide whether or not they want to uphold the covenant and mutilate themselves for God?
Because circumcision at that time was not viewed as mutilation, it was simply a sacrifice of flesh and it wasn't nearly as extreme of a procedure then as it is now. We turned it into mutilation since God originally commanded it. Circumcision was the mark of the chosen people so for your male children to be called "Jews", they must be circumcised (or they were not Jews). Gen 16:13 "Your bodies will bear the mark of my everlasting covenant" or be cut off from the covenant family.
What evidence do you have that it was not as extreme then as it is now?
(Whether it was "viewed as mutilation" or not is irrelevant, it IS mutilation.)
You still haven't answered why God would make them mutilate their children as part of this covenant, instead of letting the children grow up and decide for themselves if they wanted to uphold the covenant with God.
It's a known fact. If you research the history of Jewish circumcision, you can learn exactly how the procedure was done in the bible days vs. how it's done now and why it changed. I'll send you a few links later. As far as the mutilation argument goes, I agree with you that it is mutilation now and that it shouldn't be done, but in the OT, it was NOT viewed as mutilation by God or by the Jews. Therefore, your opinion is irrelevant as it imposes your own moral standards while ignoring theirs.

Bullshit! The words in the bible were written by men who contemplated their situation, came up with the best answer they could, and wrote it down with the claim that god inspired the words. Circumcision of male babies in the US was adopted in the 19th century to prevent boys from masturbating. When it was clearly proven that masturbation was not harmful, the hygiene excuse was brought up, as surgeons didn't want to lose a major source of income.

Too easy, this is another question based out of ignorance of the scriptures. Jesus' body is specific God wants us to be able to see the marks that he recieved to pay for our salvation. That said anyone who is given a new body to life everlasting will look like who they are in life. They will appear just like that person but better however "they will be like the angels" as Christ said, "neither giving or taking in marriage". Most likely no sexual organs at all.

I find the idea of being given another "body" in the afterlife really bizarre, especially one with genitalia. As genitalia is there to reproduce, why would one need to reproduce in the afterlife? Which (I'm assuming) is an immaterial existence? What a self contradictory notion. Regardless, we (most of us, thankfully) get a new intact healthy body each time we are reborn, but sadly some people feel the need to snip off various intimate bits, with religion often used as an attempt to justify it.

there's another little problem I have with physical resurrection. If we'll be given new bodies why resurrect the old sinful one. That's if one is buried underground in the first place. If one is incinerated and there ashes end up being spread with the wind God's going to have a difficult time putting you back together. Not to say he can't but I don't understand why he would have to since we have a glorified body awaiting us. That bodes another question. Flesh and blood can enter the kingdom so?

We don't get resurrected back into the same flesh, so you certainly wouldn't have the old foreskin back. God gives us entirely new bodies which are free from the corruption of sinfulness. What exactly they will look like, I don't know, but we aren't simply rising up in an overhaul of our old bodies.

Circumcision was an act of obedience. No where in the bible does it say that when we are in heaven we will look physically like we do on earth. This is our physical body, a representation of our fallen nature. We shed that when we die and either go to heaven or hell.

In the Bible's Philippians 3:2, Paul does not say, "beware of circumcision". He says contemptuously of circumcision, "beware of mutilation" and "mutilators of the flesh", speaking directly of circumcision.

Cycle is different.

Choosing option A or B doesn't render the plan imperfect. You could argue that choosing what you call sin renders us imperfect, but then imperfection is part of the perfect plan, so in that sense even imperfection is perfect.

Nature is Life manifest. I know my belief system is different to yours as I am not a religionist, but even Christians take the 'perfection of the design' as evidence of a perfect Creator.
Of course, perfect is a relative concept. It all depends on what you think the Purpose of all this is.

I have heard that species are going extinct everyday now and that it is the greatest rate of extinction since the dinosaurs. This is because of what we have done to the environment over the past century (particularly the past 50 years). There are people who have died consciously. They consciously and intentionally leave their body for the last time. Most people in the west are not sufficiently advanced to be able to do this. They can, however, often sense when their time is up and let go when they are ready.

Alright, for starters:
When the Bible states that people will be made new, nowhere does it state that the body will be made new. Many interpret that after resurrection, (in no way similar to how Jesus was resurrected) we will be made new, without flaws, in an image of God. God originally made Adam, the first male, with a foreskin, and did not require that he, nor his sons, be circumcised. Circumcision was introduced to Abraham to be his end of a covenant with God, which resulted in Jesus.

The Bible says that God pronounced creation 'very good' (Genesis 1:31) and that humans were made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). The Apostle Paul also said that God made every part of the body as he wanted it. (1 Corinthians 12:18).The body will be whole again. These events happened before there were cameras so they had to say it to the best of their ability. To distrust their word completely is foolish to me since early man knew astrology and other sciences so were most likely relaying a true account based on liable observation.

I trust in the Judeo-Christian account since it offers me seemingly the most irrefutable history of the pre world. My take on it is yes, we will be our foreskin back. We were born with it because it was supposed to be there. Just like my buddy who lost a leg in the war, he'll have his leg back again. At least that is would I would guess.
And I'm pretty sure Christians aren't required to circumcise - that was done away with in the coming of Christ. Only Jews are "required" to do that but babies who are sick or prone to bleeding can still get out of it.

I don't really care either way. God wanted the Jews to get circumcised because he wanted them to have a reminder of the fact that He had chosen them as His people. Don't ask me why he wanted you to cut off you penis sheath, God works in mysterious ways, but I heard that doctors have discovered that being circumcised is beneficial because it gets rid of one place that bacteria could hide and infect your dick. So, it looks like God knows best about penial health.

Oh lordy! Some of the responses on here are just baffling! First of all, God commanded the Jews to be circumcised to honor the covenant between God and the chosen people. Circumcision was a sacrifice of flesh and the mark of the Jewish people. And the circumcision performed then was just a cut around the foreskin so that the tip was removed and blood was shed. It was not a complete amputation of the foreskin (which is what circumcision is today) and it had nothing to do with health or hygiene.

Because circumcision at that time was not viewed as mutilation, it was simply a sacrifice of flesh and it wasn't nearly as extreme of a procedure then as it is now. We turned it into mutilation since God originally commanded it. Circumcision was the mark of the chosen people so for your male children to be called "Jews", they must be circumcised (or they were not Jews). Gen 16:13 "Your bodies will bear the mark of my everlasting covenant" or be cut off from the covenant family.

It's a known fact. If you research the history of Jewish circumcision, you can learn exactly how the procedure was done in the bible days vs. how it's done now and why it changed. As far as the mutilation argument goes, I agree with you that it is mutilation now and that it shouldn't be done, but in the OT, it was NOT viewed as mutilation by God or by the Jews. Therefore, your opinion is irrelevant as it imposes your own moral standards while ignoring theirs.

And in the Bronze Age when there were no antibiotics or modern surgical methods or sterilisation to create an open wound on a newborn was the farthest thing from hygeine you could get. Circumcision throughout history has never ever been practiced for hygeine. No culture, whether Hebrew, Egyptian, African, Australian, or others EVER gave 'hygeine' as a reason for this practice.

Circumcision of male babies in the US was adopted in the 19th century to prevent boys from masturbating. When it was clearly proven that masturbation was not harmful, the hygiene excuse was brought up, as surgeons didn't want to lose a major source of income.

It is no more unsanitary for a boy to retain his foreskin than for a girl to retain her foreskin. It's like saying it is more sanitary to cut off your eyelids. It is you who needs to do the research.
