i just kinda figureded this out, the water mix with the pulp and the freezing, the water alows the pulp to mesh together and lock in place, then the freezing shrinks it and even more tightens the linkage in between the wood fiber. just a thought
@pyroman675 I have no clue wtf you are trying to say but water expands when it freezes so I don't see that tightening any linkage of wood pulp or whatever the fuck you just made up!
@dlneudecker he may be saying in an unintellectual way about the wood fibers expanding due to water absorption and then the water within the wood particles expanding and tightening the individual parts of the wood? that's my best guess anyway i'm not very frequent in derp.
it could, if you had about 2.5 inches of it on you, tests reveal that from a distance of about 50 yards, and with a .45 caliber slug, that the impact crater is about 1.5 - 2 inches deep.
"Pykrete is a mysterious substance. Some people say it has the strength of concrete, while some say it can float. It is also known to be resistant to flame. All we can say is some experimentation is needed."
It actually can, it has almost the same buoyancy as ice, just stronger. On the show "Mythbusters" they made a ship out of it, it worked while holding up to 600 pounds for about 1 hour.
The person who invented it proposed to build an aircraft carrier out of for use in Alaska during WW2, but he couldnt because the war ended right before he was going to begin construction.
I was merely pointing out that the guy's description gave me the impression that he's disabled in the head. You just don't say "Some say it can float" you say "IT FLOATS"
Mysterious substance? What are you stupid? Pykrete is ice and sawdust. The combination makes ice met much more slowly as well as toughen it. Your block should be able to withstand bullets.
Lol, could not have said it better myself. there is no mystery behind Pykrete. It was invented by English inventor Geoffrey Pyke, and is nothing more mysterious then sawdust and water.
The main war use for pykrete was Project Habbakuk, a 2 Million ton Pykrete Carrier. Ive actually just started working on a 3D model of the ship....should have a video of it and several other large warships that were never built in the next few months
I think the 'mysterious substance' quote was just a phrase used to make the description of testing it seem more exciting. No need to call someone stupid. Especially when they are not.
some people say it has the strength of concrete... I'm pretty sure it's strength is undisputed. And I'm pretty sure it can float. Known to be flame resistant. It's ice. When isn't it?
if i had a dollar for every pixel this video had id have 50 cents

why hit sometihng that diverts impact energy like a horse hoof on something that also diverts impact energy, the ground.
Smack that shit on an anvil!
Or
Go to a construction site and toss the block under the foundation pounder.

and by experimentation, we mean kick it around on the ground, throw it, drop it, and smack it with a wrench lol That was funny

Pycrete could be used for armor...
Too bad it tends to melt.

its not that mysterious.. its ice and woodpulp/sawdust

I wish this had a practical use for pykrete... pykrete owns :) Too bad we didn't make ships out of it.

Because more experimentation is needed for something the military put money for research into. Great way to ruin an axeblade, though.

And yes, it is only natural it can float, has the strength of concrete, and is flame resistant.
