WHy ar so many people interested in this? Well many incarnated souls in the west etc..who once have lived there in a previous live have find their roots back again and come home when they hear this..very deep ******
I wonder why people like you with no life go around watching videos that they don't like and then take more time out of their busy lives to comment negatively on them. I realize that musical taste is opinion so I don't care if you like this, but the vast majority of people who watch this don't want to see you commenting negatively on what they consider to be good music.
It took me time to acquire taste for traditional style, but now i wont have it any other way! Trad is simply in a different league to the contemporary style that most people play across the globe.
Djalu playing has definitely an assertiveness compared to Larry and Larry is more assertive than the younger guys (Elijah, Adam Marrilaga etc) Maybe it has something to do with age? I am not sure.
It is very hard. That is why most people play contemporary. traditional is hard because the sounds are hard but even more important is maintaing the rhythm! And there is the issue of copyright i.e dont try to play EXACTLY what the natives do as some of them dont like that.
This is so wonderful. My first influence in playing was with the Yolngu style especially the music of Yothu Yindi. Its rythms and style had a stong effect on my playing and it is great to hear this. Thank you !
Ive had the pleasure of playing a Djalu, one of my fav didges. Hopefully one day I can own one for myself. Superb!

noticed he plays a little off centre - does that help make those beutiful sounds? his sound is awesome, seems really layered or something
MediumPoo 2 years ago
It is partly technique and partly the instrument itself.
ididjaustralia 2 years ago
Yeah there are techniques for center blown sounds and side blown sounds. And like the host said, a lot of it has to do with the instrument itself.

A good point.
The tribal people are simple. And yet people of big cities across the world have a never ending fascination for them.

"Simple"? I guess your anthropology knowledge isn't very good.

i know you commented like, 5 months ago, but i currently play more contemporary and was wondering how you switched styles and if you have any tips.
rabbitspliff 2 years ago
You can read in Ididj forums on trad playing tips.
Traditional sound is usually much thicker and you make a concious effort with tongue to help get that richer and more fuller sound.
