lolz... I am not claiming Pavarotti's voice was better then Di Stefano or Caruso, just that his overall performance is more enjoyable for me personally. When he smiles I smile, when he cries, I cry.... and when upon occasion he genuine enjoyment of his craft shines through, it gives me goosebumps.
I will not say he was the best. I still think Caruso better. However.... there is a certain richness in his intonation that seems to have been lost in subsequent generations. As for sheer emotional -from the heart - appeal it has to be Pavarotti's interpretation of Pagliacci. I still cry when I watch video archives of the Maestro performing that opera.
mestrong I remind you that DiStefano was Luciano's fav. tenor. They were both among the greatest 5 or 10 top tenors of all time. Pava. doing Vesti La Giubba also makes me cry, but so does DiStefano. And guess what, try Alagna on that aria. To me it is breathtaking. Quite excellent

Sul confronto Di Stefano-Pavarotti, devo dire che, pur restando ai massimi livelli, in campo operistico preferisco nel complesso il secondo, benchè Di Stefano possieda un timbro ed un fraseggio inimitabili (in brani non lirici, come questo, Pippo è comunque notevolmente superiore).
In ogni caso, sempre in campo operistico, ritengo Alfredo Kraus di gran lunga superiore ad entrambi

let me tell you pippo, once said mario does not know what he has. correlli said the best voice he has ever heard, borjling said he made me cry. i like pippo he is my second choice. but noone beats lanza..

I would say Di Stefano sang this song the BEST...brings me to tears but I also loved Jose Carreras's 1978 version of this song on his Memory cd which incidentally is out of print...:( Both sang this song meltingly beautifully.

Addiction is terrible--had to listen before work--one more time. Such a wonderful way to start the day. Sometimes I can hardly tell the difference between DS and the JC of the 60's and 70's. What magnificent voices!

Ragazzi, penso che questa sia una delle mie versioni preferite...Avete sentito l' interpretazione di Di Stefano della canzone "Firenze sogna"? Secondo me è una delle rare perle di bellezza, mi fa impazzire...come la dolcezza di alcuni passaggi di questa indimenticabile "parlami d'amore Mariù". Concordo con naoto84,ma anche a 2:51 e sul finale ci sono pianissimi da brivido!!!Grande Pippo
