As much as I will always despise Leno for the Tonight Show fiasco, I will admit that he seems like a really nice guy who has a true passion for cars. I may not think he's funny as a comedian, but I do think he would be great as a car show host. If things don't work out with one of the Top Gear US hosts, I hope he's the first one they call.

It's main fault is a design that every amateur car like Ascari and Noble looks like this. The design is so lacking in definition and forceful proportions. Second the intake details and rear look very squiggly and 90s kit-car in feel.
No doubt it's an awesome car but... but it doesn't excite me. The F1, my god now THAT was a supercar and still is after all these years.
The end line is...This car was designed to revive McLaren. They know very well that they are not in a position to make a crazy supercar that many will worship but few will buy. Also in this state of economy and 'Green' that cleverly packaged engine is a big plus over the long run
Chris has a cast iron stomach - Leno was all over the place, shocking driving! I hope McLaren produce a less 'neutral' supercar soon, this one's got no soul & is designed to flatter less demanding drivers.

I think the MP4-12C is a great machine, but it was that fast around TG test track because it was develop there and the driver was not the "normal" Stig, probably one of the Mclaren`s test drivers was behind the wheel.
Well, it wasn't quite the fastest car around the Top Gear track. Second-fastest is pretty good, too. Especially when first place is just a beast of a track car, the Ariel Atom V8.

I'm fairly sure when that guy was interviewed, the Atom V8 hadn't been around that track.
Nevertheless, while the MP4-12C isn't technically the fastest road car around the TG track, lots of respect to it for beating the second-fastest car so handily. Blisteringly fast.

@PapaHett - it's a heap of scaffolding to which are attached 4 wheels, steering and a nuclear bomb of a powertrain. It's road legal, but only just. You couldn't use it daily - you'd struggle to use it weekly. At least a McLaren MP4-sillyname (the second fastest) has comfortable seats, good refinement, an enclosed cabin, some proper boot space, a decent range and an excellent ride, so you could drive it from Woking to the Nürburgring, set a blistering lap time there then cruise back again.
@newengland72 - I wasn't talking about reliability and propensity to go bang, I was referring to the Atom V8's explosive performance. Also, it's neither a Honda nor a Toyota motor, but a custom 3.0 flat plane crank V8 based on a pair of bored-and-stroked Suzuki Hayabusa motors.
Its great to see Leno's passion about cars. McLaren is probably the closest street legal car to a race car that's available.
