Should have done it on a nearly empty tank - wouldn't have had so much weight to worry about! I love this bike, got one too. Seems a bit top-heavy at first, particularly with a full tank. You get used to it, though. Sounds/feels like a R rather than a F when you get the revs going.
Mine gsx650f go 240 kmh with LEO VINCE...
