completely legal hit in my eyes. i understand there is a concussion in the game, but that means better EQUIPMENT is necessary. that is the nature of the game, if you don't like it, don't play. do not water down the physicality of the game due to the lack of safety provided by the equipment.
idk what people dont understand about a helmet, it will come off, whether its from impact of the body or if it is a h-t-h shot. that wasnt any h-t-h shot, he clearly hit him with his shoulder into that guys chest. thats impact that forced the helmet off. so many unneccesary flags.
This was a legal hit. I saw this as it happen on tv and agree it was a vicious but legal block. Just because the helmet got knocked off does not make it illegal. @madhazzer everytime someone gets smoked on the field, they want to throwl a fucking flag!!! just like the fsu player who fumbled on the 1 cause he was sandwhiched by two ou defenders. they threw a bullshit flag for that too!
Just because his helmet came off doesn't mean it was a helmet to helmet hit. I've seen more helmets come off from the player's head basically being pulled out because they got hit in the chest than the helmets coming off from being hit in the head. And did anybody watch the OU vs. FSU game? The guy getting sandwiched was definitely helmet to helmet. Way different than this.

@heeb31 Oklahoma sure did a fine job last time they played USC! they only lost by 36! Oh and football is only one sport... UT and Chokelahoma would get eaten alive by the Pac-12 in any other sport as well.
@linam73 Quit making yourself look ignorant, Texas has one of the best baseball teams year in and year out, Texas is typically solid in basketball as well. OSU would bring the best wrestling team to the Pac-12 as well as a top golf program. OU brings a great football team as well as a good wrestling program as well. Besides how'd USC fare against Texas in 05.
I'm baffled the dismantling of the Big 12. It doesn't make sense to me for the good of the sport. Maybe some teams need to be changed out like Kansas, and Colorado, but super conferences are bad for the game as a whole....UNLESS there is a playoff system which we've been told is never gonna happen.
That it's crumbling is terrible for the game. It's not like the dismantling of the SWC, and honestly, OU, OSU, Texas, Nebraska and to a lesser extent, Mizzou belong in the SEC if anywher
That message went screwy on posting. It meant to say that on defense you WANT to hurt your opponent. Not injure them, but you sure as hell want to cause them pain.
You want them cautious about coming across the middle, going head to head with a linebacker or free safety. You accomplish that by laying the kind of clean and yes, opportunistic shot Goodwin delivered.
Again, it's football not badminton, and violence is part of the game. I am glad Abbott wasn't hurt seriously, and yes I
Seriously? Are you that ignorant? Everyone on here that thinks this was either
1. A cheap shot
Or Even
2. The right call by the officials
Has never played the game. I know why it was called, but the fact remains that though at full speed it looks like helmet to helmet, it wasn't. The call was wrong, with the right motive. you want to hurt players. Now, don't misinterpret....hurt, NOT injur. You never want to injur another player, at least most athletes don't, and I can assure you
@OrangeBlood40 I agree.. definitely not helmet to helmet.. he got down and lead with his shoulder.. just cause the helmet makes contact afterwards makes no difference.. the officials are pretty much forced to penalize hits like these though or the uproar would be ridiculous.. games different no a days
All this whining about it being blindsided is pure nonsense...when the defense does this to an offensive player, it's always worse because on defense you want t
The ONLY difference is that a linebacker, safety, or corner isn't going to just position himself well for the hit, they are going to run full speed, which for Goodwin means 4.25 and he clearly did not accelerate except at impact, and that's only to be sure he didn't take the brunt of the impact.
Goodwin used his shoulder pads to make contact otherwise they would have both likely been on the ground from head injuries.
You know NOTHING about football if you think that was a cheap shot. You don't have to like it, but there is no rule written or unwritten that you have to announce to a player you are about to lay them out.
Have you ever played the game?
Do you know what happens to receivers coming across the middle like Davis was when the receiver thinks he's found a seam, but really has just put himself in the crosshairs of a linebacker or corner?
All of that said.....I hope for a speedy recovery and well wishes for Abott, whom will now most certainly keep his head on a swivel when pursuing in that situation.
Helmet to helmet would have caused him to be either 1. Dead or paralyzed, 2. Be unconscious, 3. Have a severe life threatening medivac helicopter removal, not walking off with a mild concussion which is trainer code for " we need to be cautious to be sure he's not injured again in the same game". Abbott will be back on the field the next time UCLA plays.
Kudos for a sportsmanlike and awesome block by Goodwin. When I saw Abbot on his knees, I knew he'd be fine.
You NEVER want to see a player injured and the fact that he doesn't have a severe concussion is evidence of the clean nature of the hit. A minor concussion is going to occur when a body is moving and suddenly reverses a direction causing the brain to collide with the inside of the skull as the brain continues forward.
well have broken, not cracked, multiple ribs and he would of had to completely leave his feet which IS illegal and would have resulted in a far more severe impact.
To suggest that a division one football player should just "wall off" Abott in that situation, is foolish and insulting to football and would have put Goodwin himself at risk of injury of being plowed over by a in full pursuit Abbott.
I had a house full of people watching the game and the whole house erupted on that hit!!!!!!!!! You always have to know a crack back is coming..... It was clean and a pity call. He wrecked that dude.
Regardless, Goodwin is not the type of athlete looking to end someone's career. With his speed and size, an athlete of his caliber looking for a maiming shot could have killed Abbot quite literally, but he didn't show his 4.25 speed nor his strength. He took what 8 steps max..... and took the proper angle in a stellar hit, that is part of football.
If Goodwin gets below his shoulder pads and hits Abbot in the rib cage, who was not wearing rib protection, he might ver
is a good angle, but if you don't look where you are running and you run into an opposing player creating half the force of impact because he didn't have decent peripheral vision not turn to his head where David would be, this work of art wouldn't have happened.
It's football, not ballroom dancing. Had the top of Goodwin's helmet made side helmet contact, face mask contact, under chin contact, or even face mask to face mask I could see it being called. It was called because he lost his helm
It was clean....he lowered his shoulder, got his head across his body, and Abbotts face mask made contact with the BACK of Goodwins helmet. Goodwin is taller, and he still gets below Abbots head. The hit is going to always be brutal in a crack back block, and you can't block below the waist because it destroys knees, so you have two athletes in motion, with Goodwin having to get his head across his body so it's not a clip and as Abbot breaks down to pursue, his body lowers as well and he takes
So apparently NCAA has decided to switch over to two hand touch football. Fucking weak you can't even make a solid killshot without getting penalized.
This was a sympathy call. It's Abotts fault. He should have known a receiver would be peeling back on a cross route.
If Davis had been the one blindsided coming across the middle, and the back of Abott's helmet clipped his face mask and made him lose his hat, I still would have thought it clean. This wasn't helmet to helmet and the commentator that said "that's the definition of helmet to helmet because he lost his helmet" is an utter moron.
Football is just not football any more! You get hit hard and they automatically assume it's a personnal foul. Used to be a mans game, don't have to be tough any more, just fast.
@dpowderhound Dear sir or madam, I've been playing football all my life! Back when kids played outside in the backyard, we got hit with no pads at all and i'm not talking pushed down! I played through high school and at the college level(D2). I'm now playing at the dumbest level there is and that's semi-pro(by no means is this a stab at semi-pro), but i say this because i love the game of football and i know at any giving time it ends. If you can't take the heat, get out the kitchen!
You're right. That's a terrible title for this video. It was only meant to make a 1 UT fan mad ( a friend of mine that I sent it to right after uploading). Being a Sooner fan, I take every chance I can get to mess with my Longhorn fan friends.
But the longer I leave it like that, the worse it makes me look. I should have changed it yesterday.
@TheBrianWalrath as a Longhorn fan, title doesnt bother me. ANd congrats, you guys look like you got a damn fine team. Hey what do you think about that pac 12 move?
@autry33 From a football standpoint, I don't like it. I'm hoping the Big 12 survives for many reasons. Pac 12 is a good conference, but I don't think OU fits there. How bout You? But as long as we keep the OU-UT and OU-OSU rivalry, it might not be too bad. What about You? How do you feel about UT playing in the Pac 12?
@TheBrianWalrath IM like you. I think it will turn out fine but I wish they would just expand on the big12 and make it stronger. My main concern was the OU TX rivalry. It makes collage football great and I do believe its the best rivalry at this point. But alas it looks like the pac 16 is almost certain. We shall see.
That was no helmet-to-helmet hit. UCLA dude needs to buckle his chinstrap. That was a legit hit. Refs blew that one. Maybe UCLA need to switch to flag football or start wearing skirts. Pussies....
we didnt play them the past decade..last was 1998, remember stupid?
and thats cute, flaunting your occasional win over decades spread from each other. Everyone knows the UCLA charmin bears arent shit compared to Texas Longhorn football.
@padamstx74 The reason why they called that is Goodwin lowered his head. If he kept his head up there would of been no flag. I hate the penalty, I blow people away but that is the only reason it was called.
Pause this clip at 1:25, this is not helmet to helmet! Goodwin clearly hits him in the chest and the defender flenches at the last second causing his head to drop and the impact causes his helmet to come off! Great hit and HOOK"EM!
well noone can say that marquise is just a track guy now! he is a true football player! great block! he hit him with his shoulder not his helmet!! this should not have been a penalty! great block marquise!!
You must be a UCLA fan with this title and description. Clearly you can see he puts his helmet in the guys chest. Was it a violent hit? Yes, but that's football. Change your videos title. Like if you agree
@ChevyDerald LOL listen to the commentator: "im pretty sure thats the definition of helmet to helmet". you know a lot about football huh? you must be a texas fan
@goofy775 It was something like helmet to helmet in the description, forgot exactly what the title said. Thanks for changing it @TheBrianWalrath. Marquise Goodwin is a good clean player.
@ChevyDerald I'll just comment to represent that I like your comment about 100 times. It was a weak call. It's all good though because Texas punched one right in a play or two later. One way or another, they would be getting that TD.
you guys are retarded he was expecting the ball, then he turned into a blocker and took two steps before he hit the guy with his arms first...criticize i player for protecting his team mate with a small block? pathetic...Goodwin is long jumping in the Olympics so he has got everything going for him...i played football with him in high school and i personally know he don't hit that hard and that guy just needs to buckle his straps so his helmet don't come flying off...
He led with his shoulder on that one, it was close though, probably not deliberate. If you wanna see dirty, go watch that hit 2 OU defenders layed on Kenny Shaw tonight. I thought he was gonna be paralyzed. They BOTH led with their helmet and hit his head.
lol at cheap shot. They just gave him the penalty because they felt sorry for the kid. That hit is what football is about, CRUSHING the other team, hopefully sending the opposition to the ER... just as long as its no behind the play/cheap.
I love big hits, but KARMA will come back for Goodwin. Cheap shot all day. A shoulder to the chest would have still leveled him. He chose to lead with the top of his head and tried to kill him.
What a cheep shot. If Goodwin had and balls he would have put his own facemask in there instead of the top of his head. Facemask to facemask is a mans hit. Using the top of the helmet is for a balless chicken!
That hit was as clean as it gets. Goodwin hit him in the chest and led with his forearm and shoulder. Poor call by the official, and he should know better.
Button up your chin strap, put your head on a swivel, or get the hell out of the game.
fucking horseshit. get that thug pussy out of here. So what you knocked out a blinded walk on from long beach. Texas was a fucking joke out there today. coming from a 12 year old alum from texas. and what the fuck were we doing going for it on 4th down with 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter up 30, to a team that is clearly struggling. lost a lot of respect for this team today and gained a shitload for those LA boys
@VicRattleheadUSA What is your problem? That is a 100% clean hit. He lead with his shoulder. We don't want fans like you, glad you lost your respect. Texas played a damn good game today. They went for it on 4th to keep the clock running instead of running it up with a field goal. Not their fault UCLA could not stop them from scoring again. All they did was run it right up the middle.
Get the sand out of your vagina. Nobody kicks field goals in that situation, they were running out the clock. It's not like Texas was throwing into the end zone as time ran out. They were running the ball on every play with their 4th string running back and 2nd team OL. If UCLA had any pride, they would have stepped up and made a stop.
yeeeeeaaaahhh buddy thats how texas football is aint no pussy west coast football

Has never played the game. I know why it was called, but the fact remains that though at full speed it looks like helmet to helmet, it wasn't. The call was wrong, with the right motive. you want to hurt players. Now, don't misinterpret....hurt, NOT injur. You never want to injur another player, at least most athletes don't, and I can assure you
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
@OrangeBlood40 I agree.. definitely not helmet to helmet.. he got down and lead with his shoulder.. just cause the helmet makes contact afterwards makes no difference.. the officials are pretty much forced to penalize hits like these though or the uproar would be ridiculous.. games different no a days

All this whining about it being blindsided is pure nonsense...when the defense does this to an offensive player, it's always worse because on defense you want t
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
That's some good *hit right there.
atxav8r 5 months ago
@Goheelz
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
@Goheelz
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
@depowder
1. He does not have a severe concussion.
2. It's football, with heads colliding and better head protection technology than ever in the history of the sport
3. As a defensive back, you can't blindly pursue a cross route once they clear, or it's going to happen EVERY single time.
4. How often does a receiver get blasted coming across the middle like that?
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
All of that said.....I hope for a speedy recovery and well wishes for Abott, whom will now most certainly keep his head on a swivel when pursuing in that situation.
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
Helmet to helmet would have caused him to be either 1. Dead or paralyzed, 2. Be unconscious, 3. Have a severe life threatening medivac helicopter removal, not walking off with a mild concussion which is trainer code for " we need to be cautious to be sure he's not injured again in the same game". Abbott will be back on the field the next time UCLA plays.
Kudos for a sportsmanlike and awesome block by Goodwin. When I saw Abbot on his knees, I knew he'd be fine.
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
You NEVER want to see a player injured and the fact that he doesn't have a severe concussion is evidence of the clean nature of the hit. A minor concussion is going to occur when a body is moving and suddenly reverses a direction causing the brain to collide with the inside of the skull as the brain continues forward.
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
well have broken, not cracked, multiple ribs and he would of had to completely leave his feet which IS illegal and would have resulted in a far more severe impact.
To suggest that a division one football player should just "wall off" Abott in that situation, is foolish and insulting to football and would have put Goodwin himself at risk of injury of being plowed over by a in full pursuit Abbott.
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
I had a house full of people watching the game and the whole house erupted on that hit!!!!!!!!! You always have to know a crack back is coming..... It was clean and a pity call. He wrecked that dude.
markeopry 5 months ago
and that's just wrong.
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
is a good angle, but if you don't look where you are running and you run into an opposing player creating half the force of impact because he didn't have decent peripheral vision not turn to his head where David would be, this work of art wouldn't have happened.
It's football, not ballroom dancing. Had the top of Goodwin's helmet made side helmet contact, face mask contact, under chin contact, or even face mask to face mask I could see it being called. It was called because he lost his helm
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
It was clean....he lowered his shoulder, got his head across his body, and Abbotts face mask made contact with the BACK of Goodwins helmet. Goodwin is taller, and he still gets below Abbots head. The hit is going to always be brutal in a crack back block, and you can't block below the waist because it destroys knees, so you have two athletes in motion, with Goodwin having to get his head across his body so it's not a clip and as Abbot breaks down to pursue, his body lowers as well and he takes

UtLonghorn512 5 months ago
So apparently NCAA has decided to switch over to two hand touch football. Fucking weak you can't even make a solid killshot without getting penalized.
webempireproductions 5 months ago
@sportzkid
OrangeBlood40 5 months ago
Football is just not football any more! You get hit hard and they automatically assume it's a personnal foul. Used to be a mans game, don't have to be tough any more, just fast.
trejnni 5 months ago
@trejnni try enjoying the rest of your life after a few massive concussions- there's a reason for it. did you even watch this video?
dpowderhound 5 months ago
@dpowderhound Dear sir or madam, I've been playing football all my life! Back when kids played outside in the backyard, we got hit with no pads at all and i'm not talking pushed down! I played through high school and at the college level(D2). I'm now playing at the dumbest level there is and that's semi-pro(by no means is this a stab at semi-pro), but i say this because i love the game of football and i know at any giving time it ends. If you can't take the heat, get out the kitchen!
trejnni 5 months ago
You're right. That's a terrible title for this video. It was only meant to make a 1 UT fan mad ( a friend of mine that I sent it to right after uploading). Being a Sooner fan, I take every chance I can get to mess with my Longhorn fan friends.
But the longer I leave it like that, the worse it makes me look. I should have changed it yesterday.
TheBrianWalrath 5 months ago
@TheBrianWalrath as a Longhorn fan, title doesnt bother me. ANd congrats, you guys look like you got a damn fine team. Hey what do you think about that pac 12 move?
autry33 5 months ago
@autry33 From a football standpoint, I don't like it. I'm hoping the Big 12 survives for many reasons. Pac 12 is a good conference, but I don't think OU fits there. How bout You? But as long as we keep the OU-UT and OU-OSU rivalry, it might not be too bad. What about You? How do you feel about UT playing in the Pac 12?
TheBrianWalrath 5 months ago
@TheBrianWalrath IM like you. I think it will turn out fine but I wish they would just expand on the big12 and make it stronger. My main concern was the OU TX rivalry. It makes collage football great and I do believe its the best rivalry at this point. But alas it looks like the pac 16 is almost certain. We shall see.

and thats cute, flaunting your occasional win over decades spread from each other. Everyone knows the UCLA charmin bears arent shit compared to Texas Longhorn football.
madhazzer 5 months ago
@madhazzer arent shit? are you talking about the team that has 106 national championships more than any team in the country?
VicRattleheadUSA 5 months ago
@padamstx74 The reason why they called that is Goodwin lowered his head. If he kept his head up there would of been no flag. I hate the penalty, I blow people away but that is the only reason it was called.
bodomboy666 5 months ago
Pause this clip at 1:25, this is not helmet to helmet! Goodwin clearly hits him in the chest and the defender flenches at the last second causing his head to drop and the impact causes his helmet to come off! Great hit and HOOK"EM!

ChevyDerald 5 months ago

What a cheep shot. If Goodwin had and balls he would have put his own facemask in there instead of the top of his head. Facemask to facemask is a mans hit. Using the top of the helmet is for a balless chicken!

And all football players know Goddamn well that they're gonna get hit hard by someone and should be man enough to take it.

fucking horseshit. get that thug pussy out of here.
VicRattleheadUSA 5 months ago
@VicRattleheadUSA What is your problem? That is a 100% clean hit. He lead with his shoulder. We don't want fans like you, glad you lost your respect. Texas played a damn good game today. They went for it on 4th to keep the clock running instead of running it up with a field goal. Not their fault UCLA could not stop them from scoring again. All they did was run it right up the middle.
throbbertable 5 months ago
@VicRattleheadUSA
