All you German romantics need to calm down. The Wehrmacht is so overrated. It was not the modern fighting force depicted in propaganda. 70% of the German army was not even motorized or mechanized. Infantry was on foot for the most part. And artillery was still horse drawn. The Germans also had shitty logistics and war production was totally inefficient for most of the war..it only picked up in 1944 and by that time it was too late to do anything.

And yet it single-handedly won the fight against France, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Belgium, Britain and Holland - amongst others - in 1939 and 1940. I'm not saying you're wrong, but it just seems odd for an "overrated" army with "shitty logistics" to defeat half of Europe, including two other major powers(France and Britain).

Germany was a paper tiger. Excellent troops, commanders and training. Lack of equipment (fewer airplanes and tanks than UK, USA or Russia) shitty logistics and a small wartime production capability. Germany wasn't prepared for an extended war. They did excellently in small engagements (early campaigns). But look what happened when they got to Russia. They couldn't even compete with Soviet manpower, vast terrain to occupy or even match Russian production figures.

Germany wasn't ready for a prolonged war. Initially Hitler was planning to go to war in 1942. But because of France and UK starting to mobilize and build up their own armies in early 1939 (seeing Hitler as a possible threat) Hitler decided to start the war earlier while Germany still had an advantage. And thus Germany went to war with fewer tanks, planes, artillery pieces and U-boats than was initially planned for 1942.

Panther IV? I think you got the Panther, which is Pz V, mixed up with the Pz IV line of tanks.

Still, remember that the Panther was developed based on the sloped hull of the T-34. And towards the end of the war in 1945, most German tanks were outclassed by the IS tanks, which could certainly withstand a shot to the front from a Panther.
