Hey Tex! How's it going? I met you in 1992 and came to live there in 1996 at View Point for 9 months!!! How is Poppy? and Tracey? Is this your video? Cool. Love the music!
And BTW all, reggae is totally Thai, just like rap and hip hop!
Please take care when you are on the road or motorcy cle etc..Many tourists leaving Thailand with semi/or fully paralyse /broken arms/legs/got rob-shot in Cambodia/stolen kidney in China while cycling/died after a trip in India
Yea, this band is good. When I was last there, there were people climbing at night. Has anyone been hurt climbing this rock at night there? Cause it look really cool.
has anybody been to to thailand climbing in the wet season? would you reccomend a trip at that time? or just go in the dry season, any help would be great cheers
I suppose it depends on the year, but the year I was there it was pretty good during the rainy season. It rained everyday at about 4 pm, so we had to rap down and clean up our gear at 3...spent the evening watching thunder and lightning out on the ocean while sippin beer and enjoying a little herb.
A safety related question - are the safeties maintained properly their? Because I've heard that in Thailand there are many safeties that are loose or rusty due to the salty air. Just wondering cause I am thinking to come there fro climbing....
i'm going to railay beach this summer to climb, it'd be my first time climbing properly outdoors. But i'm not entirely sure on what I'd need. There are top ropes and lead climbs right? I'd bring my shoes, harness, chalk and rope(or can you rent long ropes there)?
Do I need some sort of license or proof to show I know how to climb or will they just let me do it when we pay there? And that brings another question, do i have to book it all in advance, or can i just turn up there and pay? thanks
I have been there, 2 years ago now. Whent there on a whim with a friend and showed up without our gear. We could rent everything there at resonable prices, if you bring your own stuff it would be nice but expect to bring back a lot of sand as all the route you saw in the video start on the beach. Top rop and lead are available, it's all good fun (guides go up bare foot) in a beautifull place. Enjoy!
cool, cheers. And one final question actually: are the routes and areas all quite difficult to get to? Like, in Portland, there's a lot of steep, thin rough paths that can be deadly if you slip. Or are there a lot of routes just on the beach?
The stuff in the vid is right on the beach, (5 minute from your room) so you don't have to pack but you have to ask when the tide comes in (it's a bit wonky) or your gonna start in knee high water. It's all easy and moderate and safe. Diamond cave looks nice and a bit harder. You can get a boat to bring you to some nice "deep water soloing" routes that seem really fun and dangerous =)

yes you can climb in the wet season, especially round tonsai because there are a lot of covered climbs that are protected even when raining.......
tazjamestaz 2 years ago
ive just left. it seems to rain like clock work every afternoon so you can still climb in the morning no problem, also its cheaper this time of year
