  • damn must stupid fucks argue on all the best rap music videos? quit your bitchen and listen.

  • bladerunner<3

  • aesop says First day of class. a reflection on yesterdays common scietal demeanor and how it has led to the now. an evolutionary critique. i own the album and in the insides he sums up every angle combined in an attempt to touch upon all facets contained within this project.

  • clocked in at '76 and havent clocked out ever since.. thats RAP. rap isn't an art form, it's a tool to make money for record companies. it's like a crop.. a dollar a rhyme, but the artists barely make a dime. if you guys really wanna understand the meaning of this song, listen to the song "swindlers lust" by public enemy, it's the same concept, dumbed down just for you.

  • @AssaultKalashnikov hey you dont even understand this. You dont know aesop rock man! DAMN! im sick of you, I gotta go! I gotta run! THESE GUYS ARE KILLING HIPHOP, I must not sleep must warn others!! Skull and bones, free masons, getting involved!!

  • it's about plagarists and record labels.. the analogy is crops being depleted by parasites, dust storms and late frosts.. those who did the harvesting did not profit from the cream of their crop. the analogy to agriculture is key, all the comments i hear trying to decryptify the message have completely failed to adress this obvious analogy, why?

  • Wanting the glory of our advance fire ants to water beetles

Free masons adjacent to pacing on pins and needles

Pupil turned pedagogue, benediction to my dream

VERSE TWO!! I FEEL SHIVERS IN MY SPINE

  • THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG

And it is the greatest song ever made.

  • The harvest appeared less plentiful than last season....shit,how'd you know.

  • @compendiumofthought actually last season was quite shitty as well.. not due to sloppy seed handling, but the winds caused all the cherries to bang against each other and half the crop was bruised before it even left the tree, and this season because of late frost which cut the berry season short by at least one third

  • i remember the first time i heard this song. It came on random and kept me up all night thinking. Epic Goosebumps Every Time I Hear It.

  • Heads up gass will hit at least $5.50

by mid summer of 2012.Maybe $6.00

    Food Cloths Medicen!

    For real.

Build a cheep stem powered somthing or other.,

or fill a few 50 gallon Drums while you can, fuel stabalizer is cheep gasoline wont be.

  • @FireDropTechnologies Kill yourself, please.

  • @RobKarmic lol

  • @FireDropTechnologies you're terrified lol. get over it. adapt to circumstance or play your final hand

  • @AssaultKalashnikov

    Terified of what Shit breath?

    I feel quite soundly ,

That Some silly little key board jock dosn't hold a candle

To Spec ops forces training, and 10+ years of Milita service.

What you gonna do? hack me to death? Funny. Best pull up your big kid Panty's

And knuckle up if you Ever realy plan to thretten me. Cause unless you sport UFC or navy seals training? I would probably brake you bare handed.

  • @FireDropTechnologies you just claimed to be a navy seal and proved that you've never even been in the military in the same inept paragraph. keep internet thuggin on your parents computer little guy. what i was referring to was your fear of some sorta economical collapse, quit being a pussy you've had it good your whole life, think about what your grand parents, or great grand parents in your case, because you're 9 years old, had to go through.

  • @AssaultKalashnikov

    Ok you ncock sucking Nar-tard!

Had enough, Said MILITIA NOT SEALS, TRAINED WITH SEALS,

    BEEN MILLITA SINCE AGE 16,

I don't see why you nerd type pussys always choose to talk shit on line?

But if you ever feel like sparring?

  • @AssaultKalashnikov I'll gladly show you I'm Trained,

your wroung, and to stupid to read the whole post before you run off at the mouth with a bunch of drivel. Don't like it? I've got a Fat Cock Additude to Choke the breath out your bitch made Noob pone ass, with Any Day you feel like crawling out of your modem in to the real world!

  • @FireDropTechnologies oh you're potty trained? sweet deal, maybe one day you'll learn a little bit of grammar. I have quite a few family members in the navy and they would laugh at this sight, a kid who can't even formulate a proper sentence with correct use of compound words claiming that he is navy seal trained.. do you realize that you need to be able to type very fast with perfect grammar to even be a grunt in the navy? they don't accept retards, you wouldn't qualifty.

  • @FireDropTechnologies half of the navy's job is paperwork.. how the fuck do you do paperwork when you can't even read, write, or spell with any accuracy whatsoever? that's like a paraplegic claiming that he won an ass kicking competition. do you realize now that your bluff has been called out? so, now we know you're not a navy seal. are you ashamed that you lied about such a thing? if you pulled that shit with me in real life i'd smack the living shit out of you.

  • @AssaultKalashnikov And then the bigger fish would come down and smack the shit out of you. Do you realize how pointless and meaningless typing on a computer is? You should be outside, you should be fapping to porn, you should be doing anything but what you are doing right now. I you pulled that shit on me in real life, I would phase through you and then you would find your self in an alternate dimension that looks something like Egypt in year one.

  • @ANONPWNING there was no egypt in year one, only aegyptus. i don't only type on computers for a living like you do, so my life has meaning. i prefer to have a life and a brain, which is why i'm not inept, like you, to human history.. pretty sure i learned obvious egyptian history in second grade.. i guess you were too busy eating glue to catch that lesson.

  • MUST NOT SLEEP, MUST WARN OTHERS

  • "My daytime's on some, yes sir, okay sir, right away sir Sir do you mind if I breathe sir oh you do? Well excuse me sir FUCK you"

    Holy shit

  • or he really is telling us its time to warn others and the so called meaningless words are so great in meaning us humans devalue them because we are asleep

  • I think he is talking about either hip hop being a 9-5 job, or hip hop AND a 9-5 job. I would break down the lyrics piece by piece but I am too lazy to do it right now.

  • @dingleflorden Lawl, ya, right.

  • @SnowKid32

You doubt my course in Aesop Rock language?

  • @dingleflorden Yep. Please, "break down the lyrics".

  • Ok, this will take multiple posts, I haven't gotten every line, but this is my interpretation of what I can figure.

Now be gracious, these minstools turn a bully's psycho civil

By dissolving the candy coated image down to the pixels

Yelp bringing the self-stop freedom brigade investors

And the studies connecting one hit wonders with dust collectors.

Two lines before the bully's psycho civil, he mentions spotting biters from acres. Bitters, being lyric stealers. This, combined with the lines...

  • @SnowKid32

"Turning a bullies psycho civil" "Dissolving the candy coated image" "Studies connecting one hit wonders with dust collectors" Seems a shot at modern hip hop, or even music. He is probably referring to turning a bullies psycho civil "The state of mind of a otherwise violent person" and dissolving the candy coated image as being how soft and pathetic music is, so soft a violent person could even become civil from it. Then "one hit wonders with dust collectors" Referring to CDs you...

  • @SnowKid32

Would buy from someone who only is popular, and catchy, for a short time. Then, they are forgotten, and their music is just, metaphorically, collecting dust, as it is so much of the past (or just made irrevelant quickly).

"Puts it down, and it's down beneath your sappy sing alongs

So stick it further down, we'll let Dante decide which ring I'm on" Right after the other line I posted, Not sure what he means by puts it down, but him calling this weak music a sappy sing-a-long...

  • @SnowKid32

Reinforces the above lines. It could mean probably, putting the music down (referring to the music as a physical object) and just leaving it somewhere. The "stick it further down and let Dante decide which ring I'm on". This line is weird. I know Dante is a demon from a game, and he is referring to the rings of hell. Maybe he means putting the music down, and it gets forgotten and discarded so badly it has gone to hell as far as we know. The rest of the verse and the chorus...

  • @dingleflorden I dunno if you got any of this from the website RapGenius, but if you did, 90% of those submissions are from a guy named eskimopie (btw, that's me). Anyways, Dante is from Divine Comedy (an epic poem from 1308). Candy coated means it has been modified to appeal without grimy details. Paradise Lost is a literary allusion to an epic poem as well (John Milton).

  • @SnowKid32

Are far beyond me. I have no fucking idea WTF he is talking about.

"Wanting the glory of our advance fire ants to water beetles

Free masons adjacent debasing on pins and needles

Pupil turned pedagogue benedicts into my dream

Beam in a billion bottle rockets off the golden mezzanine" Beginning of second verse, the water beetles line and the "Pupil turned pedagogue" line imply he is teaching or leading something. Perhaps he is referring (if about a 9-5 job) to wanting to be a manager..

  • @SnowKid32

Of the work. What he would mean by fire ants to water beetles is saying he wants to lead his life, as fire ants usually swarm creatures (like water beetles) and he is comparing leading position to leading swarms of ants. Pupil turned pedagogue benedicts into my dream is the same thing. A pedagogue is a strict teacher, or leader, and managers are known assholes, so he dreams about becoming a worker to being a manager (this can apply to hip hop being a 9-5 possibly talking on...

  • @SnowKid32

Very unfair record labels). The bottle rockets and masons lines are beyond my comprehension. "I pluck the pedals off a classic blood rose one at a time

Gripping the stem and right invite the thorns to dig up in my lifeline

A metaphor for nighttime, ante up the slight cost of exhaustion

To salute the moon of our paradise lost and you're a spectator" He could be referring to the thorns digging his lifeline as time wasted years at a shitty job, and the line "metaphor for exaustion,..

  • @SnowKid32

and nighttime and To salute the moon of our paradise lost and you're a spectator, paradise lost, not sure, but the salute the moon seems to be a reference to when you leave a factory, working 12 hours (I know this feeling) and you look up at the sky, after getting out of that shitty place, and sort of have a long feeling of releif, he compares this releif to a salute. The next lines.....

  • @SnowKid32

Stringent, inch by sacred inch shoveling colon in my earthworm soul

Borough up through the dirt with bloody digit lick my knuckles clean

Noting the corporate clusters holding hands round the abode of the dam

And what's your poison? Starlight and amaze her with a nicotine chaser" Elude me for the most part. The only thing I get from Borough up the dirt with bloody digit, lick my knuckles clean, is possibly a reference to a shitty construction job, digging holes for hours, and getting,

  • @SnowKid32

Bloodied up hands. That is all I get out of those lines.

"Now I'm six foot four with a sick flow walk up just to recline

With no free time, the alarm storms at nine

My daytime's on some, yes sir, okay sir, right away sir

Sir do you mind if I breathe sir oh you do? Well excuse me sir fuck you" First line, unknown, 2-4, he is talking about a clock alarm, then he goes into a conversation with a manager/boss, and parodying their asshole behavior by asking if he can breathe. They...

  • @SnowKid32

Actually say they have a problem with it, and he tells the boss "fuck you sir".

I breathe slow, I'm running with these fantastic amalgams

Painting casket bound careers to pierce gunning with classic albums

amalgams, being a mix of things, I can only think he is talking about a mix of styles, because the next line, talking about casket bound careers (dead end careers), and he himself dropping classics while the other artists career is dead. This is seemingly where the...

  • @SnowKid32

Comparing 9-5 job comes full circle, talking about getting into hip hop as being as hard as a 9-5 job by using metaphors talking about the other jobs.

"Security's the javelin, catch it; labor

Clocked in at seven six and haven't clocked out ever since" don't know the security line, but the clocked in at seven six and haven't clocked out ever since seems to imply he never has, and may not ever, stop being an artist.

    Thats all I got.

  • @dingleflorden seven six = 1976 Ace was born in 1976, and hasn't died.

  • @SnowKid32

That makes sense. My dyslexia had me believe this was shorthand for an impossible time seven till six. Nice job brain.

Are you sure he is referring to that Dante? Because the fact he is known for liking nerdy things, and the Dante I refer to is a demon, and he talks about being on rings, seems to tie in. I know candy coated, Paradise Lost, I am aware of it, but not sure how it ties in to the rest of the song.

  • @dingleflorden Well he says "We'll let Dante decide which RING I'm on" and the Rings of Hell are part of the epic poem from the 14th-century.

  • @SnowKid32

I wonder if the game is based off the poem...

But I think the rest of my translation of the song to english was decent.

  • @dingleflorden Decent, I'll def. give you that :] Not mind-blowing, but surely worth reading

And ya, the game is based off it.

  • @SnowKid32

Good, because it hurt my fucking brain and I think I pulled something doing this translation.

Now if you will excuse me, I have a kidney that needs pulled.

  • @dingleflorden Best of luck to ya, mate. :D

  • @dingleflorden the line about Dante refers (I think) to his music being less-appreciated than all of the other "sappy sing alongs" out there. The popularity of the other songs lessens the importance of Aes's songs and when he compares the "one hit wonders" with "dust collectors", it makes his music seem even less important to the person who usually listens to garbage hip-hop. "We'll let Dante decide which ring I'm on" is a satirical stab at how unimportant his music is to those people.

  • @cavemanooga

I get this feeling his music doesn't mean anything sometimes though, like he just writes words, and we are the ones giving them meanings (granted, this, none shall pass and fast cars actually have meanings) but I just wonder.

  • @dingleflorden Aes himself said that there is meaning to all his words and that he would never be able to make rhymes out of nonsensical phrases because he is not a genius. Everything he says has meaning, it just takes a lot of research to figure out what the hell he means :P

  • @cavemanooga

If that is the case, maybe he has individual lines than don't mean anything (BELIEVE ME HE WOULD NOT BE THE FIRST ARTISTS TO DO THIS, sometimes you gotta make up syllables) and maybe that is why some people miss the meanings so much.

My other theory is he probably just writes as his mind goes on thinking about random things. I do this too and make some weird lyrics, it would explain why some lines don't rhyme often, and why he explains some things so bizzare like.

  • Comment removed

  • @cavemanooga In their studies connecting one hit wonders with dust collectors

Puts it down, and it's down beneath your sappy sing alongs

So stick it further down, we'll let Dante decide which ring I'm on "Dante" wrote an epic poem in the dark ages called the Divine Comedy, and the first part is titled Inferno (Hell in Italian). He said there was 9 rings/levels of Hell. Aes is satirically saying he's going to hell, also fitting w/ the line about critics putting his music really far down.

  • 2 people wouldn't know dope if they were pharmacists

  • "fuck you i breath slow!!!!!!!!!!!"

one of my fav aesop songs

    smh "drama like kabuki"

  • told you that white people are the smartest! go kluks!

  • The harvest appeared less plentiful than last season, i imagine sloppy seed handling evoked the stroke of tardy planting. And the crops we had harnessed mid November only brushed the blossom bracket then soon sacrificed lives to icicle jackets when the frost hit. I sunk to find the warmth beneath the mosses, where the planted tunnel passed after the rains had run their courses. but alas, the portraits of the frostbit corpses tortured in the grass offered distort support of one tall glass of naus

  • the beggining samples from Blade Runner

  • Too dope just absolutely holy and meant to praise god amen

  • thanks again, tairy hesticles

  • i'm still trying to pick my jaw up off of the ground, shits too dope

  • dope.

  • It's an awakening song. This one is intended to make you think about what the fuck Aesop's analogizing, and there's about 64 analogies or so in the lyrics. It's a warning... wake up! Think!

  • The one person who disliked this can eat a dick.

  • human beings use 10% of their brain, aesop uses 110%

  • 60 hour weeks, no sleep.

  • I listened to this song for about 6 hours straight today, while I was programming. Each time it felt as if I hadn't heard the song before -- each time unlocking new hidden meaning and forcing me to consider my previous interpretation. After a while, the versions began to blend together, yet maintaining their unique sounds -- much like my code that was nearing completion -- and I began to realize that all I ever wanted was to pick apart the day, and put the pieces back together my way.

  • @aromanstuff Holy shit.

  • @aromanstuff

Did I just get Aes rolled?

  • @dingles4breakfast I believe we both did.

  • @aromanstuff I have to say a sort of "thank you" to your comment here. Aesop Rock does this and has done this for me. It's the same way with any great artist, of whatever caliber. You stated this beautifully!

    <3 <3 <3 Aesop Rock.

  • i wonder how aes pulled the "female 45-54" demo.

  • gotta love tairyhesticles.......props G

  • MUST NOT SLEEP » MUST WARN OTHERS

  • I think that synth at the very beginning is sampled from Blade Runner.

  • @SketchHurricane definitely Vangelis' Blade Runner score.

  • @NECROMYSTIK

Thats whats great about aes is his lyrics are so beautiful but there always open for interpritation. What ive always taken from this song is the struggle of being yourself when theres so many rules your supposed to follow. Its a safe assumption knowing that hes never hidden the fact that he smokes and does other drugs especially when this album was written.

  • the alarm storms at nine

My daytime's on some, yes sir, okay sir, right away sir

Sir do you mind if I breathe sir oh you do? Well excuse me sir fuck you

  • Hey, I have another version of this song in which at the end of it there is a sample, from a movie most likely, and it starts like this; ''You should know that in our schools, attitude and conduct, are...'' and then I can't understand the rest of the sentence. Can anyone help me with it because I REALLY like this song?

  • I have listened to this song so many times, and I still don't understand half of it.

  • @DonbeeFwz mc donalds

  • @DonbeeFwz Your not supposed to understand aesop, aesop already understands you

  • @DonbeeFwz In Soviet Russia, song understands half of you.

  • @DonbeeFwz

yet you can hear every fucking wordddddd! so awesome.

  • @DonbeeFwz Have you even been far as decided to do what more look like?

  • @DonbeeFwz it definately is using an agricultural famine as an analogy for something.. and i think he is analogizing the music industry.. there's definately alot of interperetation that can be made for an amazingly poetic song like this though

  • There is a version with a Movie skit that really makes this song even greater than it is. Its an unreleased rougher version. That said I LOVEEE this song, he killed it and his flow is just so beautiful on this. I remember this is one of the beats that I didnt have to even get used to.

Hey if anyone has the version of Float where Aesop rhymes Live over Nightlight. Classic stuff.

  • KILLER beat

  • This is THE SHIT

  • trust blocks creep where the dust storm hovers

  • must not sleep...

  • .. Must warn others.

  • perhaps one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time

  • @nakgee most likely
