seriously? under this logic, which argues that the institution of MARRIAGE is inextricably linked to RELIGION, should ATHEISTS be legally barred from getting married as well?

marriage is a LEGAL contract whose benefits should be enjoyed by ALL americans, not just the religious majority. it is not unique to any religion. Nobody is forcing christianity to change, nor churches to hold ceremonies for same sex couples. we just want the same rights under a SECULAR government.

I am sick of ignorant people in this country taking the liberal line that the founders wanted "seperation of church and state". The opposite is true and it was in fact the Judeo Christian system that they founded this country upon. I DEFY anyone to find the phrase in ANY of our founding documents. The "policy" was twisted from the establishment clause that prevented congress making law that establishes a state religion like the one they had just esccaped from. These folks need to check facts 1st
