@JDdaDJstressed The traitor? The people were forced to take a drug that takes away all feeling. What is the point of living if you cannot experience emotion? I understand there would be perks at times, but overall, humans are not humans if they do not feel. As for a "society free of injustice", is it justice that the people were brainwashed into thinking Father was still alive? Is it justice that DuPitt was able to experience emotion, yet order the execution of those who experience it? No.
@gthcarolina22 First of all you have to realise the situation of the film...a post apocalyptic society living on the edge of survival. Times are desperate. Keeping the idea that Father is alive keeps the political system stable, and keeps the real leader himself. While it would seem unfair that DuPont was a sense offender, observe how slow witted most of the emotionless beings are, so his emotions are necessary for the creativity and cunning needed to keep the system running.
@JDdaDJstressed Wow, if you truly feel that way, I feel sorry for you. DuPont was in it for the power, just like all other totalitarian leaders. Prozium was a drug of enslavement. I understand it was post apocalyptic. There have been times in the world when mankind was pushed to the brink of survival. Ridding ourselves of emotion and giving up our freedom to experience emotion is not justifiable in any way. Human emotion is what makes us work harder and join together in difficult times.
I love it how the black guy in the end of this is all thinking he's the shit and is like, 'careful with that uniform I'll be wearing it a long time' and in the words of the Friday movie, you just got knocked the fuck out. Lmao. Bales character totally owned him in like 3 seconds lol.
I see alot of talk about how the action is awesome and I agree 100%. But people the message here is the most powerful aspect of this movie... He defeated the physiological warfare of the land he served...
btw for anyone wondering "omg how he not get shoots lulz??" in the movie these "clerics" are trained from a young age in a martial art compiled from hundreds of thousands of statistics from gun fights that allows them to calmly and efficiently calculate the most probable direction of attack from an enemy and they are able to stay out of the way of fire by using this knowledge.
This is a funny movie. For the last minutes this movie was all badass, with christian bale going killtastic on everyone. But the beginning was just cheesy, since apparently the secret police in this dystopia massacre pitiful people with bad artistic tastes like reading Yeats, or staring at the mona lisa all day. And they even put "mother goose" there. Yep, hardcore Christian Bale's stone cold killer heart was moved by the power of mother goose. "Humpity Dumpity, time to save the world."
EQ suffered bad marketing as it would be 'better' then the Matrix, fuck that you cannot even compair these two movies... but sadly the ad failure killed a wonderfull movie with a very deep layer in emotion (especial for an action movie).
sorry to all the guys that are fans of this movie but i agree with itachim0, 1 reasons, the guys run out and then they take a couple of seconds more than that, to set up their stance and place their feet down and then " shoot " when they can easily turn the corner and shoot. but they are to slow.....
because he enters the void, or zone. it is a mindset common to various elite fighters when they fight, where there is no emotion, only action. think of it as the silence before the explosion
Didn't that happen in an Indiana Jones film, where some guy jumps out swinging swords all over the place, showin off, then indy pulls out a pistol and shoots him! funny as!
there was supposedly going to be a long and involved fight with the swordsman, but at the time Harrison Ford was suffering with dysentery and they had to leave the place to get proper medical help, so Spielberg decided it'd be more in character and quicker to just shoot the guy
John Preston - the traitor. A society free of misery, poverty, and injustice, and you sent it down the toilet.

you call 20,000,000 a low budget movie?

Hopefully it still finds it way to the cultscene.

shift546 3 years ago
In 6:21 (the guy on the left that gets the sword through his stomach) the two ends of the "sword" start to bend out of place.
Then in 6:25 as he falls he doesn't have the sword through his stomach anymore just on the top and not through his back.
