Uniformitarianism is discredited by many evidenced in science, including:

1) the salination rate of the oceans

2) the erosion rates of the continents and coasts

3) the rate at which the earth's magnetic field is decaying

I would add that one of the arguments that Gold and Hoyle used against Gamow when they were debating cosmology was that Big Bang was a creationist explanation while Steady State was scientific, because the Big Bang was catastrophism to the nth degree.
